Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

Looking for a Dm to form a group to play D&D 5e / classic official story books.

For example: Tyranny of the dragons ( I have the book) or curse of Strahd.

Thank you

I'm still wrapping up this semester. I have finals. When I'm done with college stuff, I might try running a short run through a Saltmarsh adventure

Millyk, I would love to explore "Tyranny of the dragons" as a DM. Nevertheless but I have so I may be interested though, would you provide more details for me or any other potential DM:

Would you like to run through both books of "Tyranny of the dragons" in PBF mode? I guess it would take forever
Do you have whole team of players you know who are ready to play or would you still need to recruit?
Do you have any expectations for DM or preferred style of DMing? Do you like a DMs that inspire and help players escape battles doing anything crazy (even if it is silly) or you like DM that play enemies and evil NPCs like they are at least little bit smart, conditionally loyal and somewhat brave. Or you like to play with a hardcore DM to feel the real taste of victory, you have earned my playing really smart?

And just out of curiosity: Any reason you have exactly that book?

I am alone. I just have the book, because I liked it and to Dm in one point in real life. I was just thinking to play it as a player first. The type of dm..its up to him.... and mostly just following the book I guess... what is pfb mode ?

So, you have this idea of playing this sourcebook. Perhaps you might want to change your title or your post a bit to include that piece of information. (PbF- play by forum is another term for PbP- play by post and asynchronous play.)

With all due respect Milly

GamersPlane is a place for asynchronous play by post/forums.
You are welcome to try pbp of course.
Hope I didn't come off as discouraging and/or rude or anything. Not my intention.
Have fun.

yeah...whatever... I just wanted to find people to do this, if it takes years to do a book by posts, that's why I suggested things...

You're not wrong Milly, doing a big adventure in PbP will take years. If you're looking to do a voice chat game you should look into roll20's "looking for game" search engine. Looks like there are multiple Tyranny of Dragons games recruiting right now.

In general, it is against the rules of these forums to recruit people for off-site games. No harm done. Thanks for your understanding.

Oh ok thanks, I did not know that :-)

@Len I was just re-reading the guidelines and I'm not sure the rules are very clear on this. They specify competing pbp sites, but not other formats like voice or virtual table top, which I feel doesn't directly compete with GP. Also, it specifically says other sites can be discussed as long as you're an active member, which based on millyk's player profile seems to be the case (1 Active Game and >100 game posts).
Quote:
... if you join Gamers' Plane just to promote material on other play-by-post sites, I will just go ahead and ban your account. I don't mind people talking about other sites, if you're an active participant here.
If the rules are intended to restrict this type of post, I think they need to be reworded slightly.

That's fair feedback. I'll check in with the mod team and get a consensus.

Apparently the misunderstanding is mine @Chalrytharendir and @millyk ... it is apparently okay for established members to advertise for a roll20 game on forums. Sincere apologies.

Thanks for the clarification, Cheers!

oh ok cool... thank you guys :) but I do not think I can find people that are interested :-/ I think its hard to find a dm, that he is interesting to play a story by the book, many experienced ones they already played them maybe and they just like to homebrew....

Yea, I think your finding is why many of us are here, right?

DMing takes work, it takes time. Many ppl don't have much time to spare for it, for a variety of reasons that boil down to "life", right?

Buuuut... if you take that time investment and are able to stretch it out over days and weeks (like pbp does)? It becomes very manageable. And that's exactly what pbp does. It makes this hobby we all love, manageable, when it might not otherwise be for us.

There's really LOTS of DMs here.

As you found, you had at least two interested parties at the beginning of this post, and if you locked down a DM I guarantee the players for a group would follow shortly after.

So, I mean it looks like you are already giving pbp a chance, which is most excellent, but I guess point being there's a reason we're all here participating in this suboptimal (to some, but many ppl have found pbp to be their favorite type of play as they get into it) version of roleplay.

Pbp facilitates thoughtful roleplay and interaction and storytelling in a way that "live" play frankly can't ever match, I think, so I'd encourage you to try to embrace pbp for what it is. And p part of that, yes, is that it's slow going. BUT the going can be SO good. The many of us here find that trade-off to be worth it.

Particularly when the alternative may be, as you have found, no going at all.

Have you checked in with the first two respondents to your post who seemed interested in something like you were looking for?
Nov 30, 2021 5:19 pm
yeah...good points... I find it interesting to do dnd with posts, since I like writing and I can think and rewrite it to improve my roleplaying skill...
and yes its easier to find time this way and people writing in different time zones... but honestly I have not a lot of exp here and in one game that I am takes too long or on the other hand once I got kicked out, because I was late to response...so I havent found a good game for my standards yet here... thats why I wanted to try out the online... I already doing dm online one shots twice per month and in real life going on a session twice per month... I think the hard part is to find a dm interesting to this, as I said...maybe I was thinking to combine posts here and online session the battles once per month...it would be cool.... because I like the rp part by posts but the battle part on posts its not good for me.

Unfortunately, that is also a part of pbp, games and players and DMs can be hit or miss, some you'll vibe with some you'll get into and realize you don't, and any of them can end in a flash unexpectedly.

But that's also actually a part of IRL games often (if you're gaming with random strangers IRL) too in my experience, isn't it? Not something unique to pbp. It's just that in pbp you've possibly invested more time, not in aggregate, but in length of time spent hoping, lol so I think it can feel more crushing than "normal" games going bad.

I used to be like you, involved in 3 or 4 games IRL at my peak, then I took an arrow to the knee. Er wait, I mean, then I had kids. Same thing tho

Anyway, I hope you find something to your liking here. You seem reasonable, nice, and thoughtful. And the pbp/Discord mix sounds interesting to me. But even if that aspect doesn't work out, I think you'll be able to find an official module game pops up here sooner or later if you give it some time.

Good luck!
