Chapter 3 - Into the Wilds

You are able to leave the ruins of Thundertree without encountering any of the nasties that Reidoth had warned you about and have started your journey through the grasslands to Cragmaw Castle. The morning sun continues to rise, removing any moisture from the tall grass left over from the previous night's rain. And while the ground is still wet, the further you get from the Thundertree the less the mud seems to affect your travel.

It's just about noon when you reach the edge of Neverwinter Wood. The tall trees allow a filtering of light through and the undergrowth, at least in this part of the wood, is nearly non-existent, making for easy travel over the light ground covering of old leaves and vines.

About and hour into the woods you can hear multiple deep, rough voices barking out to each other in the distance in some sort of Goblinoid tongue. Seconds later both Belanor and Gerbo catch glimpses of movement from either side of the group.

"Ready yourselves." Gerbo hisses as he draws his rapier and a small bit of fleece out. He grips the fleece in his hand and yells, "Come out and fight. My master thirsts!", pushing a giant black specter, carrying a translucent meat cleaver and a chain, from his chest with roughly humanoid shape, 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide.

Being in the wooded area many of the foliage looks to be plenty of cover for Belanor!
Using the travelers cloak to the best of its ability.

Karma is pulled out of his daze as he admires the beauty of the Forest in all it’s glory by Gerbo’s words, "What’s up dude? Oh company. Sweet best to be prepared then."

The Dwarf starts mumbling to himself, which in it’s self is nothing new but shortly a light greenish glow covers Gerbo, Belanor and Kerisha.

Kerisha was enjoying the peaceful walk through the forest, until it was rudely interrupted by the voices.

"They surrounding us. Not goblins, something else."

She pulls out her sword and readies herself for attack.

Crashing brazenly forward two well armored Hobgoblins rush in to attack. The first, leading with its shield, attempts to run through the large black specter with its longsword and does just that. Nearly tripping from the expected clash that never occurred the warrior mumbles in confusion only to be struck in the back with a bolt of fire courtesy of the once hidden Belanor.

The second hobgoblin catches sight of Kerisha and yells out a furious battlecry. Trailing its sword along the ground as it charges it closes the distance quickly only to be met with a vicious preemptive strike from the Barbarian. The momentum of the charge carries the lifeless body forward as it crashes into the ground and slides several feet along the dried leaves of the woods.

Gerbo cackles and leaps forward, aiming a lunge of his rapier at the heart of the hobgoblin fooled by his illusion, before breaking off his attack to move nearby Kerisha.
OOC:
Disengage cunning action, then move to Kerisha.

Gerbo's blade pierces the chainmail armor with ease, skewering the Hobgoblins heart with ease. With a whimper it drops to its knees and slowly falls forward.

"I'm sorry", Belanor quickly let's out as he runs past the hobgob that Gerbo guts.

He heads towards the way they came thinking there's not more that direction.

Turning about, Belanor draws his short sword hoping it would be a deterrent against others.

He'll raise his hand letting loose another fire bolt at an upright hobgob.

Standing his Warhammer upright next to him and calmly draws a light hammer hurling it at the Hobgoblin Belanor is attempting to set a flame, "Dirty and cowardly nature meat-eaters!" he yells.

Teaming up on a single Hobgoblin both Karma and Belanor launch their attacks. The sorcerer's bolt fires wide and slams into the ground where some of the downed leaves start to smolder.

Karma's hammer flies true, but the Hobgoblin is able to raise his shield in time to absorb the blow.

Kerisha turns her attention to the oncoming duo. With Gerbo at her side, she feels a rush of feelings. She is overwhelmed to be fighting alongside others...alongside friends. With a giant bear like roar, she rushes forwards to the hobgoblins, meeting them head on, sword held high.

Feeling confident after quickly dispatching one of the attackers with a single blow, Kerisha charges headlong into battle. Swinging downwards with full force at the first Hobgoblin that comes within range, the Barbarian's attack is deftly brushed to the side with skillful use of a shield. With her blade striking nothing but wet leaves and moist dirt, the two Hobgoblins quickly counter, each striking painful blows with their longswords.

The final attacker rushes in from the left and spots the little Rogue who struck down his companion. With a primal yell it charges forward and takes a sweeping, backhanded swing with its sword, slicing across Gerbo's chest.

His nerves still getting the better of the Sorceror, Belanor's bolt of fire misses high and continues its flight off into the distance. Hoping for better luck Karma moves in and takes a powerful swing, but the shield defense of his opponent once again deflects his attack.

Regaining his balance after the cut across his chest, Gerbo breaks off from further attacks by the Hobgoblin and rushes over to Kerisha, where he tries to make a stab upwards into the belly of one of the Hobbies.

With her bear totem on rage, Kerisha would take half damage, @Szemely are you rounding up or down? I know PHB states round down, so that would be 9 damage so far

The hobgoblin swords cut into Kerisha, but her skin seems thinker than they might expect, and the wounds are not as deep as they should have been. The strikes fuel her rage, and as Gerbo lashes out from the shadows at one, she brings her sword down at the other foe standing in her way, but her blind rage means she gets nothing but wet leaves and mud once more.
