⏳ Latest Posts to Latest Community Posts

Now we have a list of Latest Game Posts on the homepage, should we make the top homepage list exclude game posts and call it "Latest Community Posts"?

I never use "latest game posts" and only ever use "latest posts". If you want to add a latest community posts, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it as long as it doesn't replace "latest posts" but I don't think it would find much use.

I think there are two types of people on GP: The ones that stay pretty much only within their games and will use "latest game posts" and the ones who want to stay up to date on the whole page (like me) that will use "Latest posts". I don't see what "latest community posts" would achieve as I doubt there's any people who use the public forums but want to forego the private ones.

This one's a no from me. Unless someone can point out a good reason for why this would be useful

For me "Latest posts" is usually just game posts and they're right there underneath. So if you look at my screen snippet above - the first two are the same in both lists.

I'm only talking about the three on the homepage not changing the "Latest Posts" page.

I think we discovered the "mark all as read" early on, which allows us to stay on top of things.

I wonder how users who haven't done that get along with it.

Would it be possible and/or make sense to have all posts before someone's joining be marked as read?

I use Latest Game Posts all the time, but simply because of the arbitrarily small number of posts shown on a single page. If I've been away from the site for most of a day, I could have more than forty threads waiting for me. The "page 2 of 2" doesn't always show up, so clicking Only Game Posts at least gets more non-game posts into the screen before I have to switch to the arduous task of opening up every game forum (that I'm not the last poster in) navigating to each of the possible places an update might occur, and checking manually.

If the page showed up to a hundred posts, even if I had to click a link each time, I wouldn't care if you ditched "only game posts".

That brings up another interesting point. Why does page 2 of 2 only show up sometimes? What determines that?

Okay, so it sounds like you two don't use the homepage. Now, that's probably because the homepage isn't really doing its job - but a full redesign is going to have to be done with sensitivity.

But for those of us who DO use the homepage... Should we change the Latest Posts widget to be Latest Community Posts to reduce the duplication with Latest Game Posts?

It doesn't show anything older than one week. Could that be it?

I do use the homepage and frankly, dividing game and community posts would be great. Neat things are neat you know?

No, the unread games posts that I'm talking about would be less than 24 hours old.

Yea, I'm pretty sure there's never been a time for me where the last weeks worth of post would not fill more than on page of Latest Posts 😄

Okay. This is morphing. I've split this into a new issue.

The question here pertains just to the "Latest Posts" widget on the homepage. You haven't rolled a Nat 20 on investigation and found a secret passage into getting Latest Posts fixed for you.

I offer the observation that now Keleth has added the "Latest Game Posts" widgets, there's significant overlap with the "Latest Posts" widget on the homepage. This is exacerbated by the fact that it shows only three messages.

I propose that the Latest Posts widget on the home page becomes "Latest Community Posts" and that the link at the bottom of it is called "All Latest Posts" (which would still go to the Latest Posts page and you can moan about it here).

Okay, so I don't think anyone would actually browse a "Latest Community Posts" page. But having it as a Widget might not be the worst just to further highlight the community to users.

Considering we here don't use the front page that much, I don't know if we should be the ones to decide this 😄 To me, the front page is just a worse version of "Latest Posts" with the added benefit of the "Your Games" links on the left. Though it would be so much better if there were direct links to all my game pages, not just the latest three

I differ with the Bowl. I like this idea, I do use the homepage to start my GP dives, and would use it.

Hm, maybe it would make sense for someone like Q who probably gets 5 game updates per second 😄 I just make sure to keep everything on my Latest Posts page updated and read and that works fine for me. No need for filters

Sure. As long as I still get to use my Latest Posts page and can access it without difficulty, I'm totally fine with it. And as I said, I see the use. Anything to bring new users into the community as a whole is a win for me 🙂
