So what’s the exact order in which we’ll attack? With the modifier I know Abenor rolled 16 but what of others’ totals?
Feb 27, 2022 10:54 pm
In whatever order you post. For play by post, I don't care to enforce a strict order between players.

Why did you roll initiative then? To figure out when the creature attacks?

Typically that's why, yes. This was a poor example because the creature beat us all, but typically what you'll see is, gor example if Tabat had beat the creature, our GM would have had me go first. Then he would post the narration and the creature's actions, then he would open it up for wveryone (including Tabat) to go.

Right. Initiative breaks the group into these chunks:

1) first players
2) foes
3) rest of players

The bottom of round 1 and the top of round 2 then include all of the players together. So initiative becomes:
1) fastest players
2) monsters
3) all players
4) monsters
Etc.

Just to let everyone know, I have a convention this weekend that I help run (I'm over the gaming hall), so from today until Monday, my responses might be slow, or even non-existent. I will try to check in daily, but I make no promises.

Me again. I want my character to be able to throw something accurately. Since I didn't buy a bow, it'll be a non-weapon. Which skill can I use to try something of this nature? I thought about Profession, specializing him in throwing things but that would either be not likely (I don't exaactly know the extents of the Profession skill) or unwise because I would throw away one skill only for a specific scene. Any thoughts?

I think this depends. If you want to throw something accurately in combat, its going to be a dex-based attack roll. If outside of combat...GM rules otherwise. If a heavy item, maybe athletics. Light item, acrobatics?

Tbh as both a player and DM I've always used dex rolls both in and out of combat. (Though there is an item that let's you use strength)

Whether or not this is actually the rule I don't know. Always assumed it was. Only now am I thinking about it. 1e doesn't have athletics, and professions tend to be more knowledge based, but If someone had professions athlete I may let them use it.

o.0 YOU'RE RIGHT, don't know what I was thinking.

I agree. In combat, it's just a Dex based attack, however, a character who uses a weapon with which he is not proficient, including improvised weapons, takes a –4 penalty on attack rolls with that weapon.

If it's out of combat, then again Dex is appropriate, but I would hesitate to apply the -4 penalty. I'm thinking here of throwing a ball, etc.

I realized I had to pick another favoured class becasue I'm a half-elf. Since I am already a level 2 Ranger, does that mean I get to choose it when I take another level and use it on my second favoured class? And can I choose Unchained Rogue, dear @Qralloq? I've done some research and it has some real cool benefits in later levels.
Mar 11, 2022 1:28 pm
You can choose your second favored class later, that's fine with me. And Unchanged Rogue is certainly available: WhtKnt (Iseret) is playing one.

Let me get one thing straight. What is the difference between multiclassing and having two favored classes when you play a half-elf? Is it that if you're multiclassing, you only get the class benefits of the your additional classes but when you have two favored classes, let's say, you gain those class benefits again and in addition you can invest +1 hp or +1 skill rank (when you take a level on that class, of course)?

Let me exemplify. My character level is 2 now and Ranger level is also 2. When I take another level, let's say I have chosen Unchained Rogue. Since I get to choose two favored classes, now my character level is 3, I'm a level 2 Ranger and level 1 Unchained Rogue and I get all the level 1 benefits of Unchained Roge, plus I get to choose either to take one hp or one skill rank (both for Ranger and Unchained Rogue).

If I wasn't a half-elf and just multiclassing, above conditions would still be the same, except that I only would do plus one hp or skill rank thing for Ranger, not Unchained Rogue.

Is this correct?

Pretty much yeah. It's quite minor or irrelevant in most characters but in some builds where a large mount of levels are taken in both it gcan net back a decent amount of hp/skill ranks (or th race specific bonus)

I will say now though be careful on the multiclassing. It's not inherently bad, just be aware iteans slowing access to later stuff in the primary class (especially if you end up getting an animal companion). Sometimes it can be worth it though. (A friend of mine once made a very effective ranger druid combo.)

Yeah, I understand that stakes are quiet high at this but level 3 Unchained Rogue's can add their Dex modifier to damage rolls as well, which is pretty neat actually. Thanks for answering.
Mar 11, 2022 5:55 pm
That is fair :P

Be aware there is a weapon enchantment that does the same, but of course costs money, especially for two weapons.

There is also a feat chain, but I think for two weapon fighting takes 3 feats? Okay there is but its increases the penalties so is not necessarily the best option. Its slashing grace + two-weapon grace

Gonna jump here so as not to clog up the game thread - >While a great idea on the rope, would take a few action/turns to complete. grabbing the rope would be a move, as would cutting etc Still if its all we have.

As far as aware Acid Splash wouldn't work on a swarm, as its single target, but you speak of a controversy Surfer?
Mar 12, 2022 12:27 am
It is just that in the Kingmaker PC game it work. And the game designers decided to keep on Wrath of the Righteous. And it makes senses that .acid splash would damage a swarm. In 2e I understand that this kind of spell dameges swarms.
Mar 12, 2022 12:37 am
"A swarm takes half again as much Damage (+50%) from Spells or effects that affect an area, such as splash Weapons and many Evocation Spells." This is a weakness in the rules, as the splash damage from many splash spells is 1. +50% means still 1. I rule that the primary target damage is what damages the swarm, increased by +50%. To me, that is most consistent with the idea of many tiny bugs.
