Would anyone be interested in running GURPS 4E Fantasy? I really want to play, but I'm not wanting to run it.

oh man
oh man
I don't want to
but I want to
but I shouldn't
...
...

How much interest would there be in this?

EDIT: I shall call this small, unintentional poem An Ode to Qralloq.

I'd be interested, depending on the scope. I've long wanted to learn to play GURPS, going back to the 90s, and have yet found a good reason to do so.

What scope are you interested in?

To potentially help fill this out, these are people who I have yet to play with that say they're interested in or have experience with:
-- GURPS
-- beginner-friendly games
-- 'anything'

@McButterpants @JoshuaMabry @Kyre @SurferofSaragar @Wolfiedabs32 @Director_of_the_ALC @Ganesh @eclectic.samurai @la__rose

I have been interested in learning the system for awhile now but have heard that it is a challenge in a PBP setting. I'd like to give it a shot though if you'll have me.

I'd be most interested in a game with a definite end point in mind, rather than an ongoing perpetual campaign.

I think that'd be best as well, given that no one's played it in so long. After we do an adventure, we can decide if anyone wants to continue.

So we have WhtKnt, Windyridge, and Qralloq so far. I could run with three. GURPS doesn't really do encounter balance anyway. But lets give it a day to see if anyone else wants to jump in. I'll start setting things up on my end.

As part of that...

What type of Fantasy are we going for? You can say just dark or light, or high or low, but those don't always mean the same things to everyone, so the more detailed the better. Are there things you want to see? Are there things you don't want to see?

p.s. High fantasy usually means more powerful people in my opinion and in GURPS, where you have to build your character, that can mean longer build time. For this reason I'd prefer low fantasy, or at least mid.

This is so tempting... Qralloq and I were talking a while ago about wanting to try GURPS and now here it is...

I'm testing this: http://jamesturneronline.net/gurps4e-character-builder/ It seems to do everything needed, but I can't be 100% sure. Still poking it.

EDIT: It works, but it doesn't have any of the game data in it, so it'd still be a lot of typing. I think we'll be better served by running through character creation manually.

I'm personally more interested in high fantasy, but do enjoy dark, low, and even punk.

I prefer low fantasy, Q. Wanna fight me?

I agree about character creation and doing it the long way in order to learn the system better I think.

Thanks for thinking of me. I’ve running two games right now and playing in another. This is very tempting as I’m a big fan of GURPS, but I don’t think I can split my attention this much.

I should change my looking for game status.

I appreciate the ping, but I don't do low fantasy after traumatic personal experiences with it, so I can't really help ya with this one.

Let's do it like this. I have several stories I could run. Which one do you like the idea of most?

Which scenario would interest you the most?

A perfect, untouched city has been discovered deep underground—a city created to honor a legendary dwarven clan. No one lives there... but as you’ll learn, that doesn’t mean it’s deserted. Can you explore the city on behalf of the dwarves, or will you too become part of its buried history?
The Great Mage War left the lands of the west a desolate wasteland filled with deadly arcane detritus. Several months ago a band of adventurers stole a magic item of great value and escaped toward the Ironcrags in their airship. But a storm drove them to the ruined city where the Great Old One Anax Apogeion, The King Far From Earth, hangs in stasis. The crew went mad, and the airship crashed. You’ve traveled on horseback deep into this desolate realm on a mission to retrieve the item from the airship’s wreckage.
Strange things are afoot in Eidolan, City of Lanterns. Some claim to have seen zombies lurking in the shadows, others claim to have seen mysterious hooded mages gathering under lantern-light on street corners. Whispers say that something big will happen soon, but what is it and can it be stopped?
Two competing empires have both discovered legends of a lost city with vast arcane powers. Both have sent armies to claim it, and you were a part of those who were sent. But last night, the sky turned white and everything outside the city... changed. Hills were thrown up into mountains. Mountains were toppled. Rivers changed course. Now the only thing that matters is getting home, wherever that is.
None of these are good. I have a better idea!

If you still need another, I'd be down :)

I like the sound of the mage war.

I've played GURPS since the 90's & I'd throw in if you need another body. Low Fantasy is the better option in a short term game just to learn the ropes/ get a feel for the system. Fewer bells & whistles to distract from the core of the game.

I'd love to observe here. GURPS was my mainstay for more than 10 years, but I left it behind when I switched to PbeM / PbP play in the mid 90s...
