Descending the Temple Depths

Rook is probably the most surprised of all when his wild swing destroys the creature, but after a moment of consternation, he tries to play it off smoothly. He looks over to Albert complimenting him on his (admittedly unlikely) victory "Well, uh, I mean... hurt? Tis but a scratch! The Tiger they called me back home, as I felled foes left and right with flashing blade."

He lobbed the staff back to Albert with a grin; braggadocio and swagger were part of the style he tried to project. "I used the staff rarely, and the broomstick even less often, but it was at hand and so was I, and now the dead man is but a pile of bones again. My third of the day!" He paused a moment, then reluctantly admitted "Raynor helped, of course."

He suddenly pauses as the other part of what Albert says penetrates; more of the walking dead coming from behind. "And as we speak of Raynor, my friend priest, can you not drive these things back as you did upstairs? I mean, you are here on His work, surely He'd see the need?"

Albert catches the broom with one hand, trying to look coy, just like Rook, but most likely failing at it. He was never a military man. As soon as he touches the staff, a comforting feeling flows through him. He hadn't noticed that feeling going away earlier, but now it's definitely noticeable that it was gone.

He nods to Rook "Yes, now that I can breathe again, I think I can try it." and puts his sling away again. Now that he has his trusty staff again, he prefers to use that. Albert looks around and see only one skeleton remaining. I think Roald's got that one covered for now, but I need to know what's happening with the ones we haven't seen yet.

Once more, he raises his broom handle up high and gives prayer to Raynor. "God of conquest, our victory is at hand! Let your guidance descend upon me to find the remaining evil, lurking these hallways. Let your light show us the way."
OOC:
I'd like to get those light tendrils again to see if the faint ones have gotten any brighter, which would mean the danger is on its way. As a side effect, it would alert Albert to the re-assembling skellies already in the room.

- Albert -

A web of light, for all to see, pulses out from your- and your companions' glowing weapons, lancing out to indicate the threats.

The difference between the two 'dead' skeletons and the still active one is quite clear. However, that also reveals activity from the ones Rook is boasting about blowing up, apparently fire and force are not enough to end their unlife, and they are starting to pull themselves back together in the moss-crater left by the explosion.

If you are reading the thickness indicators right the threats from down the open corridors are drawing nearer, but still less than halfway here. If you act quick you will be able to deal with the skeleton's in this room and then prepare for any new arrivals.

Not knowing whether the thickness takes twists and turns into account --though it appears it does since it curves out through the doors-- makes it tricky to judge, but you might be able to predict which will arrive first and set an ambush or move to attack.

What do you do?

Roald hesitates as he gets closer to the remaining skeleton and notices that Deoring is backing away in his direction. With every step he takes he feels his new found courage seeping into his shoes. Weighing down each single step.
A burst of light sprouting from his blade toward the skeleton stops him. Roald is half expecting for the skeleton to explode in a thousand pieces, but when no such thing happens he decides to take a defensive stand and wait for Deoring to reach him.
Apr 22, 2022 4:38 pm
Deoring walks briskly up to Albert and Rook.

"Albert, it seems that everyone who has held your staff, imbued with Raynor’s fire, has their own weapon blessed by Raynor. My sword has no effect against these foul skeletons, but with Raynor’s blessing, I hope to help you rid this temple of these unnatural beings. May I hold your staff for a moment while we say a prayer to Raynor?"
Apr 22, 2022 5:00 pm
When Deoring reaches Roald he starts talking. ''Are you alright Deor...''
But his friend walks right passed him.
Roald finds himself in an awkward position between the skeleton and everyone else.
He puts his left foot forward, bends his legs slightly and raises his sword.
''allright then, let's see what you've got''
OOC:
any help is welcome at this point 😉

Albert, with his staff still raised up high, is inspecting the light trails that flow off of it when he hears Deoring's question. He snaps out of the concentration and replies. "Is that what's making everyone's weapon glow?" He thinks back to all the situations where he askes someone to hold his broom for a bit.It does add up. "Yes, be my guest! Here, hold this while I go and get the captain up." He hands Deoring the staff and heads over to where the captain is shivering.

Holding out a hand, he helps her back onto her feet "Are you alright? Hurt at all?" After hearing her response, he continues "Captain, Roald is fighting one skeleton, the other two that exploded seem to still have some life left in them, and there are a few heading our way from that corridor." He points to the spot where they entered the room in the first place. "Can you rally the troops, as they say, and get us fired up for the finisher?"
Apr 23, 2022 10:09 pm
Deoring accepts the staff from Albert, his eyes wide with wonder. "Th-thank you, Albert", he stammers out. He closes his eyes and in a quiet voice recites the prayer to Raynor that Albert taught him, to the best of his memory.

"When it's help that I need
And my way is lost indeed
I will surely be okay
Raynor's fire will light my way"

Deoring opens his eyes, pulls his sword out of its worn and cracked leather scabbard, and to his delight and astonishment, his father's sword now glows with Raynor's fire. He falls to his knees and holding both staff and sword up high, he shouts,

"Raynor, god of fire, god of conquest, I pledge to rid this place of these foul creatures!"

Aware of the continuing threats, he quickly stands back up. As he rushes to catch up to Albert to return his staff to him, he wipes his suddenly teary eyes on his sleeves.
Apr 23, 2022 10:31 pm
The captain takes Albert's hand as he helps her stand.

"J-just c-cold..." She says in answer to his question about her wellbeing. Albert might notice that she does not actually feel cold to the touch.

"I..." She hesitates. "I am not equipped to handle this." She waves her hand at the skeleton dancing with Roald, and whole situation --so outside of her normal controlled and regimented lifestyle.

"Maybe you should..." She starts to say, but then Deoring lets out his shout and she jumps, looking over to what he is doing. "Wait... is that all it takes...? May I..." She says --slightly shyly-- reaching for the offered staff.

As her drawn sword lights up she seems to shrug off the effects of the grave-cold and regain some of her commanding demeanour. She does some quick calculations before calling out:

"Everyone! To Roald! Work as a Group: Kill it," She indicates the standing one by Roald, "then finish Rook's ones!"

"Asha! Move your ass! The best cure for fear is killing the thing you are afraid of!" She calls as she strides over to help Roald, but her words don't penetrate the deep panic that is immobilising the girl.
Apr 24, 2022 12:23 am
"Those still count as mine, though!" Rook shouts. "I destroyed them! I can't be responsible for all the times that dead men rise back to their feet!"

Speaking of which, he might not be able to hold them off forever, but perhaps he could buy some time... He let the others handle the skeleton still standing, and turned towards the horde coming down the tunnel. He lit a second torch, and laid it in front of the doorway, where they'd have to cross over it. Then he quickly backed away. Better to deal with the scraps of the angry dead than the whole ones.

Albert puts a hand on Deoring's shoulder when he returns his broom stick. "Hey, I see your sword is glowing too. Looks like Raynor chose all of us to do this together. What do you say, we finish the job? He smiles broadly.

Following the Captain's tactical decision, Albert hurries over to Roald with his staff in hand. With new found vigor, he runs past Roald's defensive position and goes in for an attack. "You are not wanted here, abomination!" He shouts at the skeleton in front of them, trying to crack some bones with his blessed weapon.

Roald watches his companions come to his aid. He is ready to engage in the battle when things go south, but for now he is waiting.
Apr 25, 2022 2:21 pm
Albert's blow rocks the skeleton backwards, and, with a flash of light, Deoring's slash severs the arm holding its sword thus making it much less dangerous, the captain swings in with another flash of light, pleased to see that she is also able to be effective

The skeleton attempts to make a swing before it notices that its sword-arm is gone. It eyes go from staring at the stump to angrily glaring at you all, then tilts back its head and lets out a scream of silent rage... or is it a call for help? A cold wind that does not flutter Rook's torch blows in from the tunnel you came from.

Behind you, one of the two blown up skeletons has managed to stand, it looks wobbly on its new --and possibly mismatched?-- legs, and it too is looking around for its missing arm and half its torso.

What do you do?

Annoyed with the skeleton's display of silent ominous screaming, Albert grips his broom handle with both hands and tries to jab it right into the opened mouth-hole of the creature, glowing end first. He's fed up with this jerk. Time to shut him up, by force! He realizes that, if this works, he'll have to come up with some kind of cool one-liner.

Albert's aim is true as he strikes the skeleton's mouth. With force and divinity, the stick pierces through to the top of its skull, practically turning the skeleton's head into a barbecue skewer. He swivels his body, dragging the abomination along with him, right into the path of Deoring's blade. He realizes that this opens his left side up to a possible last-ditch-effort attack from the skeleton, but they need to get rid of it now!

"Hey Deoring, did you order a skeleton on a stick?"
Apr 26, 2022 1:38 pm
Deoring's eyes grow even wider as Albert spears the skeleton on his staff and swivels it right in front of him. He chuckles at Albert's witty line, then replies as he swings his sword at the skeleton, aiming just below the rib cage.

"By Raynor's fire, Albert, let's split this order between us!"

Ribs go flying from from Deoring's sword, glittering as the light of Raynor's fire purges them of unlife. These skeletons can clearly feel pain --though they tend to react to it with anger rather than fear. It tries to lash out at the source of that pain, but Albert's skewering staff prevents it from reaching its assailants.

Faint sounds of movement can be heard from the tunnel Rook booby-trapped with fire. The noise of the battle makes it hard to tell details but the light from the torch should give you some warning about an approach from that direction.

Unnoticed, at your backs, in the centre of the room, the second blown-up skeleton reaches out --almost plaintively-- to its companion who appears to have stolen one of its legs. The standing one 'grunts' unsympathetically and reaches down, grabbing the legless torso, lifting it and fusing it to the missing parts of its own body. Maybe it thinks three arms are better than one?

What do you all do?

Albert cheers when Deoring hits the skeleton, but then realizes that it's not defeated yet. He had not foreseen this as an option. So... now what? He thinks, while standing there with a 'live' boneman stuck to his broom handle. "That was supposed to kill it, Deoring! What do I do? Somebody hit it again!" He yells as he tries to stay out of reach of the monster.
Apr 29, 2022 1:07 pm
Derring is momentarily elated when his now glowing sword knocked ribs off the skeleton, but amazingly, it still stands! Oh no, Albert is stuck!

Aiming carefully so as to hit the skeleton and not Albert, he jabs his sword towards the "heart" of the skeleton, shouting "You shall defile this temple NO LONGER!"
