OOC:
Yes, I think we're done here.

Karma brightens up quickly with his Uncle’s words, "It’s not you Uncle, I just need to accept I’m not quite an ordinary Dwarf dude." he says returning the bro hug. He collects his things and helps his Uncle get the hell out of here.
OOC:
Let’s go.

With Gundren rescued and his map to Wave Echo Cave back in his possession, the bruise and battered Dwarf is just as eager to get back to Phandalin as the rest of you. He grabs a sword from one of the Hobgoblins and leads the way out of the castle.

Stepping into the mid-morning sun he stops and stretches his arms back while taking a deep breath. "Not much for the outdoors, but wasn't sure I'd ever be seeing the sunlight again. My thanks to all of ya!"
It doesn't take longer than a few hours before you exit the southern end of the Neverwinter Wood and emerge into grasslands north of Phandalin. It will most likely be well into the evening by the time you reach town, but at your current pace you know you'll reach the Tri-Boar Trail before the sun sets.

During the trip it's hard for Gundren to contain his excitement about reopening the mine, repeatedly offering everyone in the party a cut of the profits if they're willing to help clear the place out and get it ready for "proper Dwarven mining". His excitement does start to wane a bit, however, when your reach the outskirts of Phandalin. The kidnapping, subsequent beatings, and long walk into town have taken the toll on the stoic Dwarf.

"Going to get me a room at Stonehill's for the night. Suggest the lot of you do the same and maybe grub up before hand. Tell ol' Toblen to put it on my tab." he says, before trudging off in the direction of the Stonehill Inn. Just before he reaches the door he turns and looks back.

"And think about my offer! We can talk more in the morning if it's of interest to ya."
OOC:
It's about 10PM in the evening and you've just reach town.

Gerbo goes to the Inn to get a room setup and heads out to the bar for a little while to try to con some unsuspecting drunkards. Need to keep my wits sharp. My martial skills have gotten enough practice the last couple days.
OOC:
Are the Redbrands still around town?

It's a quiet evening in the tavern. A young elven women with a broom is cleaning up between the empty tables, while Toblen chats with a few townsfolk at the bar. He gives Gerbo a quick nod before continuing his conversation.

At the far end of the bar sits a well dressed man, slouched forward after obviously having had more than his share of ale. A coin purse dangles from his belt, along with a short sword.

The intoxicated patron slowly raises his head and looks over towards Toblen.

"More... drink I need." he blurts out, pounding his fist onto the bar.

Toblen ignores the man and carries on with his conversation.
OOC:
You haven't see any Redbrands in the short amount of time you've been back

Gerbo's fingers twitch a little and he saunters over to the bar. "I'll have some Gnomish gin." He tries to act casual and when they return with a drink, asks, "Who's the bum over there?"

Belanor will also gather a room for the night with plans of discussion in the morn.

Kerisha wants nothing more than to check on Qelline and Carp, but bursting in on them when they are most likely asleep is probably not the best idea. So she grabs a key from Toblen and settles down for the night with her to do list. She crosses off "Kill Red Cloaks" and "Find Uncle". Below the remaining "Stop Orcs", she adds "Check on Qelline" and "Help Reidoth with Dragon"
Jan 24, 2022 8:47 pm
Toblen shrugs his shoulders and places a shot of Gnomish gin on the bar in front of Gerbo.

"Never seen him before. Been at the bar since this afternoon. Rude as all get out to poor Arwen over there..." he says, leaning in towards the rogue as he motions to the women cleaning with his chin.

"She gives it as good as she gets though and he's been a good tipper so she's put up with him. I cut him off about an hour ago, figure he'll leave soon enough."
Jan 24, 2022 9:44 pm
Gerbo thanks him for the drink and leaves an extra Electrum piece on the counter. Grabbing his drink as he hops down from the stool and saunters over to the drunk man. Hopping up across the table from him, he clears his throat, "Excuse me, sir. Do you like games?"
OOC:
If the group wants to keep going, I'd be fine with shortening this to a Deception or Sleight of Hand roll to avoid holding everything up. Otherwise, I'm good with continuing IC.

"Ssssure..." the man slurs, his bloodshot eyes barely open.

"What y.. what ya got in mind?"
Jan 24, 2022 10:52 pm
Gerbo smiles widely. Turning to Toblen, he asks for 3 mugs. "I promise I won't break them or do anything fishy. We just need them for a game."

Turning back to the man after (presumably) receiving the mugs, he says "All you have to do is guess where the die" he holds up one of his fair dice "ends up after I'm done shuffling the mugs. If you win, I'll help you out and buy you a drink. If somehow I win, I get maybe...20 gold, seeing as I'm at a disadvantage in such a simple game."

Rolls

Persuasion - (1d20+5)

(17) + 5 = 22

"Twe..twenty gold? Ha! Lets fifty make it..."

He grabs for his pouch and lazily spills its contents onto the top of the bar, nearly spilling some over the edge. Gathering his collection of platinum, gold, and silver coins together, he slowly slides out five platinum pieces to the side and slams his first into the bar.

"Put, put up... place your fitty on the bar... too..." he drunkenly sputters.
OOC:
Every one should level up to 4 before meeting with Gundren in the morning.

Gerbo laughs and he puts his 50 on the table. "I like your style." His eyes gleam mischievously as he places the die under a mug. He starts slowly, bumping the mugs together a bit to feign incompetence, trying to look nervous.

As he picks up speed, he realizes he hasn't done this for a while. He pushes through it and even tries his old trick of scooting the die between mugs halfway through the routine. As he comes to a close, he finishes with a flourish and gestures to the mugs. "Which mug?"

Rolls

Sleight Of Hand - (1d20+6)

(7) + 6 = 13

Jan 25, 2022 2:46 am
The man blinks slowly as he watches, shaking his head several times as he appears to lose track of which mug is the correct one. When Gerbo finishes the routine the man's eyes go wide and he ponders for a few seconds before he points to the middle mug.

"That one!"
OOC:
Strike it up as a lucky guess...

Rolls

Perception Check w/ Disadvantage - (1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (15) + 4 = 19

1d20+4 : (20) + 4 = 24

OOC:
Ouch.
Gerbo knows he failed, but decides to try one last ditch effort to save his money. He lifts the left cup. "Nothing there. Looks like you lose, friend."
OOC:
In case it's not clear here, the implication Gerbo makes is that the man is too drunk and is trying to gaslight him into believing that he actually picked the left cup. I realize this might be a stretch, so feel free to ignore the roll and just say he sees through the lie if you feel that's better.

"Ahhhh. Tho… thought I had ya there."

The man slaps the top of the bar in disappointment and slides the coins over to Gerbo.

Karma traveled back helping his Uncle as much as he can, realising that he had been a little sensitive at the jab. He reminded himself that he needed to chill and accept his differences. Feeling better after his pep talk he even attempted a few jokes with Gundren, which the elder Dwarf politely diverted conversation from by eagerly bringing up the mine each time.

By the time they returned to the village and he saw his Uncle to bed, Karma made his way out into the forest for a little communion.
Jan 25, 2022 1:12 pm
Gerbo grabs the gold and platinum and scampers off to bed, saying "Well, it's been fun. I'm pretty tired.".
