Chapter 4 - Cragmaw Castle

Nov 22, 2021 4:30 pm
Having decided to keep up the march after the encounter with the Hobgoblins you continue onwards towards the castle. The rest of the afternoon and early evening pass without incident. About and hour after sunset, with the bright moon overhead, you reach the clearing that Reidoth had mentioned. In front of you stands the old castle.

The castle consists of seven crumbling towers of different sizes and heights, but the upper stories are all in varying states of collapse. A short flight of steps leads up to a terrace in front of the main entryway. Past the wreckage of a pair of sundered doors lies a shadowed hall. Round towers loom over the entranceway, with dark arrow slits looking down on the terrace.

There is another path which runs along the southern face of the building where a set of stairs leads to a large iron door.

"As much as I wish to find Gundren, I think it best if we did this in the light? Perhaps it would also lighten most of the castle?"
Belanor says looking at the castle.

Karma shrugs his shoulders at Belanor, ‘Why worry about the dark.’ he wondered to himself.

"Maybe we could spend the time scouting out another way in, that front door looks very negâtory to me dudes."

"Sure or we could find a spot to camp. We've been walking quite a ways and I'm a.bit tired." Belanor protests.
Nov 24, 2021 9:18 pm
Gerbo's ears perk up at the mention of a scouting/stealthy mission. Finally, something more than just walking.
"Maybe some of us could scout and others could stay and watch the front or set up camp? Just a quick jaunt around wouldn't be too bad and we could still get back before bedtime, I think."
Nov 27, 2021 2:32 pm
Kerisha has never been one for sneaking around. After all, its obvious she's not exactly built for it. Its also clear that storming a castle head on is a foolish idea. It would however be glorious!

"I stay and guard camp" She plonks herself down on a log and settles in.
Nov 27, 2021 5:23 pm
OOC:
So I have Kerisha and Belanor hanging back, setting up camp, while Karma and Gerbo scout the castle a bit?

If that's the case let's have everyone make a Perception Check and the scouters give me a description of what they're looking for and a Stealth check as well.

Gerbo and Karma's trip around the castle provides little information that wasn't already apparent. The castle is in a state of disrepair, with sections of the outside wall having been hastily covered up with rough timber. To the north is a heavily used footpath which looks to run towards the building.

Overnight on several occasions distant foot steps can be heard moving about the woods. From the sounds it's easy to tell that each time it's a small group of individuals.
OOC:

Coming back to camp, Gerbo relays the information to the rest. "The place is a dump. Didn't really see any other ways in, but honestly, we could probably climb or break through the dumpier sections of the wall."

Gerbo sits to enjoy some tea from his pouch and rest his feet a little.

Moving carefully past the west end of the castle you can clearly see figures moving about as they pass by the arrow slits which watch over the approach. Rounding the corner you can see a bow being readied in your general direction only to be withdrawn after a few tense momeents. The occupants are either aware of your presence or paranoid. Possibly both.

The damage to walls, while significant, has been repaired enough that any attempt to bust through would take a significant amount of effort and time. It could be done, but not without drawing the attention of the occupants.

Reaching the footpath which Gerbo and Karma found the previous evening appears to be the best bet, when it's discovered that the path does indeed lead to an entrance obstructed with dusty canvas. Pushing the cover aside you can see that the tower above has almost completely collapsed, although the ground floor still has a little open space. Rotting crates and ancient barrels show that provisions were once stored here. A heavy curtain blocks a crumbling area to the south, and an intact door, made of wood and bound by iron bands, leads east.

When Gerbo sees Karma looking around for traps, he tries to do the same, focusing on the door. This could very well be a trap to let them ambush us.

He also looks around the walls to see if there are any holes that could be used as arrow slits for an ambush, or to put something in the alcove to harm intruders.

Looking carefully at the stone Karma determines that this structure was once a magnificent sight to behold. The workmanship was impeccable, clearly crafted by those with immense talent; even if not quite up to Dwarven standards. Based on it's current condition the Cleric estimates that it has been abandoned for generations.

The room doesn't appear to have been set up as a trap for intruders and both the curtain to the south and the door to the east show no signs of being trapped.

As the door swings open the sounds of a heated conversation flow into the hallway. A deep, growling voice demands some sort of payment, and someone with a silky smooth voice replies that payment is not going to happen.

Peering in, Gerbo sees that the room has been set up as a crude living space, with thick furs thrown on the floor to serve as carpets, old trophies hanging on the walls, a large bed to the north, and a brazier of coals burning brightly. A round table with several chairs stands to the south near the door. Near the table, on the floor, is an unconscious dwarf who looks badly beaten.

Before the rogue can ascertain any more details he catches something out of the corner of his eye. Rushing towards him is a rather large wolf, teeth bared, ready to fight! The wolf's snarling catches the attention of the other two occupants who each reach for their weapons.

The crossbow bolt clips the wolf's ear before plunging deep into its muscled back right between the shoulder blades. It lets out a painful yelp as it runs through the door after the cowardly rogue, only to find Kerisha standing in the way. Bloodied but determined, it lunges, mouth open, at the barbarian who is easily able to swat it jaws to the side.

Seeing the commotion, the Drow quickly moves towards the unconscious dwarf.

"I'll take care of him, you call the others!" she calls out to the bugbear who let's out a deep chuckle while reaching for a huge mace. In a deep, low voice he yells out.

His body finally gives in and he slowly slides down the wall and onto the floor.

Kerisha lets out an "Ooof" as she collides with the Drow. With her size and speed she expected to knock over the Drow no problems, but it was a much more difficult and painful task than it should have been. Dragging herself to her feet, Kerisha tires to get herself between Gerbo and the Drow, to protect the gnome from the vicious blows. She swings her sword like a bat, using the flat side in a hurried attempt to bash her foe.

Breathing heavily, Kerisha tries to wipe some of the wolf, Drow and Bugbear blood from her face. As her rage subsides, the aching in her body intensifies. She holds her shoulder, which is throbbing after connecting with the rather solid Drow. She looks to Karma as she drops to a knee catching her breath. She simply grunts as Gerbo suggests lifting the bugbear. But she is too tired to argue, so she attempts to lift the Bugbear. Soon realising she just doesn't have the energy, she opts for the slightly less graceful, and much slower approach of dragging the limp and rather heavy body over to the hobgoblins.

Weak, but conscious, Gundren's eyes light up when he sees a familiar face.

"If it isn't the pride of the Barksmoker clan." he says. And even though he struggles getting the words out, his stress of the word 'pride' does not go unnoticed.

"Good to see ya, lad, we'll make a proper Dwarf of you yet, but we've got other matters to attend to. The Bugbear King stole my map, we need to find it, and then see if we can rescue Sildar from the grimy goblins that ambushed us."

He rolls slowly onto his side and works himself up to a seated position where he catches his first glimpse of the carnage around him.

"So much for the King." he chuckles, pointing to the Bugbear. "Smelly bastard!"

He then looks at each member of the party in turn and the looks to Karma.

"Friends of yours?"

"Aye... that's the map."

He shakes his head back and forth, to try and clear his thoughts, and works his way to his feet where he takes a second look over the party.

"Ah, the crew I sent to Phandelver. Must have taken a few too many knocks to me head there, didn't recognize you at first. Can't thank you enough for the rescue, but doesn't mean I won't be rewarding you. First order of business though is to see if we can find Sildar."

What's the plan? Gundren is asking to reduce Sildar (he doesn't know any better) and he is now in possession of a map to a place called Wave Echo Cave.

From the PLACES GUIDE post...

Wave Echo Cave: More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.

"And make some coin for the clan while we're at it of course!"

Gerbo starts fiddling with his hand crossbow a little as he continues, "I think staying here is probably not the best plan, so we should get moving. I suppose making sure our employer is safe is our first job, so I think you need to go back to town. Anyone else have an opinion? We need to leave before someone shows up here and we have to fight some more baddies off. Can you walk, Gundren?"

"yes to town you go." Belanor says before the idea of him having to face not monsterous enemies arises again.

Still feeling a little hurt by Gundren's words Karma just nods and simply says, "We should ensure my Uncle's safety first."

Feeling fresher after a swift drink, Kerisha is ready to move on, but first checks over the bugbear for any trophy of her conquest. She finds little on the bugbear except for a simple looking needle. She is about to discard it, but if feels surprisingly strong and unwilling to bend. Kerisha tucks it away safely, somewhere is wont stick into her.

Detecting a change in Karma's tone, the roughed up dwarf tries his best to smooth things over.

"You Barksmokers are good clan, Lad. Wouldn't have let me sister marry into it if I didn't think so - not that I could stopped yer mother if a tried, mind ya. You did good coming out here and rescuing me, and if you help me get that mine up and running we'll cut you into the operation fair an' square. Smashing rocks, son! That's what we're meant to be doing!"

Karma brightens up quickly with his Uncle’s words, "It’s not you Uncle, I just need to accept I’m not quite an ordinary Dwarf dude." he says returning the bro hug. He collects his things and helps his Uncle get the hell out of here.
OOC:
Let’s go.
Jan 23, 2022 7:35 pm
With Gundren rescued and his map to Wave Echo Cave back in his possession, the bruise and battered Dwarf is just as eager to get back to Phandalin as the rest of you. He grabs a sword from one of the Hobgoblins and leads the way out of the castle.

Stepping into the mid-morning sun he stops and stretches his arms back while taking a deep breath. "Not much for the outdoors, but wasn't sure I'd ever be seeing the sunlight again. My thanks to all of ya!"
It doesn't take longer than a few hours before you exit the southern end of the Neverwinter Wood and emerge into grasslands north of Phandalin. It will most likely be well into the evening by the time you reach town, but at your current pace you know you'll reach the Tri-Boar Trail before the sun sets.

During the trip it's hard for Gundren to contain his excitement about reopening the mine, repeatedly offering everyone in the party a cut of the profits if they're willing to help clear the place out and get it ready for "proper Dwarven mining". His excitement does start to wane a bit, however, when your reach the outskirts of Phandalin. The kidnapping, subsequent beatings, and long walk into town have taken the toll on the stoic Dwarf.

"Going to get me a room at Stonehill's for the night. Suggest the lot of you do the same and maybe grub up before hand. Tell ol' Toblen to put it on my tab." he says, before trudging off in the direction of the Stonehill Inn. Just before he reaches the door he turns and looks back.

"And think about my offer! We can talk more in the morning if it's of interest to ya."
OOC:
It's about 10PM in the evening and you've just reach town.

It's a quiet evening in the tavern. A young elven women with a broom is cleaning up between the empty tables, while Toblen chats with a few townsfolk at the bar. He gives Gerbo a quick nod before continuing his conversation.

At the far end of the bar sits a well dressed man, slouched forward after obviously having had more than his share of ale. A coin purse dangles from his belt, along with a short sword.

The intoxicated patron slowly raises his head and looks over towards Toblen.

"More... drink I need." he blurts out, pounding his fist onto the bar.

Toblen ignores the man and carries on with his conversation.
OOC:
You haven't see any Redbrands in the short amount of time you've been back
Jan 24, 2022 4:56 pm
Gerbo's fingers twitch a little and he saunters over to the bar. "I'll have some Gnomish gin." He tries to act casual and when they return with a drink, asks, "Who's the bum over there?"
Jan 24, 2022 5:11 pm
Belanor will also gather a room for the night with plans of discussion in the morn.
Jan 24, 2022 8:41 pm
Kerisha wants nothing more than to check on Qelline and Carp, but bursting in on them when they are most likely asleep is probably not the best idea. So she grabs a key from Toblen and settles down for the night with her to do list. She crosses off "Kill Red Cloaks" and "Find Uncle". Below the remaining "Stop Orcs", she adds "Check on Qelline" and "Help Reidoth with Dragon"
Jan 24, 2022 8:47 pm
Toblen shrugs his shoulders and places a shot of Gnomish gin on the bar in front of Gerbo.

"Never seen him before. Been at the bar since this afternoon. Rude as all get out to poor Arwen over there..." he says, leaning in towards the rogue as he motions to the women cleaning with his chin.

"She gives it as good as she gets though and he's been a good tipper so she's put up with him. I cut him off about an hour ago, figure he'll leave soon enough."
Jan 24, 2022 9:44 pm
Gerbo thanks him for the drink and leaves an extra Electrum piece on the counter. Grabbing his drink as he hops down from the stool and saunters over to the drunk man. Hopping up across the table from him, he clears his throat, "Excuse me, sir. Do you like games?"
OOC:

"Ssssure..." the man slurs, his bloodshot eyes barely open.

"What y.. what ya got in mind?"
Jan 24, 2022 10:52 pm
Gerbo smiles widely. Turning to Toblen, he asks for 3 mugs. "I promise I won't break them or do anything fishy. We just need them for a game."

Turning back to the man after (presumably) receiving the mugs, he says "All you have to do is guess where the die" he holds up one of his fair dice "ends up after I'm done shuffling the mugs. If you win, I'll help you out and buy you a drink. If somehow I win, I get maybe...20 gold, seeing as I'm at a disadvantage in such a simple game."

"Put, put up... place your fitty on the bar... too..." he drunkenly sputters.

As he picks up speed, he realizes he hasn't done this for a while. He pushes through it and even tries his old trick of scooting the die between mugs halfway through the routine. As he comes to a close, he finishes with a flourish and gestures to the mugs. "Which mug?"

Karma traveled back helping his Uncle as much as he can, realising that he had been a little sensitive at the jab. He reminded himself that he needed to chill and accept his differences. Feeling better after his pep talk he even attempted a few jokes with Gundren, which the elder Dwarf politely diverted conversation from by eagerly bringing up the mine each time.

The combination of the brightness of the early morning sun and the smell of monring meals being prepared eases you awake after a good night's rest. When you arrive downstairs into the main dining area of the Stonehill Inn you find that instead of the usual packed dining area there is but a single large table set with enough food to feed a small army. Gundren sits at the head of the table where he and Sildar are carefully looking over the map recovered from King Grol.

"Have yerself a seat and dig in!" Gundren says, directing you to one of the seats at the table.

"Let's eat and discuss business."

Kerisha thuds down to breakfast after a good nights sleep. She's ticked a few things off her list recently, but there is still much to do. She tucks into breakfast with vigour. Its not often she sees such a spread of food laid out in front of her. One thing she has learnt is to eat well when you can, you don't know where your next meal will come from at times, so make the most of it when you can. She also pockets a few of the rarer items to gift to Qelline and Carp when she next sees them.

Karma’s sleep had been restless after returning from his encounter with Macska, those green eyes penetrating his dreams. He got up early and went to a nearby river for a swim and rinse before joining everyone and finding a seat next to Kerisha.
"Morning dudes and natures blessing." he says to all before leaning over to the HalfOrc and whispers, "Met the strangest Cat last night in the woods, did not want to join me in communion strangely. Anyway, had deep green eyes and a gem studded collar. Did not say much except that it would be catch us later?"
Karma then turns to his plate and starts eating.

Gundren raises an eyebrow at Gerbo's use of a nickname, but continues on with his meal, chatting with Sildar on and off while doing so, occasionally pointing at the map.

Once everyone has had their share of the food the Dwarf pounds his wooden mug into the table three of four times to get everyones attention.

"Many thanks to the four of you for coming to my rescue, a debt that I hope will be payed many times over if things go as planned."

He grabs the map and holds it up high above his head.

"Wave Echo Cave, home to some of the richest veins of minerals a dwarf could hope to get his pick into. It's been lost for near four hundred year, but my brothers and I have found it! Unfortunately, from what I managed to overhear during my capture, a Drow that likes to call himself the Black Spider is also aware of its location and has his own interests in the cave."

Laying the map back onto the table, Gundren starts to slowly pace back and forth.

"My brothers stayed to guard the entrance to the cave and with this Drow's interest in the place, I fear for the safety. I plan on leaving this morning to see if they may have retreated to the campsite we used as a base during our initial search. It's well hidden and stocked with provisions. From there I will head to cave."

He stops and places his hands onto the table a takes a deep breath.

"What I'd like the four of you to do is to head to the cave, see if their are any signs of my kin there, clear the place out. I know it's a risky proposition, and I ain't asking you to do it out of the kindness of your hearts, so this is my proposition. Five percent of the cut on any profit we make once the mine is up and running; for life. Stay on with me in some capacity as we run the mine and your cut goes up to ten percent. We can really build something here, bring prosperity back to Phandalin, and make some good coin in the process."

OOC:
I didn't see if someone grabbed it, but Gerbo wouldn't have left a bag of cash sitting on the floor, so is it safe to say someone picked it up? I left an equal cut for the others in the bag, so I'm not gunning for it, but I didn't see explicit "I take my cut" stuff in the posts. I just don't want to let loot go to waste.

Kerisha stops shovelling a rather tasty pastry into her mouth as Karma leans in to whisper to her. She looks confused at the description, not recalling ever seeing anything like that on her travels. She gulps down the sticky bun before whispering back "Could be trouble. Shall I add to list?"

As talk turns to money, Kerisha gets lost in thought about what she would do with all that money. But other than 'Buy shiny sword' she's out of ideas. With Gerbo agreeing, she offers her fist to Gundren to signal her intent to look after her little tribe members.

Karma needing some positive vibes makes his way through town and heads to the Village temple/shrine/church.
Feb 10, 2022 7:25 pm
Karma has little trouble locating the only temple in town, as it shares a common area directly in front of the Stonehill Inn. The open air shrine, made of miss-matched stones lined in a semi-circle about a crude stone altar, is in the care of an eager young female elf, dressed in weathered, but well kept robes.

"Greetings and welcome, Friend! May Tymora's luck shine upon you."
Feb 12, 2022 2:53 am
Thou not a normal Dwarf, Karma still feels a sense of peace around rocks and stone. The greeting from the Priestess bring a beaming smile to his face (a DC17 on perception required), which is lost beneath the mop of hair covering it. Karma has always felt a love for Elves and the easy relationship with nature.

"Greeting Dudette of Tymora. I had seen your shrine previously and thought I could do some repairs to the stonework, I am in need of some good vibes and mojo."

*** AT THE LIONSHIELD COSTER ***

Entering the modest trading post, Belanor is caught of guard by the flurry of activity so early in the morning. A human woman stands behind the counter of the establishment, barking out instructions to four others, who are cleaning and arranging merchandise to be sold.

It's obvious to Belanor that the women has noticed his entrance, but she goes about her business as if he wasn't there.
*** AT THE SHRINE OF LUCK ***

Karma is familiar with the goddess Tymora and those who worship her; commonly they arepeople who rely as much on luck as skill to complete their objectives. He is also aware that most shrines to her offer healing in the forms of potions and scrolls; as luck isn't always of the good variety.

The young woman in care of the shrine detects what she thinks is a smile, and returns one of her one; her long ears perking up when Karma mentions stonework.

"Sometimes doing honest work for others can be the path to good vibes and mojo. And, to be honest, I've always wanted to see what a skilled craftsman could do with these old stones."

Taking a closer look at the crude structure, Karma instantly recognizes that the stones are a collection of picked over remnants from old ruins. Solid, but old and weathered.

"I am Sister Garaele." she says, bowing slightly.

"And I would be honored if you would let me observe your work."
Feb 12, 2022 4:55 am
"Thank you Dudette . . . sorry Sister Garaele, I am Karma Barksmoker. I am not the greatest of craftsmen but I do find the labour calming and pushes away the world’s negativity as much as communion in the wilds." Karma examines the stonework moving bits a pieces around which maybe loose, using his eye to figure out what supplies and equipment he will need to make the improvements required.

"I have only been here a short time but I find myself drawn to the feel of this place, though there seems to many things a miss. What can you tell me of this township?"

"I've only been in town for a little over a year now and understand why one would enjoy the atmosphere that this place provides." she replies, carefully watching Karma as he inspects the stonework, clearly curious of the whole process.

"Like all villages in the realm there are things which could be improved upon, but in the last few days things have taken a turn for the better. The main source of fear and villainy, a group calling themselves the Redbrands, seems to have dispersed! If they have indeed left for good this town can flourish."

Feb 12, 2022 10:43 pm
Clearly enjoying his conversation with Sister Garaele, Karma takes longer than he would have to make an assessment of the stonework. He goes into details on how his colleagues dealt with the Redbrands, telling the story as a third party and not including his own involvement.

Upon completion of his examination he smiles at Sister Garaele, "It was wonderful to chat with you Sister I have made some notes on how we could improve this shrine for you. I will speak my Uncle and Elmar Barthen so we can get the right equipment and materials to make improvements, it is very important to a village a connection to the gods."

"Please take these and give them to your friends that have done such a great service for Falu. With the Redbrands gone, the citizens have one less thing to fear."

Kerisha can clearly see Qelinne working the field as she approaches the farm. With her back to the road the halfling does not see her guest arriving. The ever vigilant Carp, on the other hand, has been "shadowing" Kerisha for some time now, oblivious to the fact that he is not nearly as stealthy as he thinks he is.

Any further attempt at stealth is quickly abandoned when the young lad notices the treats being removed from the barbarian's pockets.

"Kreesha!!" the boy yells, running towards the road. "You're back!!"

Gerbo spends an hour (and 10 gp of materials) sitting at the table, tools strewn across the table, hard at work creating a toy frog. After his work is complete, he gives it one last doink with the small tinkering hammer and it starts hopping forward, croaking as it goes. He runs around the table and grabs it, unwinding it and placing it in his pack for safe-keeping. Sweeping the rest of his tools into his bag, he heads off to the general store to see if they have a deck of cards and to restock anything in his component pouch he used up. After this, he heads out to look for his companions.

Not much Gerbo needed to do in town.

Belanor will wait for a bit before looking to see if there are any signs for the post/delivery.
OOC:
if not seeing any,
"My pardons, I see you are quite busy this morning. I have need to send a parcel or 2. How would you like me to go about with that?" Belanor scooting up to the counter during the request.

Feigning her surprise, Kerisha pretends to almost drop the pastries "Oh Carp. You scared me!" She hands over the treats to the excided youngster, who quickly scurries off to devour the food. Kerisha grabs a rake and helps Qelline tend to the field. Being in the fresh air and tending to nature helps her to stay relaxed. She always worked as hard as she could. Even harder than most, just to prove a point. But even that wasn’t enough to prove her worth to the tribe. But one day. One day they will know how wrong they were.

"Ah! An actual customer and not someone here to just poke around at the goods."

The woman quickly brushes away some of the loose odds and ends on the counter and motions Belanor forward.

"Bring 'em here and let me have a look. Wagons are going out this morning, so your timing couldn't be better... Depending where you're sending them of course."
*** AT THE ALDERLEAF FARM ***
With Carp off enjoying his pastries, Kerisha and Qelline work the field together for a few hours before the halfling decides it's time for a break. The two head towards the house where Qelline offers her friend some freshly baked bread, fruit, and tea.

"Sildar stopped by for a visit late last night. He said that you and your friends had rescued Gundren and he's planning on opening the lost mine. Would mean a great deal to Phandalin if that were to happen."

"I just hope he isn't rushing into things."

She goes on to tell the Barbarian of all of the rumors she's heard of the place including an infestation of undead and other dangerous creatures.
*** IN THE STREETS OF FALU ***
Wandering about looking for the others, Gerbo overhears a couple of people talking.

"Halia seems almost upset that the Redbrands haven't been around the last few days. They never messed with her anyway, but you'd think she'd be happy that they're gone."

Karma leaves the shrine saying thank you to the Sister. He then makes his way to Barthen's Provisions and speaks with Elmar Barthen. "Hey Elmer my man, I have two like questions." He beams his best persuasive smile, "First do you have equipment to repair stone walls and things. I am hoping to repair the shrine? And two do you have a decent replacement for me hammer, one that might help me hit things better?"

Gerbo slows a bit and decides to try to hear more about this Halia character. Trying to casually move a location out of their sight, but within earshot, he calmly leans against the wall, trying to look like he is waiting for someone.

Kerisha enjoys yet another lavish meal and talks with Qelline. "We save Gundren, now we help clear mine." Kerisha is particularly interested in all of the rumors of horrific monsters that are infesting the mine. The concerned stories from the halfling just fuel the half-orcs excitement at getting to battle with these creatures. She will intently listen for any advice on the mine that Qelline has, to gain any advantage with the layout of the mine (or any secret entrances that Carp may know), before bidding her friend farewell and heading back to the rest of the group.

*** AT BARTHEN'S PROVISIONS ***
Elmar smiles back, crossing his arms in front of this chest as he listens to Karma's request.

"The tools I can certainly help you with." he says and yells back to the storage area for Thistle to bring an array of different stone working tools.

"We usually don't carry weapons here, but it just so happens that a desperate traveler was looking for some gold and sold me this just yesterday."

He reaches below the counter and produces a very well maintained war hammer and offers it up for Karma's inspection.

"Looks to be brand new, if you ask me. It's yours for ten if you'd like it."

The hammer is a finely balanced war hammer that looks as though it's seen very little use. That fact that Elmar is willing to let it go for just ten gold most likely means that he is unaware of just what a fine weapon he's in possession of.

As Karma looks over the hammer, Thistle returns with an armful of tools and drops them across the counter.

"Take you pick of the bunch. On the house. Think of it as my thanks for dealing with those Redbrands."

"Hmmm... Omega Ale. I'd love to be able to stock some of their goods. Could make a killing!" she says quietly, looking over the two packages and counting up the coins, the woman takes two silver pieces.

"They'll be on the next wagon out. Anything else you need? You don't look like the weapons and armor type, but everyone can use something.

Unfortunately Qelline has very little more to add as far as details about Wave Echo Cave but she shares what she knows. It's clear after talking to the halfling that she is more than just a mere farmer in a small village. She always seems to know more of what is happening in and around Phandalin.

"Before you leave, take these. One each for you and your friends."

Qelline pulls out a small wooden box and opens the lid. Inside are four rings of differing sizes, each a smooth gold band.

"These will protect you and your friends."

Unaware that anyone is listening the two people continue their discussion about Halia.

Gerbo learns that Halia is the guild master at Phandalin Miner's Exchange which was just about the only place in town that the Redbrands kept their distance from. Rumor has it that Halia was considering taking over the leadership of the group of thugs for her own ends. Now that they're gone, she's actively trying to recruit any lowlife she can.

Gerbo casually walks away from the location and goes off to find his companions (checking the stores first, then going back to the tavern if he doesn't find them).

Karma eyes the hammer and feels it’s weight, he feels the positive mojo flowing around the weapon like an old friend. "This hammer needs some love so yes I will take it, and thank you for the tools." He picks through them taking what he requires, "These one’s will do. I will require this list of materials as well please."
Karma hands over a list to Elmer for raw materials and items he believes are required to improve the shrine. He then takes his leave to drop off the tools then precede to find his Uncle.

Kerisha cannot contain her happiness as Qelline presents the rings. She gives the halfling her heartfelt thanks and promises she will return to offer more help in keeping the farm. She also promises to bring Carp something special from the mine, with a wink and the ruffle of his hair.

Kerisha then puts on all the rings and screams I AM IMMORTAL!!! lol

"That's something that I might be able to arrange. In the mean time.this will conclude my business currently. I can see if any of the others may need for your wares."
Belanor puts the rest of the coins away. "Excellent, upon my return we can see about working out some barrels for delivery and perhaps a contract for that."

Belanor will wave and leave a Business card (if he has one). And leaves the building to find his company.
OOC:
idk if business cards are an established thing in this time and age xD
