Adriana is relatively new to the world of sin-eaters. I don't see her being more than three years after her first death. She and Vikki joined the Krewe through Adriana's acquaintance with Max before and after her murder. She's still not quite sure she made the right decision of Krewes. She knows at least one member of the Crossroads Kings, but they aren't exactly close (not a Contact or Ally).

I will be trying to make the first post of the game for tomorrow at some point. If I can’t, then it will probably happen on Sunday evening or Monday day since I work on weekends.

So you all know what to expect, each player will be in control of both their character and their Geist. The only time I might temporarily seize control of a Geist is if it suffers a crisis point (p. 91 of the core book), and even then I’d only do it with the player’s permission.

When roleplaying your Geists, keep in mind the nature of your relationship to it. The strength of your relationship is based on your Synergy rating. Unless I’m mistaken, you all have Synergy 1 with the exception of Derek (Remnant’s character). As such, most of your relationships are labeled "Coercive". This means they are transactional in nature. You have a business deal, but each of you aren’t necessarily above bribing, cajoling, or threatening each other. You aren’t enemies but aren’t quite friends. Remember this when roleplaying interactions between your Sin-Eater and Geist. You can read more about the rules for relationships in the Crisis Point section.

The first chapter of the game with be a straight forward ghost hunt. This will give you all a taste of standard Sin-Eater affairs, and will provide some time for those new to the Storytelling System to ease into the rules. Chapter 2 is where the main storyline will kick off.

I was going to go with awkward roommate vibe. XD Plus asking the odd married couple questions like, Have you seen my purple socks with the things on them?

Also PC builds okay?

Sorry guys I may need to back out. I haven't had the metal energy or time to work on a new character right now, especially one as complex here. Been having to lower my GP games a fair bit.

Everything looks fine with PCs. I PMed anyone who needed to tweak something, but I did that a few weeks ago so I’ll probably do one last check.

Sorry to see you go. If you manage to finish the character in the future, you could always jump in later on.

No worries. PbP is many things, but quick has never been one of them ;). First steps are often the hardest to take.

Incredible opening post Gnome_Chomsky! I am sorting out details for my intro post in my head atm, but it may be tomorrow before the creative muse allows me to make sense of it and translate to a proper narrative.

Thanks, RR! And great opening posts from everyone! I’ll be posting again tonight. I work on weekends so I can sometimes be a little slow to respond Friday-Sunday.

I’ve been busy but I’ll try to finish the write ups for the celebrants either today or tomorrow. The ghost celebrants are done, so far.

One other thing to get out of the way…

I want to forewarn people that this game will deal with mature, potentially touchy subject matter: death, grief, loss, religion, suicide, etc. It’s sort of unavoidable given the nature of the game. I’m sure you all understood that going into this, but I figured that it’s worth repeating. I try to respect everyone’s comfort levels, so if I ever address anything that’s a little sensitive for you, please don’t hesitate to message me.

Character Advancement

I should mention how I plan to do experience points.

The 2e Storytelling System uses a mechanic called Beats. You gain Beats when fulfilling one of the following criteria:

• When you fulfill an Aspiration.
• When you resolve a Condition (some Conditions provide Beats for actions other than resolution).
• When you fail a roll and opt to make it a dramatic failure.
• When you take damage in one of your last three Health.
• When you fail a social roll and it results in your impression level lowering by one.
• Some Beats might be given as an award by the GM or for various other situations.
• Beats will also be provided at the end of each chapter. The number of Beats will depend on how long the chapter lasted and how much the krewe got accomplished.

All Beats accrued by players go into a common pool. Once the pool has accrued 5 Beats, everyone gets an experience point and the pool resets to zero. So each time one of you gets a Beat, it benefits everyone.

In addition to regular Beats, there are two sub-types of Beats: Krewe Beats and Synergy Beats. These Beats go into there own pools. The difference between them and other Beats is that they are restricted in how they can be spent. "Krewe Beats" are cashed in for "krewe experience," which may only be spent on krewe advancement. "Synergy Beats" are cashed in for "Synergy experience," which may only be used to increase one's Synergy rating.

Experience points may only be cashed in for character advancement at the end of each chapter.

The krewe itself has its own stats and can be advanced with xp, much like a character. Regular experience points and/or krewe experience points may be spent to improve the krewe's Traits, as well as to buy new Merits and Ceremonies for the krewe. However, all players must agree before spending xp on krewe advancement.

You can read more about Beats on p. 76 of the Geist core book. Just a heads up, I tweaked some of the rules for Character Advancement so that your characters gain xp more quickly. Since the play-by-post medium moves at a glacial pace, I tend to be generous with experience. Otherwise, pbp characters advance at an incredibly slow rate.

Normally, Beats are limited to one Beat per category per scene. However with the exception of the Health criterion, there is no scene-based limit for this game. This house rule is tentative. I may revoke it if I find that your characters are gaining Beats too quickly. I'm feeling things out to see what works best for play-by-post.

One more thing… due to some additional interest that I received about Geist, I have enough people that I may decide to run a second Geist: The Sin-Eaters game. I’m just letting you all know so you aren’t surprised if you see a posting about it. Although the second game will probably also be set in New Orleans, there will be no crossover with this group. Completely separate game.

It wasn’t an intentional provocation, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. I might need you to make a roll at some point. I’ll be posting again later tonight.

Anyone else having problems with their text changing colors. Yesterday Adriana's spoken words were a readable lavender for me and today they were nearly unreadable against the background. I changed the text color twice, each time going lighter and lighter, but the text keeps showing up darker and darker.

I think that might have something to do with the site update pushed recently. Idk for sure though.
