Some People Call Yall Space Cowboys

Space is a big place and there's usually a lot of decent work for various people with specific skillsets but when you finished a job close to the center of the galaxy between a federation and an alliance of some sort your boss opted to get you, the crew, and his ship someplace less likely to loss him money during the military naval battles that would sweep the area possibly. That's why you find yourselves in the outer rim of known space where things seem a little more relaxed, less organized and always in need of something to be done. The ship has docked at Space Station New Wyoming it seems for the foreseeable future as the next venue is planned out.

As the rest of the crew and pilot go over maintenance routines and upgrades since there's a bit of downtime ahead you find yourselves free for a few cycles it seems to take a job or just relax, not the type to just burn through all the credits in your pockets you find yourselves in a bar eating a meal together trying to figure out a possible side job.

The three of you wonder how to breach the subject of looking for a job for some side credits when Jelar looks and picks up his plate and drink as a man flies slamming down into the table back first and flails disoriented your meals sans Jelar's flying all over the place. Another man dives on top of him a dagger in his hand trying to stab him in the face, chest, or arm it seems.

Card draw on site changes so I'm going old school

King of Spades Ol' Slim
Queen of Diamonds Stabber on Table
Three of Diamonds Rovann
Three of Clubs Jelar
[ +- ] Iniative in Savage Worlds
You watch the man on top either because of rage, disorientation of the target or the mashed potatoes on his victims face stab down repeated with little successful defense as blood splatters ruining the dining experience. Others seem to be fighting as well some just trading bunches others smashing bottles or chairs while others also go for lethal methods of violence.

Ol' Slim is up, feel free to ask here or in OoC about what to do, besides just eat since there's a bit of blood everywhere.

So what are we gonna do? are we gonna roleplay now or roll for something? and will you be the one to draw cards? also I have no idea of the characters I'm partying with since there's no character intro anywhere...are we gonna write our intros here? and it would really help if We can all see each other's character sheets

OOC:
Update: didn't notice part of the post was in notes. You can roleplay as much or as little as you're comfortable with, if you're doing specific things there might be a roll possibly depending and I'll let you know. Cards are just for initiative rounds or a chase for a Sci Fi stock game so yes I'll be drawing them for the rounds as needed. You can talk it out OoC or through an intro but sharing Character sheets is something players have to opt to do. You three know each other but not well I figure, close enough to work together but not close enough to tell each other your life story possibly. Meta freebie would be you (Rov) can tell the other two are quite smart and Ol' Slim is older than the both of you. We're currently at the three of you at a table eating, fight broke out, a man died, and your meal except Jelar is ruined. In the moment you just have to figure out what you're doing once Ol' Slim goes.

In his younger days, if a bar fight broke out, Ol' Slim would have probably gone all in. But, he most certainly wasn't young anymore. For now, he slides his chair away from the table, and tries to figure out who the 'good guy' in this fight is, if there even is one.
OOC:
I can't think of anything else I want to do besides survive. Maybe see if the murderer guy has a weakness?

Okay, let's try my first Savage Worlds roll. Doesn't look like I have any Notice modifiers

Wild Die - (1d6, RA)

(64) = 10

Slim moving back and out of the way gets a broader and bigger picture and notices amidst the bar brawl some things. He doesn't know who the good guy is from the closest fight. One guy is dead and the guy on the table with his knife is looking around at the others a bit wild shaking his head, the way his breath is ragged might be from the murdering but the fact his eyes seem to unfocus and refocusing of his eyes and shaking his head makes you wonder if he's been poisoned. In addition you get the gist of what's going on due to that and the people fighting around two people fighting over a briefcase violently swing at each other while tugging on the case for possession. While it's unclear who's in the right or wrong people getting in the way of getting that briefcase might make an enemy or two out of few patrons of the establishment.

The man looks form those closest two him his eyes wild one seems to be holding his meal the other seems to be surprised by the situation in front of him.

"What? You think yur better then me!" he jeers out swing at Rovann wildly. From his vantage he gets slash off on Rovann but either due to slipping on gravy, the body, or possibly being on something he doesn't do any damage besides a scratch on Rovann's body armor.
OOC:
I think you're parry is actually at 5 if your fighting is a d6. Also Rovann's turn is now.

Rolls

Tabletop slashing attack - (1d6, RA)

(63) = 9

Dagger Damage - (1d6, 1d4, RA)

1d6 : (4) = 4

1d4 : (2) = 2

Wait what? we're already in combat? How am I to calculate damage here? and what attack will I use?
Jul 20, 2021 12:03 am
OOC:
@mormegil, reading the rules it explains;
To make a skill check, roll the skill die plus a wild die (usually d6) and keep the highest result. Make sure you check the RA box to automatically reroll aces.
If you do not have a skill, you roll a d4 plus the wild die and subtract 2 from the highest result.
The difficulty is 4 unless noted otherwise.
Every +4 on the margin of success is a Raise and has a special effect (e.g., rolling an 8 against the standard difficulty is one Raise and rolling a 12 is two).

The skill check you need to make here is Fighting. See if you took that skill.

Well before you calculate damage you need to figure out what you want to do, do you want to try and punch him, grab an improved weapon (dinnerware or chair) and hit him, or try and kill him by pulling your gun and shoot at a penalty, move away, try a smarts or agility trick, taunt, intimidate or persuade them? So since you made Rovann you'd know more than me what he would do in this situation. Figure that out maybe write something up like crazybirdman did and then we'll figure out if a roll is needed.

Okay...I'll try something...pulling out a weapon is a Free action right? so gonna do that and shoot that guy
Rovann was silently contemplating on how to get enough credits to pay his debt to a Federation-backed lending company. His musings and his plate full of food were shattered when a body came flying around to hit the wall next to them. Another guy was quickly on top of the flying man and begun to stab the hapless person. After the bloody work was done, that same wild-eyed man brandishing a knife (seriously?) spouted something incoherent at Rovann but he didn't get what he was saying focused instead on the ruined remains of his lunch on the floor. Granted it was just dehydrated mashed potatoes and some kind of meat that looks like it could still walk away, but it's still the next best thing he will eat for a long time here in the outer rims...

He was jolted out of his reverie when he felt a push on his right shoulder. he looked and a nick appeared on his combat armor. The crazy idiot actually tried to stab him. Many things rushed on Rovann's mind all at the same time: first he was getting slow and distracted to not see the attack at him. second that someone had the temerity to try and kill him when he was just minding is business. And last, he was still hungry. Pissed off and hungry isn't a nice combination for any person. But for a young mercenary who's pissed off, hungry AND broke, that was just the last straw. ''I need to blow off some steam anyway...thankfully a suicidal idiot like you came up! thx berk!'' at that with a motion tempered with years of training and practice Rovann swept his SLR-15 rifle from the maglock built into the back of his armor and pointed the barrel at the offending knife wielder's head, ''Pop! goes the weasel!'' He said before pulling the trigger...

Rolls

Shooting weapon (Shooting skill 1d8) - (1d8, 1d6, RA)

1d8 : (3) = 3

1d6 : (1) = 1

Drawing would be an action for you and then shooting so Multi action Penalty would be -2. I forget if there's an equipment route to do it in Savage Worlds but I know there's a quickdraw edge. Going to GM hand wave you move away a bit before shooting, shooting in melee range would need to pass his parry and a longarm would have a penalty (which is why hand waving you move away first since it's easier to swing around your rifle). So total you got a 1 (3-2 from multi action penalty).
Rovann moves away from the slippery slasher and starts blasting the food around him, the flails a bit disoriented by the sudden use of not a fist or knife as food and shattered dinnerware assault him.
OOC:
So you didn't hit but probably scared him awesome action response though, Jelar's up and we'll draw cards again. Everyone's a bit away from table slasher besides Jelar and a bit aways from the group the brawl continues not overlapping with any of you yet.

I knew I read somewhere that drawing a weapon was a free action? I might be wrong though but yeah nvm
Jul 20, 2021 6:03 pm

I checked it out on p.92 for free actions since things might have changed for SWADE but dropping a weapon is a free action. Quick Draw is not an edge also in SWADE I've found out.

You still readied a weapon since you had to pull out your rifle to shot, it just wasn't free since you're pulling something from off your back from a sitting position versus an easy to reach location. That said a 3 still isn't enough to hit either once moving back a bit.
No natural one either so no gun issues.

No worries it a learning game, also in normal cases shooting target number (TN) is 4 versus if you shot him with a pistol (I know you have a rifle but pistol is easier to use in melee for sake of arguement) while in melee would have a TN equal to his parry.
