Sammy doesn't see much, but whatever he saw would have had a hard time getting over the wall. It's a good 12-15 feet high without any real handholds.

Javi runs his fingers on the vertical scratches on the mural. He then looks up at the top edge of the wall, in a moment when Wagner's powerful flashlight is shining that way. Could anyone - anything - climb that high, are there any marks?

With no handholds and that height, it would be difficult to scale. Certainly, none of you could without help and certainly not very quickly. Maybe if you pushed the trash bin down there and climbed up on it?

Sammy looks around the alley for something to climb up on . He's sure something came down this way. He looks at the large trash bin for the restaurant and hopes it's on wheels. "Help me push this over to the wall. I'll see if I can get up there. I've got to see if it somehow got around."
Feb 8, 2022 4:04 pm
Wagner puts away his pistol, holds the torchlight between jaw and shoulder and helps Sammy move the dumpster. "May I ask what is it that you saw? What type government experiment or secret monster have you seen disappear this way? Is it lupine in nature?" he grunts trying to push the bin - his joints aren't they used to be "Or this was just a pointless scare for us?"

Javier pushes the dumpster with his free hand, while leaning his weight against the crutch in his other hand.
What are we doing? It's a mural, we should just go back to the coffee shop and forget about it... he thinks.

"I don't know for sure what they are. My closest guess is a ghoul. They ... move differently. I can't explain it." Sammy jumps up onto the top of the dumpster and reaches for the top of the wall. "I guess they staggered, but they were also quick. They overtook Mark and I, but once one got him down the rest forgot about me." He pauses and looks down at the others. "I was running, man. All I could think about was 'get the fuck outta here!'." Turning back to the wall and reaching for the top. "I took one look back as I was kicking open the door and rushing down the flight of stairs to the exit ... they were eating him. They were fucken eating him. It's been in my nightmares ever since. What I saw tonight moved like one of those things. Maybe it's nothing, but I can't let it go." Sammy grabs the top of the wall and attempts to pull himself up.
OOC:
I don't know much about MotW, so I'm not really sure when I'm supposed to roll or really what I'm supposed to roll. I'm cool if you want to just roll for me to keep the action going. I'll react to the result, good or bad.

Sammy hauls himself up to the top of the wall, to view the alley on the other side. Much like the one they are in, it lies between two commercial buildings and leads out to the far street. He scans about, using his phone for light, but sees nothing unusual.

Sammy lowers himself back onto the dumpster and jumps down to the pavement. "Nothing there." He pulls at the bin to move it out of the way and takes a snapshot of the mural on the wall. "I'll do some research on this later. Maybe there's some information out there about it. It looks like some kind of call sign." He stuffs the phone back into his pocket and looks at the others. "Do you want to head back to the coffee shop or call it a night?"

OOC:
The creature is most likely not what Sammy is chasing. He's just got a focus on finding ghouls. I don't mind if there's no ghouls in this story, it's just backstory stuff. I just realized it looks like I'm directing the story that way.

He chuckles nervously. "Well, buddy, we all got a little rattled by that painted critter. I suggest not coffee, but a little booze to restore our... spirits?" he winks. "See what I did there?"
Feb 10, 2022 3:15 pm
Sammy smiles broadly "I'm always up for a beer. How about you OutThere? You up for a drink? Maybe we can find more information on this mural. There must be something on the 'net about it."
Feb 10, 2022 3:50 pm
"Yeah…" Wagner nods, wiping sweat from his brow "a drink would do just fine now." he is panting heavily after the excitement and effort. "Just remember…" he follows the two younger men to the bar "remember they can… ufff… they can track you on the web…" his usual paranoid comment trails off as he struggles to keep up, out of breath.

As the trio makes their way out of the alley and back onto the main street, they can see the flashing lights from the police cars still down the street in front of a tall office building (by Albuquerque standards), at what must be a crime scene. Sirens from an ambulance can be heard in the distance now.

"Let's make a pass by the accident over there. I want to see what's going on. Maybe there's some connection."

Sammy pulls his ball cap a bit lower and pulls his coat a bit tighter. It's an unconscious response to cops. He looks over the scene closely, trying to figure out what happened and who was involved. He tries to gather as much information as he can without asking any questions.

The smile on his face at the thought of some invigorating booze vanishes. He looks at Sammy. Seriously? This guy can't stand still..

"Are you sure you wouldn't rather...?" he tries to say, pointing at some bar on the main road. He leaves the question hanging for a moment.
Then he shrugs, and follows in Sammy's footsteps. "Alright, then..."

Wagner doesn’t quite trust the cops: they like to infiltrate positions of power, and law enforcement is a good target. He tries to make himself as inconspicuous as possible, but his rumpled suit and long silver hair make him pop among the t-shirts and hoodies of the other Cryptid fans.

Trying his best to blend into the crowd, he looks for any sign of the cops occulting evidence that this has been a supernatural sighting. He takes out his second-hand spycam bought on eBay, hoping to snatch a pic or two actually clear enough to see…

By the time Wagner, Javi, and Sammy make their way down the street, the gathering around the police line has grown to a substantial size. The three blend right in with the other looky-loos, weirdos, and drunks trying to get a look at what is going on. The area is well lit with police cars, CSU, an ambulance, and a fire rescue unit and the area surrounding the office building is cordoned off with police tape.
Wagner notices reporters are arriving and keeps his head low snapping pics through the crowd. Sammy pushes his way slowly to the front to get a better view, while Javi stays around the fringe. Two paramedics come out wheeling a gurney. There is a body on it with the sheet pulled over its head.

As usual at these scenes, there are already rumors flying and wild speculation about what is going on.

"I heard it was a robbery."
"I heard some dude was working late and had a heart attack."
"I heard the janitor slipped while waxing the floor. Broke his neck."
"I heard it was a jealous husband. Caught his wife cheating."

Javi cranes his neck to try and look past the crowd to catch more details. He looks at the body on the gurney, trying to spot if there are traces of blood, or other tell-tale clues as to the cause of death.

He also tries to engage in conversation with the gossiping crowd. "Any idea who found that poor guy?"
