millyk Character Discussions

Jun 23, 2021 5:51 pm
This thread is for discussing millyk's character please do not post anything here that is not related to millyk's character and yes collaborating with millyk is consider fair postings.

Please make your rolls in here and outline what your are doing so that I can give you feedback on the world. Do note though this game borrows heavily from the Forgotten Realms so you can use information from that setting to outline your background.

Further please pay attention to the Character Creation Guidelines and the House Rules (please read) as there are elements in both that can prove vital to character creation. However, if you have any questions just ask and I can help you either find it or I can clarify it. Most of the tweaks do not affect game play over all so there is nothing to have to relearn so-to-speak so please do not think there to much to digest because like the normal guidelines these guidelines are there for you to reference (and myself to reference) at any time needed.

Note : Please do not look at the above Guidelines and think oh this is way to much to digest because a lot of it is not going to directly affect your specific character. Further much of what has been included are the things the players have requested over time (I am running 4 instances of this game). These additional guidelines (tweaks and clarifications) are meant to be pretty much focused on character creation and once you get into play they are rather insignificant to all the normal guidelines that are part of DnD5e as it stands. Lastly if you have any questions feel free to ask as my view is the only bad question is the one you chose not to ask. Also I work with all my players to help them build a character that meld more seamlessly into the setting so you will not need to do this on your own and I encourage you to reach out to me for ideas and feedback for just about any aspect of the game and your character.

shall I make a sorcerer or a rogue or a paladin.... ?
Again create what you like and more so create what you might have always wanted to play (if you have such a liking) I am fairly good at stitching together new classes fairly quickly as well as helping create concepts that fit your imagination.

Ok :-) I will read your posts and I will sent you any questions... how you run 4 instances at once ? Are they all here ?

Ok! I decided!!! A c
Paladin, her name is Christine.... her monastery out of the sudden it burned down one day by an evil sorcerer. She had a mentor also. She lost him since that day, during the fight, the clues is showing her mentor is going to revenge and kill the evil sorcerer.... she's young like at her 20s and trying to find him to help him... that's her backstory in sum up.... can I make her an aasimar?

Yes you can make an Aasimar but I will need to look at the race again to make sure the standard Aasimar is fairly balanced but if I recall I think it is just want to double check.

Okay so she is a Paladin so what kind of deity do you feel she would have as a patron? And what if instead of her mentor directly seeking revenge his spirit is guiding her in taking righteous retribution but said evil sorcerer?

Also why not give them pseudo bones a roll and see what kind of attributes you get for this character?
Jun 24, 2021 12:40 am
Okay I have added the Aasimar to the Character Creation Parameters thread you can either be a Protector or a Scourge your choice.
Jun 24, 2021 10:26 pm
Well, I dont know.... I know that my mentor is not dead. Just chasing the sorcerer... and thank you I will fix my character sheet and you can ckect it to see if it is ok.
Jun 24, 2021 10:27 pm
If you want to kill him... is up to you. You make the rules and the storyline....
Jun 24, 2021 10:28 pm
And what do you mean pseudo bones roll?

Can you pls help me with the attributes? how I roll dices here?
Please do not be shy not only can I help you with the above but many of the other players here could have as well and might have chimed in even before me. But to answer your above posted question first.

Mentor -- the state of your Mentor is a collaborative effort which means it is mostly in your court (or your decision) mine is just a suggestion based on the character class and race you are choosing. Being an Aasimar you have a connection to the Celestial realm which could allow a dead Mentor to visit you and grant you guidance and such while on your mission of retribution - or at least that would be how they would phrase it -- your character might view it as revenge (assuming this sorcerer you are hunting did happen to kill your Mentor perhaps only after your Mentor was greatly weakened and maybe because you Mentor was protecting you making the loss even more personal). Still in the end you are the one that is in control of this aspect of the storyline as it is your background, my suggestion is mainly put forth to add extra flavor to the story for you and perhaps give you assistance along the why by allowing you to call upon your Mentor from time to time for Guidance.

As to -- rolling them pseudo bones -- its a tongue-in-cheek reference to -- rolling dem bones --or-- rolling dice. The pseudo aspect being that these are not real dice but a pseudo-random-number-generator as creating an actual random number generator is next to impossible. With that how does one roll the dice here on Gamers Plane

1) At the bottom of the Quick Reply where you type in your text you see 2 buttons Post and Advanced
2) Click on the Advanced button
3) This changes the bottom section of your screen presenting you with 4 options
.... Add new roll : (dropdown) Basic, Star Wars FFG, Fate, Feng Shui (leave it on the default of Basic)
.... An Add button
.... A Post button (used once you are done)
.... A Preview button (not really needed for this)
4) Click on the Add button 6 Times
5) This presents you with 4 sets of options repeated 6 times
.... Reason -- the description of the roll
.... Roll -- what dice you are wanting to roll
.... Visibility (dropdown) -- Just leave this on Hide Nothing
.... Reroll Aces (checkbox) -- Leave this unchecked
6) In each of the Reason boxes just put in "Roll #" as in Roll 1, Roll 2, etc...
7) In each of the Roll boxes put in 3d6
8) Click on the Post button

The results you get will look something like what you see below :

Again questions are welcomed here and the other players are usually more than happy to help someone that is new to Gamers Plane with how to use aspects of Gamers Plane. So no need to be shy as we all were once new to Gamers Plane as well and had to ask these and other questions about its interface and how to use it.

Okay so your Attributes are as follows :
( 2, 4, 3 ) + 6 = 13
( 5, 4, 6 ) + 6 = 17
( 1, 1, 3 ) + 6 = 10
( 4, 5, 3 ) + 6 = 15
( 4, 3, 1 ) + 6 = 13
( 3, 6, 2 ) + 6 = 15

Which is fairly nice, should be able to make a quality Paladin from those.

As for the HP Guidelines this is something I adopted way back in 1st Edition DnD because I always thought it was unfair that if part of your class features is a higher Hit Die then why are you severely penalized for being unlucky at rolling dice. Further I have been on adventures using those standard guidelines where the Wizard had more Hit Points than the Fighter did which absolutely made no sense to me. As such I use a variant of the -- either roll your Hit Die or take the average (round-up) -- instead I say everyone rolls a 1d4 for hit points and adds the remainder of their Hit Die as a bonus as follows :

Hit Die : 1d6 --- becomes -- 1d4+2
Hit Die : 1d8 --- becomes -- 1d4+4
Hit Die : 1d10 -- becomes -- 1d4+6
Hit Die : 1d12 -- becomes -- 1d4+8

This assures that Fighter-types will always have more Hit Points than a Wizard further it allows the characters a bit more staying power (aka a bit more Heroic) which can be very handy when in a situation where combat is taking place. The important key is that it is balanced as every character gets this benefit.
