Nice rolls!

Yep. They're not bad at all. I have had a devil of a time deciding what I Want to do with them, though. I think what I have settled on if it is appropriate, is a Cleric of Justicia. I am toying with the idea of taking inspiration from the first Dragonlance Trilogy and starting off RP-wise as a regular Joe, then maybe have a cathartic vision if he manages to reach level 2 that seals him as a member of the faith and grants him access to divine magic. Is that too cheesy?

I'm going to grab some dinner then I'll finish up. I'm just lacking character art, equipment, and making a firm decision on backstory.

Thank you all for welcoming me. I have enjoyed everyone's work on the story thus far and am looking forward to diving in!

I approved Phineas.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye on the story thread for his cue to enter. I assume that he will be a conscript like the other PCs. If you have something else in mind, let me know.
Sep 2, 2021 3:31 pm
I was wondering about this -- we could presume you've been with us all along... (swap one cleric for another!) -- or we can certainly meet on the road.
Sep 2, 2021 3:37 pm
I'm good with the swap or meeting in the road.

If assuming that Phineas has been there all along is the way things need to happen I would roll with it, but it's not my preference. I'd rather wait and join in when it makes sense to do so. I'm excited about getting started, but I'm not in any particular rush.

The group is actually about to embark on a more or less empty road while on a patrol of sorts. It would be perfectly reasonable for you to be heading in the opposite direction. A key question here, which side will you be showing yourself to be on? The other PCs are conscripts, not necessarily voluntarily, in the service of the Lord Commander Emil. There are however militias about opposing Emil because he and his troops deposed the dukes/duchesses that formed the aristocratic regime. Alternatively, you choose some other allegiance. The choice is yours! Perhaps we could collaborate to invent someplace for your character to be frome. I haven't created any theocratic settlements yet for the world map, so we could develop one quickly for you.

Ultimately, Phineas' allegiance is to Justicia, of course. If I had to choose, though, it feels more appropriate for him to be on the side of the Aristocracy since they have the de jure claim to the land. Having said that, he could certainly have been conscripted into Emil's army, too. Since it isn't clear yet whether or not the party plans to continue in Emil's service, I think it makes sense for Phineas to either be a conscript, or an independent party. Maybe he has just arrived in the region? Or maybe he has been conscripted and was sent out on an earlier patrol that the party passes on the road?

I think that is a good idea, regardless of which side of the fray Phineas is on, to have some idea of where he is from. I am happy to work on that with you. Your mention of a Theocracy brought Vatican City to mind. Perhaps a Theocratic city-state that remains sovereign and apart from other nations because they are recognized as international mediators?

I like it! What if Phineas were on a diplomatic mission as an international mediator? He could choose his side but still remain sort of apart from what had been transpiring since he would have arrived after the initial wave of carnage. This would also explain his presence in the area. He's got a place to be from, and a reason to be out in the world. Would this work?
Sep 3, 2021 3:52 am
That will absolutely work. I just preferred not to hand-wave him into the story as if he'd been lurking in the shadows for the first day or two.

Are you thinking that one or both of the parties sent for a mediator, or that word reached the Justice League (just kidding) that there was trouble and he was sent to offer his service? If someone requested a mediator, I assume that would have been the former regime?
Sep 3, 2021 12:05 pm
The former regime sounds good. Perhaps Phineas was intended to serve as a good-faith an impartial third-party observer to negotiations between Hoffnungsadel's regime, and some other locale. Those negotiations have clearly been derailed leaving Phineas in an uncertain position, and alone in a potentially hostile environment.

Obviously, suggestions only.

Also, Phineas can be an honorary Dr. Fate representing the "Justicia League." I think that sounds...super!

That works for me. Phineas will be in the wings watching for his cue.

::face palm:: I have no one to blame but myself...

;-)

I'm picturing us coming up as Phineas is trying to pass judgement on some quarrel... or him on the run or treed by angry rebels looking to pay him back for some past grievance when along strolls a patrol... ;)
