Are these skeletons getting faster? This one certainly got up faster than the first one --but then this one was not buried in moss. It also seem to effortlessly hop over your low sword swing, lashing out with a backhand aimed at your unarmored face.

What do you do?

Rook, who had stumbled a bit from the force of the blast, regains his footing and has a wide grin on his face and holds his hands high in victory. Instead of cheers of approval however, he heard only the shouts of the others still battling for their lives with the remaining dead bones. A mix of irritation, chagrin, and embarrassment warred on his face as he saw the faces of Asha and the captain, and lowered his arms as the captain stared him down for a moment before she rushed into the battle. "Well, I thought it a worthy victory..." he muttered to himself.

He heard a cry of pain as Roald was struck, then his eyes fall on the bartender turned priest trying to free himself from the vaporous corruption. He sprang forward, trying to grab the other's collar and pull him free of the fray.

An icy skeleton hand hits Roald in the face with much more force than he would've expected. Already on his knee, the ground is not very far and he hits his head on a rock. For a split second everything goes black. The first thing he sees after he opens his eyes, is the skeleton looming over him. The only thing Roald can do is stomp his foot against the skeleton's knee.

By the time Rook reaches him, Albert is already free of the scrum, though still hacking and wheezing. He sees Roald fall and hears his shout. Snatching up the priest's broomstick, he slides in low. He's not a warrior, and this is not a weapon, so he hopes knavish trickery will work instead. He uses it as a broom - jabbing the bristled head between the creature's bony legs and trying to sweep it's feet forward at the same time Roald kicked backward on it's knee.

Albert is having a hard time keeping up with the goings-on of battle. He sees his friends darting from one side of the room to the other. An explosion happens near the other door and he sees Rook heading towards him and bending over facing Albert. Albert reaches out with his hand so Rook can help him to his feet, but it looks like he's misread the situation.

Moments later, Rook is running to Roald's aid with Albert's weapon. He's a bit peeved about it at first, but when another wave of coughs finds him, he realizes the broom is more useful is someone else's hands right now. Please just be careful with that, Rook. It's like an heirloom to me.

The lightweight skeleton is no match for your shoulder rush. It seems to elongate for a moment as it is propelled backwards many paces, to end up lying in a heap, unmoving.

You have bought yourself the time you need for your experiment... but the subject of that experiment is snatched away before you can reach it. To continue, you will still have time to join Rook in his defence of Roald, but the staff is dancing around and will be hard to get a hand on right now.

Staffless, Albert is wheezing and spluttering just behind you. Roald has taken what looked like a rough blow, and you know how effective Albert's healing magic can be in such situations.

What do you do?

The skeleton recoils from the contact with the glowing staff --it definitely does not like that-- and tries to take a step back, but its legs are tangled, preventing retreat, so it takes a swing at Rook with its green-verdigris-encrusted sword.

Roald's stomp knocks it off balance so it misses, but it quickly winds up for another strike which will be hard for Rook to defend against from his position. Before that can land the captain flying-tackles the monsters, scattering bones as she passes through the space they occupied. Whether this one was less tightly-wound, or if the prolonged contact with the staff loosened its bonds, you can't be sure, but it appeared to come apart easier than the others.

Ribs are scattered around, but the separated top and bottom half still attempt to act against you, trying to both crawl back together and lash out at anyone who comes near.

The captain sits huddled on the floor, her teeth chattering from the cold that enveloped her. "I don't recommend doing that she stutters." Trying to stand.

What do you do.

Roald tries to get up... Once again. But now that help has arrived and the adrenaline fades, he feels his strength flowing away. The cold is back and his head starts pounding. Sitting half upright using his sword as a support he says:'' The head Rook! Go for the head!''

Deoring straightens up after knocking the skeleton down, a bit amazed how well that worked. Thanks, Raynor! he realizes.

He lets out a gasp as he sees Roald, down on one knee, get clocked hard by the other skeleton and knocked on the ground. He turns back towards Albert just in time to see Rook take the glowing staff and run to Roald’s aid.

"Albert, did you see how hard that skeleton hit Roald? He may need you to call on Raynor for some healing. Here, let me help you up."

Deoring steps over to Albert, extending his hand to help him get up.

Albert takes Deoring's hand and slowly gets to his feet. "Thank... you." He manages to say. With the skeleton pushed back, and his head no longer right above the mushroomy floor, Albert can finally take some breaths of 'fresh' air. As far as that's possibly down here.
He takes a swig of his water skin. That was the last of my water.

Finally calmed down and able to breathe normally, Albert takes a minute to assess the situation. "Deoring, I think there are still some skeletons somewhere behind us. In the hallway we came from. Don't forget to keep an eye on that spot."

"I'm going to stay away from the spores for a bit." He grabs the sling that was tied around his waist and gets ready to launch a projectile at any skeleton still standing.

Taking both Roald and the captain's words to heart, Rook swung wildly between prayers and curses often in the same breath. He swung the glowing broomstick wildly, trying to keep the distance of the handle between him and the bloodlusted torso, jabbing away like a spear.

The skeleton --or its bits-- definitely doesn't like that rod of light you are swinging around (is it your imagination or does it sorta go 'hrummm, hrummm' on each swing?), and seems more focused on staying away than on pulling itself back together.

With a flash of light the tip of the stick strikes the skeleton's head... and disintegrates it, turns it to dust. For a few moment the torso and legs twitch before ceasing their movement and lying still, barely held together by plant matter.

In this room there is only one whole skeleton --struggling to rise from where Deoring shoved it flying. But there is also a possibly unheard scraping sound from the blast crater where you left two smoking piles earlier.
OOC:
Does anyone notice the potential return of the blown up skeletons? Maybe roll for it.

Deoring’s eyes grow large and wide as he sees Rook so easily dispatch it with Albert’s broomstick staff. "Wow! Raynor’s fire! That’s the key!"

Deoring, heeding Albert’s warning, casts a quick glance back toward the hallway we came in from. Not seeing anything there, he looks back and sees the skeleton he just knocked over struggling to get back up.

"Way to go, Rook! I knocked down this other one, but it’s starting to get back up. Quick, do that again!"

To Albert, he says, "If you need more water, I still have some, but I really think Roald needs your help."
Apr 20, 2022 2:33 pm
Albert is about to reach for a stone to load his sling with when Deoring mentions helping out Roald. He looks over that way as he thinks Help Roald? I thought Rook just took care of that. But then, with the flickering of light from where some skeletons exploded, he notices the blood dripping down Roald's neck from a gash made by the rock he hit. "Oh no! Roald!" With sling in hand, he rushes over to Roald.

Once there, he kneels over Roald and grabs a cloth from his backpack to staunch the bleed. "Hold still, Roald. You're going to be okay." He starts to say a prayer to Raynor. "Raynor, please lend me your strength to help a friend in need, so we can keep cleansing this temple in your name."

Roald feels a warm sensation flowing from Albert's touch to the tip of his toes. '' Thank you Albert, Raynor truly is a mighty god''
He then notices Rook with Albert's glowing staff.
hmmm that's weird, the staff keeps glowing even when Rook is holding it...I should discuss it with Deoring later.
He takes a few moments to gather his strength and stands up.
''Do you have still have some fighting in you Albert? There's only one more to go!''

"Yes, I'm back in somewhat fighting form. But I fear that more skeletons are heading our way from the hallway where we entered this room. Don't celebrate just yet." Albert tells Roald as he helps him back onto his feet. He turns to Rook "You seemed pretty capable with a staff there, Rook. I didn't know that about you. You're not hurt, are you?" He asks in a friendly yet concerned way.

Deoring, seeing that Rook is still tied up with Roald and now Albert, figures he’s going to have to deal with this "last" skeleton himself, or at least keep it down until help arrives.

He steps over to the skeleton as it is now shifting from being in all fours to on one knee. Not wanting to touch it with his hands, he kicks at it from the side, hoping to knock it over.

Your kick knocks the skeleton over again, but also chills your foot right through your boot.

If you work to keep it down and helpless long enough for your companions to surround-and-pound, you are sure you will end up with something akin to frostbite. Or, you can back off and hope they can get to you before the skeleton is able to fight back.

'' let's get these bastards!''
Roald tries to sound firm and determined to give his companions (and mostly himself) some courage.
He marches, sword in hand, towards Deoring
OOC:
If there is an opportunity to attack that skeleton, Roald will go straight for the head.
Apr 21, 2022 9:43 pm
After kicking the skeleton over, Deoring hops back awkwardly, his foot chilled to the bones. Relief washes across his face as Roald strides up.

"Get it, Roald! I’m going to see if Raynor will allow my sword to glow. It’s useless against these things!"

Deoring looks back again at the doorway to see if the threat Albert was concerned about has appeared. He heads toward Rook and Albert to see if he can attract Raynor’s fire to his sword. As he walks, he stamps his foot to try to shake off the cold and glances around to check on Roald.
OOC:
Unsure if the glancing around would trigger a chance to notice the skeletons emerging from the crater. But he is looking in three directions: towards the doorway, towards Rook and Albert, and back towards Roald. I’m not clear where the crater is in relation to any of us.
