Lambor's Hold

"Well, that's less than ideal," Taz mutters to herself as the creatures decline and move off. She folded her arms and watched them go, her mouth twisting to one side while she mulled over options. Narissa's suggestion caused her to look over towards the tiefling, and she nodded.

"Probably for the best. If we wait for them to come here, people in the village will get hurt. If we follow them to where they're staying, maybe we can use surprise as an advantage. I'm not unsympathetic if they really did live here once, but we can't let them just mow through the people here." At the mention of the white pebbles, Taz tries to think of where she's seen such a thing before.

"We should head out," she suggests. "See if we can get to them before they prepare whatever assault is coming."

If the party's in agreement, she'll head out with them, attempting to move as stealthily as she can.

The rocks aren't quite pebbles, just tiny pieces of white stone. Or at least, that's what they appear to be. As Taz leans in and inspects them closer, she very quickly realizes that they are actually salt.

Narissa sighs, "I have the feeling that this is going to end in a blood bath." She shrugs looking at Taz, "What you got there?"

Looking at where Taz is looking, Arphaxad noticed the white lumps on the feet of the retreating fae-creatures. It looked to be salt and having spent many hours in the kitchens of the Blackstone halls as an assistant cook he knew what salt looks like. Whether it be sprinkled in dishes or being trodden on the feet of blue-skinned not-goblins.

Sooo...something tells me they live in a salt mine? or do they regularly season their feet for impromptu eating?

"I can't say I'm particularly stealthy but I agree to following."

pfffff They are trolls, right? I've never seen a troll but they are tiny aren't they?

"There is a salt mine to the northwest of here," Durlim says. "It's where we get salt when we need it, though there hasn't been any real large-scale mining done there since long before our time. We don't know who originally built it."
Nov 6, 2021 2:44 pm
"...salt." Taz said aloud, only realizing what she was looking at as she answered Narissa's question. She turned towards the others, giving Arphaxad an odd (but slightly amused) look at his comment on eating feet.

"Well, we have a good guess as to who is living there now, even if we don't know who built the mines," she pointed out, nodding to Durlim's input. "How far to the northwest? Do you know anything else about them that we should know before trying to reach them?" she asked.

And if we're going for any form of stealthy approach it pays to tell if there are any hidden passageways into those mines...for once I want to get the jump on these beasties! As if to make his point, the Dragonborn warrior smashed his fists together in a menacing gesture.

"Not too far, just over an hour at a leisurely pace," the mayor replies. "There isn't much to know about them. They don't go in very deep before a spot where they're caved in. There is no other entrance to them as far as I know, and if there is, it's not connected to the main one. We used to go there somewhat regularly to retrieve some salt but since the attacks started and the forest has become too dangerous, only Leffint has gone there."

Taz nodded at Arphaxad's point, only to have the hope he'd mentioned squashed promptly by the mayor. She chewed on her lower lip, thinking it over.

"Hmm. I'm worried that Leffint's name keeps coming up. He's been so unwilling to talk about the matter, but clearly he's involved somehow. It's possible he's just sympathetic to the fae, but I can't figure out why he'd still make his home here, if that's the case." She shrugged, and looked around to the others.

"But we're not going to find any answers standing around here. Let's go see what we can see," she suggested, trying to prompt her comrades to get moving. "Here, walk with me and I'll help you spot the noisy places to avoid stepping," she said, a bright grin on her face while she hooked an arm towards Belathor, who'd expressed concern about his aptitude for stealth.

After they leave the village Narissa turns to the others. "I am also feeling less and less confident about the woodsman’s motivations." Her tails whips back and forth irritably. "I can not help but wonder what these so called Fey might have on him, a hostage perhaps or the promise of wealth."

"Oh, I hadn't considered that," Taz admitted, with a frown. "But maybe that's not the case. After all, it doesn't seem as though he's mounted any kind of campaign to convince the people to leave the village. He's just being quietly surly that they don't seem to want to do so. Seems like if he was being blackmailed somehow, he'd have been more aggressive about trying to get people to leave." She sighed, and shrugged.

"But who knows?"

Bah! too much musing for uncooperative ornery folk...if he was back in Blackstone Hall where I live, we would have tied him up and dunked his head in a barrel of cheap dwarven ale until he calmed down and make more sense...step carefully now...we nae know what surprises be in store for us down the mines...

Okay, I made a roll for Auras now so we can move ahead
Your group sneaks through the forest, always some distance behind the blue creatures but close enough so you don't lose them. You speak quietly to each other in order to not attract their attention. They head steadily Northwest and don't seem to be aware of you. Belathor steps on a branch once, which breaks with a crack, but when the fey look around and don't see you, they keep going, unaware of your presence.
After a long walk, you reach a clearing. The fey head onto it immediately while you stay at the edge.
There is what looks like the entrance to a tunnel underground in the middle of the clearing. In front of it are five more of the fey, waiting for the three messengers to return, as well as what looks like a tall, beautiful elven woman in an elegant dress in the colors of autumn leaves.
You can't make out a difference between the fey, in appearance or clothing, but from the way they interact, it becomes clear who their leader is as one of the five harshly addresses the others and they reply. You don't understand the language but it looks like the messenger are relaying how their mission went to the others.
Nov 11, 2021 1:30 pm
"Oh, wow," Taz breathed, watching with wide eyes from a patch of foliage as the fae convened with their own. "Look at that. That must be the 'Lady' they mentioned," she whispered. The half-elf narrowed her gaze, and looked for any indication as to the elven woman's role.
