Descending the Temple Depths

There seems to be a lot of traffic with the path that good old Rook created, I wonder if there's another way. . .

Dirk walks over to the wall to see if he can find another safe, "trap-free" path along the wall to the other side of the antechamber.

Using "Lucky" special ability to turn the miss into a partial success.

Roald is moving around Deoring to get a better position on his left side. Giving the captain a chance to attack from the right.
He is careful but the floor is tricky.
He then lashes out at the moving skeleton parts.
OOC:
As usual, I'm not certain if I used the correct modifiers for my rolls.

Rolls

Moving to a better position +dex - (2d6+1)

(42) + 1 = 7

Attacking the skeleton +str - (2d6+1)

(41) + 1 = 6

Damage+skirmish - (1d6+1)

(1) + 1 = 2

Albert stands by Rook, guarding him from the fight that may be heading their way. "We're in this together, Rook. I'm not planning on letting anything set off this trap until we find a way to get you off safely." He looks over to the other skeletons by the door and then scans the vegetation around Rook's location, trying to see if any of it is showing signs of movement. "If there are more of these things down here, I'll make sure they don't knock you off that switch."

Rolls

Looking for movement (+wis) - (2d6+2)

(53) + 2 = 10

- Dirk -

Some 'long-forgotten' tidbit about 'drow traps' surfaces in your memory. You are pretty sure any other route will be riddled with trap-triggers, similar to what Rook found. The only 'safe' way forward is the path he cleared.

Which means the captain is in real danger of making things worse as she makes her way round the bottleneck to the action.

What do you do?

With Roald now having moved around to Deoring’s left wielding his glowing sword and the Captain approaching on his right, Deoring catches his breath and steels himself. As the skeleton slowly rises on one knee, he aims his own (non glowing) sword low to try to sweep that bony leg out from under it.

Rolls

Attack the skeleton down low +0 STR - (2d6+0)

(42) = 6

Damage (if relevant) - (1D6)

(1) = 1

- Roald -

The churned up ground is soft and you footing difficult --and every step needs the focus of feeling for trap movement deep beneath as well-- but you are able to clear a space for Deoring to manoeuvre.

Once upright the skeleton is faster than you would have expected, and, as it dodges out of the way of your blade, it reached its hand into its fetid chest-cavity and flings the contents at your face.
OOC:
You have a chance to avoid the thrown threat. How do you do it? Do you, maybe, dodge (+DEX), or stand and take it (+CON)?

- Deoring -

You sweep the leg and the skeleton goes down --significantly reducing its mobility for as long it remains prone. As it falls it lashes out with one if its feet, striking you on the armour just above your hip.

Rolls

Flailing Skeleton Damage (remember to subtract Armour) - (1d6-1)

(2) - 1 = 1

Roald takes a sidestep to manoevre around Deoring. His eyes already on the threat ahead he prepares himself for striking. Roald's arm goes up, his muscles tense, I'll show this creature... Just before striking a mighty blow something beneath his left foot starts to shift. A big patch of moss dislodges from the stone he is standing on, his foot slides backwards and his sword cuts a hole in the air.
Roald feels something soft touching his face.

Rolls

getting hit by skeleton goo +con - (2d6)

(35) = 8

- Roald -

A moment of nausea passes over you as the stuff gets in your system. Your vision blurs a bit, but you are sure you can shake it off in round or two if you can get the gunk off you face.

Albert scans the room for more threats, but doesn't seem to spot any. The skeletons over by the door aren't stirring. Are they not going to activate or just waiting for the opportune time to strike? He gets a gnawing feeling in his stomach, something doesn't add up. Why is only one skeleton assaulting them when there are obviously more?

He lifts his broom up high, the glowing end pointing to the ceiling, and says in a strong voice "By Raynor's fire I demand you show yourselves! His light will reveal the dark threats that roam this chamber!", hoping that Raynor will lend him the power to see any oncoming threats.

Rolls

Praying to Raynor (+CHA) (possibly turn undead?) - (2d6+1)

(62) + 1 = 9

- Albert -

Light briefly sparkles off your staff and snakes out towards the active skeleton. Additionally: Thinner, less active, tendrils snake towards the skeletons posted by the doors. Even fainter tendrils also snake out behind you, back the down the corridor you you came through, as well as down the other corridors leading from this room.

Everyone can see these light-tendrils --unlike the dark ones from before that only you could see-- but only those paying attention in the moment are likely to notice that similar light-snakes emanate from the scabbard of Rook and Asha beside you, and Roald and Dirk's weapons.
Apr 3, 2022 2:49 pm
Albert looks up and follows the tendrils of light to the different directions with his eyes. "Rook, Asha, are you seeing this too? Raynor is telling us where the threats are. And from the looks of it, some are behind us, where we came from." He turns his head to the hallway behind him, but it's too dark to tell if anything is coming from over there. "What do we do?"
OOC:
So besides the visible bones by the door, there are no tendrils going to other moss-covered skeletons we can't see yet in the room?

Dirk immediately sees that the Captain was probably walking to an uncertain doom, so he cries out; "Stop Captain! You're about to step on a trap!"
Apr 4, 2022 1:13 pm
The captain says a bad word. "... But..." she objects, motioning to the attacker, and indicating the fact that the 'cleared path' is obstructed by people.

Then she sighs, lifts her foot away, and hops over behind Rook. It really looks like she wants to ask him 'can you move?', but knows better than to argue with the experts. Instead she changes her grip on her sword to increase her reach and waits for an opening --wishing she had a bow.
Apr 4, 2022 2:53 pm
Roald loses his footing while missing the skeleton. Already on his hands and knees the dreadful stench of the gunk on his face enters his nose.
His stomach turns upsidedown and it's content get sprayed all over the place. Roald tries to look around, but everything is a blurr. He grabs a patch of vomitty moss and starts wiping his face as good as he can. Now smelling both the skeleton and the vomit... He barfs again, but at least his vision is coming back.
In an effort to protect himself from another attack he crawls a few steps back and takes a fresh patch of moss to clean his face.
Apr 5, 2022 10:56 am
Noticing the captain's silent complaint about the 'traffic jam' in front of her, Albert takes a step back to allow her to pass before moving back to his previous position.
Apr 5, 2022 11:41 am
Being careful to not bump Albert off the narrow path, the captain squeezes past and moves up to Rook's position. Not willing to go further without instruction she hovers near the thief, waiting for further developments.
Apr 5, 2022 9:37 pm
"I apologize for being in your way, dear captain," Rook says dryly. "If you'd like to place your foot right here, I would have no objection to stepping out of your way..." He gives a wary eye towards the rising skeletal threat.

And then a thought strikes him. "Better yet, give me your extra dagger, or whatever small blade you have. I'm sure you carry one." He takes the thin blade and tries to wedge it into the crack in the stone work, keeping the trigger in place.
Apr 5, 2022 9:51 pm
- Rook -

"Hmm? Ah, yes, of course." The captain --transitioning from sceptical to relieved at merely losing a precious dagger instead of risking her foot-- hands over a simple blade from her belt.

She keeps an eye on the action as she does so. "Tell me if I need to do anything." She offers hesitantly. "Or when I can move forward."
OOC:
Jamming the trap sounds like a Tinker roll, probably +DEX? (Though, the stat depends on how you describe it and what your intent is.)
Apr 5, 2022 10:13 pm
"This shouldn't take but a moment. How safe the ground between here and there is, I have no clue." He deftly slides the blade into the gap, using it as it widens as a wedge. He works it back and forth, feeling around and making sure it was wedged in. It might not hold forever, but hopefully it should be good for a bit. "As for when you can move, you should be ready to go... now!" And with that he dives off the tile, leaping quickly backwards to ground he's already cleared.

Disable Trap with DEX - (2d6+2)
