"Uhh..." Tabat intones as the spirits materialize around him. He draws his khopesh, holding it at the ready while the spectral figures say words he cannot understand. "Anyone understand what these things are saying!?" he asks loudly, turning around in place so as to watch the ghostly scene play out.

OOC:
Since Abenor was a bit eager to investigate the place, I'll assume he was close enough to qualify for a Will save.

Great start! Now he'll probably run off from the scene lol

Rolls

Will Save - (1d20+2)

(2) + 2 = 4

Tabat does not succumb to the fear of the unknown, and steadfastly keeps his cool. Khadi as well doesn't panic and thinks she knows what this is.

Abenor, however, perhaps owing to it being his first foray into the necropolis, is unsettled by the apparition. He's shaken for one round.

Your are just shaken. There is no reason to run.

' A tragedy took place here. They were trying to defend the gates...some of the spirits still linger. A haunt if you would. These ones at least seem to go for our hearts and not body. If we steel our minds and walk we should not be harmed, and when this place is cleared I will try and find a way to put them to rest permanently. For now I fear I can only supress them'.

As she speaks Khadi walks through the gates to lead by example.

"An ill omen," Tabat says, "and a sad one. But I can confirm, as I stand in the midst of these apparitions, I do not feel any harm befalling my body. Stand tall and follow, friends!" He turns and presses further into the courtyard. "If this place fell to attack, that means bodies may have been left. We should be wary of further necromancy."

Iseret frowns in annoyance at the commotion but follows her fellows inside. The spirits leave her saddened, but not frightened, and she strides through their midst boldly. Once inside the gate, she turns her attention to the task of exploration. "I advise caution. Remember our first foray and the traps we encountered."

Abenor feels the fear forming inside his body, trying to take him down slowly. He resists it as best he can but he can't shake the feeling off, that someone or something will punish him for his disrespect. He restrains himself barely but still shaking from the encounter. He notices he is left behind a little and quickly makes his way to the nearest person to him, thinking if he's near them he wouldn't be hurt much.

Once you pass inside and are standing at least ten feet from the gates, the feeling of illease passes (as do any penalties incurred from a failed save).

The front courtyard has gates to either side (left and right) leading to further outdoor areas of the estate, but also a pair of double doors leading into the house.

Which way do you go? Normally, first to post wins, but I'll wait a couple hours to let any discussion happen.

'Should we make sure the grounds hold no surprises before entering in?
Feb 26, 2022 6:48 pm
"I was thinking the same thing," Tabat agrees, "It would serve to make sure our flank is secure before stepping inside." He gestures towards the eastern door, "Towards rising sun, then?"
Feb 26, 2022 6:49 pm
"I think we should first clear the outdoor areas before entering the building. We wouldn't want to be attacked from behind while we're exploring the inside, am I right?" says Abenor to the group with clear anxiety in his voice. He just recently got rid of that disturbing feeling that he will die here, he started to relax but still the fear of the unknown is waiting inside him.

Taking the suggestion to go toward the dawn...

You pass through the gate on the right. A spacious yard fills the compound east of the house. To the east, several small outbuildings have been built right into the compound's outer wall. A well stands tween two of these outbuildings, opposite a stone table, and benches that sit in the shadow of the house. To the west side, two sets of steps, both flanked by columns, lead up to doors into the main house. To the northwest, an open doorway leads into an extension of the house, next to a small structure with a domed roof.

Tabat quietly points to the closest outbuilding, south of the well and heads in that direction, slowly and carefully.
Feb 27, 2022 10:12 pm
The small, one-room structure is devoid of features, save the ruined remains of furniture that have all but disintegrated with the passage of time. Rusted metal hinges dangle where a door once hung.

Jaware and Isret hear something as you approach. The sound of breathing. It awakes, whatever it is, hidden within the outbuilding.

Initiative checks, please. Actually, I'll roll those.
OOC:
Jaware ties, but surfer is off for a few days, so we'll just skip him. That's fair, right?

A black-furred, two-headed dog as large as a horse with midnight-black eyes and tiny worms crawling on its mangy hide, darts out, snapping and snarling viciously at Tabat. It hits for 3 damage. Tabat needs to make a Fortitude save (DC 12).

Everyone can act.

Rolls

Secret Roll

Initiative checks: Tabat, Khadi, Jaware, Iseret, Abenor, Foe - (6d20)

(5121481318) = 70

Bite attack - (1d20+4, 1d8+1)

1d20+4 : (16) + 4 = 20

1d8+1 : (2) + 1 = 3

Feb 27, 2022 11:15 pm
Iseret attempts to slip into the shadows and sneak around behind the foe, if possible. If she is successful in getting behind the creature, she will attempt a sneak attack.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+12)

(7) + 12 = 19

Sneak attack - (1d20+5, 1d4+1d6)

1d20+5 : (5) + 5 = 10

1d4+1d6 : (2) + (4) = 6

OOC:
+2 for flanking gets you to AC 12. It's AC, however, is 13. Unless you missed a bonus for Isret somewhere, that's a near miss.
Feb 28, 2022 4:17 am
This poor animal, Tabat thinks as he unsheathes his khopesh. "I will put you out of your misery, beast!" he shouts, grimacing at its mangy, worm-ridden hide. His swing goes wide, however...

OOC:
So is this creature undead? How can we understand it during combat? Abenor has some bonuses against filthy undeads, so I must know :D But I won't add those bonuses to my rolls right now, but if it is undead and characters know it, it's supposed to give me +2 on both attack and damage rolll.
"Oh, here we go..." says Abenor as he takes his masterwork shortsword, aiming for the head closest to him, with the hope of beheading the creature.

(10) + 4 = 14

Shortsword damage roll (if hits) - (1d6+2)
