I'm curious how many people would be interested in playing FIASCO in PbP?

For anyone not familiar, Fiasco is a GM-less TTRPG that his basically 100% roleplaying/collaborative storytelling. There is no number crunching - when we roll the dice its to determine our characters' relationships, needs, objects, locations - and eventually fates.
Quote:
Fiasco is a game inspired by cinematic tales of small-time capers gone disastrously wrong – particularly films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. Fiasco lets players tell stories that exist at the darkly comic intersection of lust, greed, and fear. You’ll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution.

It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably collapse into a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started.
I highly recommend Wil Whedon's Tabletop game as an introduction to the concept. It might be a bit difficult to pull off in PbP - but I'm going to be working on a way to make the scenes asynchronous. Also, because they're no GM, it's important to have players that are creative, cooperative, and proactive to play. In a way, since there is no GM, it's like we're all co-GMs.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm bad at making polls or they're broken, so here's the list of potential playsets in text form here:

Awesome! Thank you!

From your mention of dice, I presume you are using the original ruleset? I've been playing the 2019 version which is entirely card based and instead of dice the success or failure of scenes is determined by the players.

I'd be up for any of the Real World playsets!

I have done Fiasco PbP, it has the potential to work well. As you say scenes can run concurrently if they don't (or until the do) affect each other.

I have found that with all 'No-GM' games, someone needs to take on the responsibilities a GM usually does. 'Everyone is a GM' is a lofty goal, but can be problematic. This is even more true in PbP where it can be hard to know if things have stalled or if you have lost people or if everyone is waiting for everyone else.

The 'setup' can take a very long time in PbP, but it is a large part of the game in any medium.

I am using Classic, but I believe the success and failure of a scene is still determined by the players! The dice just take the place of drawing cards.

Would love to try the channel 6 news scenario once the CoC game is over. I haven't played Fiasco, but I've been curious about it.

Thinking that Polls might be a useful tool in a FIASCO PbP, to speed up certain decisions, perhaps?

Of the Real World playsets, maybe the least interesting for me would be the Saturday night one.

Yes, I definitely think I'll use polls for scenes so the players can vote on positive or negative outcomes. I'll probably still have that in an OOC area and just have people make sure to read the scenes and vote.

I think Channel 6 is the only one with a vote at the moment. Is there anyone opposed to doing News Channel 6?

Not here, it sounds like it would be a blast!

I know that the management of everything has to fall to someone, and I’ll be the one explaining the rules, but I meant everyone is a GM in the sense of describing the environment and determining results. Basically I’m more or less like the person in charge of looking up and explaining board game rules on game night - there’s no GM in Monopoly but it’s easier to have one person read/explain the rules to the group than it is for everyone to do so independently.

In a GMless game there’s no one to ask "do I have this/do I see this/is there...?" because you’re making up the environment an everything in it yourself. That’s going to be a hurdle for anyone used to only playing TTRPGs. Usually they have someone to tell them where they are, what they see, and even what the goal is - in a GMless game you have to be able to do that yourself.

Likewise games usually have one person determining the results of a scene, while in Fiasco it’s a collective decision. It’s also a subjective one rather than one determined by numbers - people who have only been players, or very by-the-numbers GMs might have some trouble adjusting to a system where you just say if you THINK a scene would have a positive or negative outcome.

That’s what I meant - that a GMless game just requires more out of its players than a game with a GM does.

I'd be interested, and News Channel 6 is one that I haven't yet read or played.

Nine players is far too many for one game, so I think we'll need to run two.

News Channel 6: WhtKnt, Dr_B, NABO, TheGenerator

Along with letting me know which playset you prefer, could you let me know your posting time preferences/timezone? Scenes are pretty quick and, aside from the establishing posts, should probably only be one to two sentences long. An example of this is:

I'm Data, I'm in CST (GMT-6), but my times to post are usually between 10pm and 3am CST.

This could be helpful with placing people in groups/scenes who's posting times match up, so there's not too much waiting.

Yup, I'm up for News Channel 6. I'm in GMT+1 and I mostly post in the evening but it can be a bit all over the place. Can agree to a specific posting time if necessary

Up for News Channel 6! I'm in GMT and can post from 9pm to Midnight GMT.

I should probably bow out; the timing is off. I have a major job interview this week, the kind that takes all day over multiple days. It means I wouldn't be able to join the fun until next weekend. It looks like that timing's off, so I may just observe the two games, assuming they're public.

I'm in CST (GMT-6) as well. I usually post in the evenings, between 9 PM and 12 AM local, but I might be able to squeeze in some other times as well.

I voted yes above, but then this weekend some real life stuff happened so I should be careful to sign up for more games until thing normalize. Would be very excited to read it though.

I used this tool in the past, pretty handy to compare timezones etc.
