I just accept them without looking. Then we can all look at it and discuss the details.
I see that @Trailhead added his character to the game. Is there a way for us to see it?

Trailhead will need to make them visible. Then you will be able to view the character sheet.

How far back in the story line do you recommend I read to get a good feel for the setting and current characters?

Yup, I can see it. (I like the layout! :) )

I’ve read the current roleplay thread and understood where the party is at the moment, but is there a good place in the previous thread to get a little more context?

Thanks, since I couldn’t find a WoDu template, I just used a Dungeon World template and simplified it.

I don't know why my quote said "vagueGM" lol, probably a bad copy/paste.

These references are useful to know.
Besides that did you read the summary?

Thank you very much!

I would think that just reading the current thread and the summary is enough (but it is hard to judge). There are no other immediate events that you need to know about for what is happening.

If you have questions about any of it, ask us and we can point you to relevant posts or explain, as needed.
I think it might be simplest to say Deoring has been with the party all along --rather than coming up with a reason for them to be out here in the uncharted wilds. Maybe they were one of the caravan guards, or one of the bandits who changed sides?

Tell us a bit about them. Just a sentence or two.

OOC:
I think it makes sense that Deoring was one of the caravan guards. He’s not strong (STR = 0) but he’s in good shape (CON = +2). Working on caravan guard duty has built up his endurance.
He grew up in a fair sized town (Lund) and although he had a decent home (miller’s second son) he liked roaming the streets and tended to get in trouble. He got picked on at first but gradually learned to be a scrappy fighter and is good with a blade. After getting pilloried several times by the local constable, he signed up as a guard for a caravan and that was his best decision ever. Got him away from his home town that was starting to feel a bit small and enabled him to use his street smarts and fighting skills in a focused and productive way.
OOC:
Does that sound like a good fit?

I’ll need to think a bit on what dream he would have had about the temple.

Is the "true name" mentioned in the rules something we’re using? If so, I’ll add one to my character sheet.

TrailHead says:

He is also cleaver and wise (+2 INT and WIS). We don't have to explain that, but it is interesting.
TrailHead says:

Interesting contrast with his apparent level of education. Did he also receive schooling, or are his brains just a natural gift?

Remember you are all Fresh Faced adventurers, none of you have ventured far from where you grew up, and have no experience adventuring, or of the wider world.

If you are not from the large town the others came from, maybe 'Lund' is nearby and you have guarded the caravan on the route between those two places?

How long have you been a caravan guard?

What is your relationship like with the guard captain (who is one of the two NPCs with the party)?
TrailHead says:
... need to think a bit on what dream he would have had about the temple ...
We can also leave that for later, it was mainly a tool to help the GM know what sorts of things to use as rewards for later. Having been with the party the whole time removes the need to worry about why you are coming along.

Can you point me to a reference?

I would assume that is something only magic users care about? Most people avoid magic.

It's in the manual.
Quote:
names
True names have power. If you tell someone your true name, they can attempt to have you
raised from the dead if you met your end before your time. Choose a true name below
I noticed it too while I was making my character.

Ah. I assume I had a reason for removing that section when I copied the rules to the site.

That seems like a specific setting element that we don't need to worry about unless we want to. If it comes up we can sort it out?
Feb 16, 2022 10:27 pm
Yeah, it seems to suggest that it's important to keep your "true" name secret, but then it doesn't really explain it.

Yeah. That is a fairly standard fantasy trope. We don't need to use it any more than any other trope.

Good question. Let’s just see if this emerges in play.

Understood about being Fresh Faced. Sorry, I didn’t realize everyone was from the same large town or that there were large towns in the setting. I can be from there as well. Suits my character getting street smarts. Let’s say my high CON is due in part to running errands all over town for my Da when I was young, then running the streets when I was a teenager.

Let’s say I was hired on to guard the caravan when it arrived in the large town where the rest of the party joined it. So however long that’s been — not very long, I gather?

I’m going to roll a D6 to determine my relationship with the captain. Low rolls are negative and high rolls positive with a 1 or a 6 being very much so.

Sounds good.

And I won’t worry about my "true name" unless it becomes relevant.

Rolls

Relationship with the guard captain - (D6)

(2) = 2
