🎲 An End to Dead Weekends?

There has been some chatter about weekend games and I was wondering who is interested in either playing or running such games? I know of at least two that started recently, so I was curious to see a show of hands and maybe a list could be made. My idea of a weekend game is posting seven days a week, or perhaps a few times during the week but also reliably on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Obviously, I am interested (surprise!). Who else is out there that suffers over the weekend?

chiming in just to say I am running one of the recently started weekend games. We only had one weekend so far, but it was a blast!
Nov 22, 2021 10:27 pm
I am just as available on the weekends as during the week, and I think I've still got the bandwidth to join another game as a player. Just waiting for the right game.

I'm definitely one of those who notices a huge drop in gaming productivity on weekends. That's really the time that I could sit around and F5 the dickens out of the site. Perhaps entirely contrary to the norm, the bulk of my availability is not 9-5, M-F.

I'd definitely be interested in a game that speeds up rather than slows down on the weekend.
Nov 23, 2021 3:13 am
I'd be up for a weekend game.
Nov 23, 2021 6:31 am
I would be interested in the new year, Christmas actives are starting to clog up my weekends
Nov 23, 2021 6:41 am
I like the idea of weekend games, since my weekends are often very quiet here. I joined Dr_B's game so I wouldn't necessarily want to take up a slot in another one that could go to someone else.
I have been planning to run a game again soon and could definitely qualify that as a weekend game when it happens. Maybe at some point in December or January
Nov 23, 2021 4:43 pm
I'd be interested also.

Having some speed up moment on a game instead of only slow down periods would be nice πŸ™‚
Nov 23, 2021 4:53 pm
Here's the list of weekenders so far:

Bowl
Rune
Qralloq
Witchdoctor
Tim Plausible
Dr B
Windy
TheVagrant
Phil_Ozzy_Fer
Squadfather44

Two games worth even! Maybe a game or two can startup in the new year unless people are hot to trot now. We only need system ideas and GM volunteers, and I bet more people will add their names as time goes on.

I might be up for running something based on either Loop/Flood or Smallville/Cortex, depending on what there is interest for.
There are some other things I'd be interested in looking at but those are the primary things (or at least first things to come to mind). I'll think about it for a bit and then might put out an early Interest Check to see what people would be most interested in.

Sounds great Bowl!
Nov 24, 2021 5:04 pm
I'm always around on the weekends, but I can't necessarily do a lightning-round equivalent of posting. I'd be up for weekends if it were a game I knew comfortably, i.e. played for more than a few posts. Having to wade through another rule book would unfortunately slow me down. There are definitely enough participants, but does anyone have any preferred systems?

I've been giving preference to OSR-games because of time constraints, but I'd be up for SWADE or something else. Ideas?
Nov 24, 2021 5:27 pm
Excellent. I have become a fan of OSR systems and I always enjoy a SWADE game. Easy character creation is my latest thing and I think I'm sticking to it.

What other systems are people thinking about? I know Bowl likes Loop and Smallville and I'm a fan of Loop too.
Nov 24, 2021 5:34 pm
SWADE is a pretty easy and fun system that I enjoy for sure. It's definitely my "not outstanding but also never really gets in the way either" system
Nov 24, 2021 7:47 pm
I've never played SWADE, but wouldn't mind learning it. I don't have much interest in OSR fantasy, but I have a weird soft spot for old-school sci-fi (Star Frontiers is my jam). I'm also a Powered by the Apocalypse fan (Masks and Monster-of-the-Week are my favorites).

But I'll play almost anything if the game concept sounds fun.
Nov 25, 2021 2:33 am
SWADE is great, I'm running and playing in a handful of those atm. Running a game of this would be straightforward for me, even with unseasoned learners at the table, it's not hard to grok.

As a player, Tales from the Loop/Things from the Flood are really great. Smallville/Cortex are on my 'want to give a solid go' list. But I'll literally play anything except AD&D 1/2e.
Nov 25, 2021 2:44 am
I do remember being quite intrigued by Smallville when I first encountered it, but I've never played it. Likewise, I have the Firefly (Cortex+) RPG , like it in concept, but have never played it. I made a character for a Tales from the Loop PbP game, made about 5 posts, then had the game die before anything of note happened.

Which is to say, all those are interesting.

Count me in! You always run a great game.

Would someone add me to the list of weekenders?

Done.

Who else would like to offer their GM services to this project, and what game system/s?

I might GM another weekend game after the current one is over - but I can really only run one game at a time.

Systems I like to run in PbF are SWADE and Cypher System, so far.
Nov 25, 2021 7:24 pm
At the speed that game is going, I don't blame you πŸ˜„
Nov 26, 2021 3:50 am
I would've been all over this a year ago when I was involved in more than 2 dozen games but finding the weekend too quiet. Nowadays I don't think I have the bandwidth to go beyond my current (playing in 2 campaigns & 1 vignette, and co-GMing 1).

Just had to chime in that I'm excited for the community that this is happening. Have fun, folks!
Nov 26, 2021 4:46 am
I'm definitely up for running something. Will post an interest check with some ideas soon (today or during the weekend)
Nov 26, 2021 1:14 pm
I'm in, if you are still open, lol
Nov 26, 2021 1:46 pm
I'll post some more concrete ideas too. I'm leaning toward a modern day urban fantasy SWADE game based on a setting called Fae Nightmares (a war between factions of magical beings).

I'll let you know more about it when I'm ready.

We should be able to get you in a game.

I've got two Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) game ideas. I'd be happy to run either for four people or so. The first would be more conducive to longer form, serious play, while the second would be a zany one-shot.
FAE NIGHTMARES
A Modern Urban Fantasy Role Playing Game with a North American Twist

Play characters who are becoming something less human and more like the beings found in stories; the Fae, monsters, gods, and everything in between.

Fae Nightmares is a Modern Urban Fantasy Role Playing Game setting for the Savage Worlds system. Fae Nightmares combines the Urban Fantasy genre’s roots in detective and horror stories, and the wonder and fear found in Fairy Tales. Players and GMs alike can draw from a wide range of legends and myths: from Celtic Fae to Native American stories; from urban myths to lumberjack tall tales. There are so many stories and inspirations that are ridiculously cool and just don’t get enough recognition!

In the midst of a shadow war between two Fae Courts in your own city, you are thrown into a world of extremes and contradiction where you must to adapt to a new reality, or perish.

The setting, Arden, was build in modular pieces so that you can play in Arden or your own home. Each sub-location has its own flavor and personality (and encounters), making a rich tapestry of locations. While set in a big city, the courts have more of a small community feel – the number of Fae and Nightmares measure in the hundreds. This, and the shape-shifting nature of many characters, have contributed to the setting being particularly gender neutral, queer & LGBT friendly.

TRAILER PARK SHARK ATTACK
You live in a trailer park, the place has flooded and now sharks ply the waters between your trailers.

The trailer park is flooded with sharks! Can you survive? Pick a character at random. If you get chewed in half by a shark, pick another β€˜Parker and keep playing.

TPSA! is a disaster shark adventure designed for use with Savage Worlds. In this fast, furious and fun adventure the GM gets to pick from three different scenarios and various scenes, complications and dilemmas to make your own special adventure in a flooded trailer park.

The adventure includes 8 incidents that the GM can weave into any of the three scenarios. Also, the Scavenging rules give the characters (we call them 'Parkers) a chance to find useful items in the flooded park. That is, 'Parkers willing to brave the shark-infested waters.
You can’t swim? You might wanna start sayin’ your prayers.

I'd like to play

I'd be up for the former but I'm in so many games with you already that others should probably get priority if there's enough interest. 'specially if I want to have room to run another game of my own in the near future.
Nov 28, 2021 11:08 pm
Well that went well, haha. Only two in any one suggestion. Perhaps we need to have a conversation about what would interest this group more.

Suggestions for a SWADE game?
Nov 29, 2021 12:14 am
That Trailer Park one sounds like good trashy fun for a one shot, in a good way πŸ˜‚
Nov 29, 2021 1:52 am
That was my thinking. It could be hilarious fun, but I'm open to any game honestly that doesn't take a day to make a character.
Nov 29, 2021 3:18 am
I think something sci-fi might be fun. We could probably run a pulpy old sci-fi game with SWADE's core book. I rarely venture into that territory, but I think it could work.
Nov 29, 2021 3:20 am
That sounds fun too!
Nov 29, 2021 4:05 am
Just to be a bit more specific, when I posted that about the sci-fi, what I had in mind was something akin to an old 1950's science fiction feature such as, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, or something along those lines. The players would take on the roles of everyday earthlings trying to subvert an extraterrestrial threat.

Not for nothin', I've heard pretty good thinks about the shark adventure...
Nov 29, 2021 7:39 am
I do love that kind of movie
Nov 30, 2021 2:42 am
All right, I'll toss up an interest check for Trailer Park Shark Attack, with an emphasis on weekend posting. You lot will get first kracken.
Nov 30, 2021 6:14 am
I put out a weekend IC as well. Weekends are saved now πŸ˜„
Nov 30, 2021 1:54 pm
Yay, it's a non-descript winter holiday miracle!
Nov 30, 2021 2:31 pm
Things got suddenly busy for me IRL, so I'm not going to take up slots in these games now. Maybe next game.
Nov 30, 2021 2:36 pm
There will be more
Dec 2, 2021 3:57 pm
Trailer Park invites sent out.
Jan 15, 2022 3:21 pm
The Trailer Park Shark Attack game is coming to a close. As such, a bunch of weekenders will be suddenly adrift with one less weekend friendly game.
Jan 15, 2022 3:25 pm
No. It can't be!
Jan 15, 2022 4:16 pm
Sharks ate the weekend game! 😱
Jan 15, 2022 4:36 pm
Holy Shark! Weeping Weekenders!
Jan 15, 2022 4:39 pm
Oh noes, did El Diablo Fuego outboard motor the game to death?! πŸ˜₯
Jan 15, 2022 4:42 pm
It was epic though!
Jan 19, 2022 8:48 pm
We are down one player and have one free spot on our Weekenders Monster Hunters Club game, a fast paced SWADE game about 11 year-old kids investigating mysteries in 1980s small town America.

The kids have become local heroes after their first case, and are getting involved in their second mystery...
