Never played it, or heard of it till know honestly...

It's a pretty great system, in my obviously established opinion. It's far more focused on storytelling and "failing forward" than systems like D&D (except possibly 5e) and Pathfinder which feel more like wargames with their tomes of rules for every situation and comparatively complex class systems.

In a nutshell, whenever you attempt to make a move (hit an enemy, fire an arrow, dodge out of the way, cast a spell, etc.) you roll 2d6 and add an ability modifier. So far, so good, right? Well, Dungeon World has a concept of "partial success". If you roll a 10+, you succeed at whatever you were trying to do without issue. If you roll a 7-9, you achieve an aforementioned partial success. 6- is failure (in an interesting way depending on the GM). The great thing about DW is that 7-9 range. As a GM, I can make a "move" in my own way that balanced out the PCs success. And it's entirely dependant on what they were attempting.

Casting a Spell? Well, a partial success means you can choose to lose control of the spell, lose the spell for the day (you don't lose a spell on a 10+), or take a -1 on casting going forward as you struggle to control your magic. Bashing someone with your hammer? Awesome! You hit!... and get hit back.

One really interesting thing as a GM is that I never roll a die. That also means no direct "monster attacks". Instead, I place the characters in a position they need to react to, "The iron golem awakes as it senses an intrusion. Still bound by the magics that create it, it lumbers forward intent upon crushing you beneath it's large, metallic fist. What do you do?"

The player can then react to it, "I'm obviously going to try and jump out of the way!" And we decide what move that would be, "Sounds like you're trying to Defy Danger with dexterity, roll for it."

"I got a 9 total. Crap."

"No, that's not bad. You manage to quickly sidestep, but trip over your feet in the effort! You find yourself hitting the ground and your sword escapes your grip, clattering across the floor. Gimli! You see your friend fall into a vulnerable position, about to be crushed by this magically fueled brute. What do you do?"

And so on... the idea is that the GM prevent a "front" that PCs can react to. Everything keeps moving forward, even if a PC "fails". No more, "Oh, you rolled a 4 for perception? You see your own feet and nothing else."

I can go on and on about Dungeon World. I completely fell in love when introduced to it and the liberal style of the rules and play allows me and my players to tell the stories we want without the heavy weight of Pathfinder or D&D 4e rules. As far as I can tell, there's no way to subscribe to posts, so I don't know if anyone will see this, but I've played Dungeon World and I'd play it again. I might even run it, though I haven't really absorbed the GM side of the rules yet. But I have taken a lot of the approach to heart and I use aspects of it when I play 4th Edition. The weight of rules only matters if one is worried about upholding every single one of them.

Right now, the best way to find posts is the latest post feature on the top right of the main forums page. I have plans on adding a thread subscription feature, there's just so much to do!

No problem. It's just that with old threads, I don't know if the author is keeping track of responses.

I'd also be up for playing Dungeon World if there is still interest.

I discovered DW this year and I love it! Awesome, awesome system! Just for context, my background is almost 30 years of D&D. So is anyone running a DW game on GP yet? I'd be really keen on joining!

I would play this! Certainly!

Dungeon World's still not getting any love on GP? It's a shame. If only I had the guts to GM!

Dungeon World is on my reading list. I have the player side pretty figured out, but I'm still not 100% comfortable with the GM side. I like it though. I'd love to try it sometime.

So many games, so little time! I've heard lots of good things about Dungeon World. I really like the idea of partial success / failing forward, which I've enjoyed in the Fate and Freeform/Universal games I've GMed.

VERY interested in Dungeon World! Has anyone in this thread (or in the forums as a whole) been involved in a game here on GP yet? If not, is anyone willing to run? I'd be interested in playing. If no one wants to run, I'd be willing to step up - just be sure to keep in mind that I've run only one PbP, and played in one PbP, so my experience is limited.

I've only been here a few months but to my knowledge no one has run DW here yet. I've no GM experience but am VERY keen on playing (I've been in a few RL DW games but never PbP). If anyone sets up a game save me a spot. :-)

GP doesn't currently feature Dungeon World character sheets but the system is loose enough that it shouldn't be difficult just using a Custom sheet. ;-)

If people are still interested, I would be interested in running a one-shot using a dungeon starter.

I'm still up for it

Yes, I'm interested. I've bought the rulebook and am reading through it.

Complete(?) core DW rules are available online though www.dungeonworldsrd.com or book.dwgazetteer.com.

Yes, it's a OGL game, but I haven't regretted the purchase, as they include every possible format, including Kindle which is super convenient.
