"Perhaps I could make myself of service," Spugnoir says, waiting a moment when Gilly doesn't respond. "Have you any tasks I can make myself useful with. Maybe I could secure us a cart?"
Apr 1, 2022 5:26 am
"Thank you good sir, that would be most helpful. I need to head over to the church for some healing if possible, I am grateful for your generosity."

"Hmm?" Gilly answers, halfway through the interaction. She then realized that she had been distracted by the prospect of striking out on her own.

She retreats from her interruption immediately, as she sees the flow of conversation has moved on.

Hrmph! "Splendid, I will have words with the Druid before we depart. Let us return here within an hour, and begin our journey to the moathouse before too long. We should make use of the daylight." Eltrezar rises from his seat, and begins heading to the door. Hopefully Jaroo is awake and available.
OOC:
No, Eltrezar hasn't forgotten about the robes waiting for him. Business comes first.

Those that have chores depart the inn and make their way to their destinations. The newcomer, Spugnoir, happily makes his way towards the Trading Post to secure a cart for the party.
The day is calm and sunny. No wind blows, nor does a single rain cloud from yesterday remain in the sky. Judging by how warm it is already, the day promises to be unseasonably hot, and most likely uncomfortably humid as the puddles from yesterday's light rain begin to evaporate .
OOC:
I'll leave it to you all to decide if any others will attend or remain at the inn. Unless stated otherwise, I'll assume the rest are remaining at the inn.
Maloria arrives at the church of St. Cuthbert and enters the building via the study and audience chamber. Within, a girl of about twelve or thirteen is sweeping the floor and tidying up. She looks up and though Mal has seen her around the place before, cannot recall her name. Nevertheless the girl says, "Acolyte Stoneforge, good morning. May the light of St. Cuthbert's cudgel bless you."

Towards the center of town Eltrezar makes his way to the Druid of the Grove's residence. After knocking on the door a minute, Jaroo Ashstaff opens the door, staring blankly at the wizard without so much as a word of hello. After a moment he turns and stares intently at the collection box fastened to the side of his small house.

Mal and Thurig both make the sign of St Cuthbert as they enter.

"A fine morning to you as well, might I speak with the Father?"

Gilly will spend a few moments in hushed tones filling the others in on what has occurred in the Moathouse, as she understands it.

She tells of the bandits and their warning, the zombies, giant animals, the drawbridge, the ghouls, the ogre and the weird cultish symbol. Not to mention the gnolls and all those who have lost their lives on the endeavor. The holy woman, the dwarf, the two that joined them last time.

After everything is said and explained, she needs a drink!
Apr 2, 2022 2:47 pm
Eltrezar stands before the druid for a moment of two before he realizes he has to speak first. Ahem! "Our last venture into the depths was ultimately fraught with failure. It would seem they kept ghouls in the lower levels, which opted to eat our help and nearly us as well. But we did manage to convince some guards to abandon the cause, a small pack of gnolls who took something precious from us. Would you perhaps know of a site known as Two Trees, perhaps Three Trees? This is where we are to find the gnolls again. And we aim to put a stop to their violence."
Apr 2, 2022 2:50 pm
Luban's jaw drops at the story Gilly tells! All of this, all the violence and the spoils, over just how few days? A shiver works its way up his spine as he realizes just what he had signed up for. But Luban was no coward! He was just... unlucky.

"Don't worry, Ora. I'll make sure you get back in one piece," he says with a goofy grin on his face, that looks possibly to be a front for justified fear.
Apr 2, 2022 3:48 pm
"Calmert?" the girl says to Maloria. "Yes, I believe he was in the sanctuary earlier. I'll go get him." She sets her broom down in a corner of the room and leaves. A few moments later Calmert enters.
"Acolyte Stoneforge," he says, giving Thurig a wary eye. "I did not expect to see you back so soon. Surely, you haven't come looking for more potions already, for as I stated before, the needs of this community are many these days, and the resources to provide for them are few." Maloria sees the man's eyes flicker briefly at the collections box as he says this, before returning his gaze back to the dwarves. "Is there some other means by which Saint Cuthbert's light can be of assistance to you?"

Back at the grove, the druid listens to Eltrezar and when the wizard is finished, the man merely stares at the him blankly a moment before turning his his gaze to the collections box nailed to the side of his house. He extends his finger underneath the box and pulls forward, and the bottom of the box slides out like a tiny drawer, revealing its contents inside, of which Eltrezar sees a few bits of old brown leaves and some dried berries. Jaroo pulls out one of the berries before replacing the bottom of the collection box, seems to take a considerable time examining closely the wrinkled texture of the berry, and then drops it on the ground. He returns a silent gaze at the wizard.

"Greetings Father, no I have not come for potions, only for healing. We have encountered the living dead beneath the moathouse and they proved quite difficult to destroy. I fear we are drawing closer to whatever fell hand controls them and soon the fight to cleanse this parish will be upon me."

Mal goes to the donation box and deposits ten gold coins.

"I have not forgotten your request for aid with the potion maker, when I root out the master of the moathouse I assure you his gold will be yours."

OOC:
Actually, I always let a PC do a natural healing roll after a night's rest, and I forgot to do anyone's except Bors. Rolling for Mal and Gilly, (the only two that were still down besides Bors), I now have PCs at the following Hit Points:

Gilly 6/7
Eltrezar 5/5
Maloria 7/7
Bors 2/8
Luban 5/5
Thurig 10/10
Ora 6/6
Calmert listens to Maloria and nods appreciatively. "I see. Of course I would be happy to assist in any way I can, and recent troubles in this community has caused me to pray almost daily for the miracle of Cure Light Wounds, but I must say Acolyte Stoneforge, you look rather hale,at least to these eyes. Are you sure you are in need of a miracle that might be better put to one less fortunate? If it is the living dead that troubles you on your investigations, perhaps I might serve you by giving you a vial of holy water blessed by St. Cuthbert's light."
Calmert removes a key from a pocket and unlocks a cabinet, offering a vial of holy water. Do not trouble yourself with the cost for this one.
Your donation today has been more than generous, I am sure."

"Thank you Father Calmert, actually this holy water will serve in just the right way, no healing needed. Good day sir."

Mal deposits another ten gold in the box, collects the holy water and sees herself and Thurig out.

Eltrezar very visibly rolls his eyes and takes out a gold coin from his purse, putting it into the donations box. Harrumph!

"… got her head right between its jaws." she reiterates, and then goes silent for a moment, all eyes on her.

"She was strong. And good. It’s a shame. And all for nothing. At least so far. Just thought you all should know.

Still, there’s time to find great heaping piles of treasure!"
she put on a happy front, in part to try and counter the sad tale of death she had just weaved for them. But she didn’t much believe it herself. Not until she saw the glitter with her own eyes!

"And everyone else, I should hope!" the mage laughs, good natured. She aimed to align herself with these people in totality. The gnolls would require it. And she didn’t want to divide the group into new and old members, for fear that it would lead to… well, certain decisions being made down the road that might disadvantage the latecomers.

"Though you all seem hardy enough. I hope I can keep up!"

As Gilly continues to tell the tale of all that her and her companions have seen and lived through in the moathouse ruins so far, a small audience slowly has been gathering around. Luban the Unlucky still wipes sleep from his eyes as he listens, having getten his full coin's worth from the fine bed he paid for. Maloria and Thurig make their way back to the inn, the richer for a bottle of holy water given to aid their quest.

At the grove, Jaroo stands quietly until a coin is dropped into the weathered box, to which he immediately becomes more animated, not unlike the complicated, mechanized, clockwork toys often seen delighting attendees of fairs and traveling carnivals. "Hmm... Never have I heard of 'Two Trees' or 'Three Trees' as any specific location, and unfortunately I don't consider gnolls to be of clever enough mind to recognize that names or monikers should be specific to one location and recognized by all. I would not be surprised if 'Two Trees' or 'Three Trees' happen to be simply a clump of trees somewhere within or near to the vicinity of the hunting territory of this particular group of gnolls, that they just happened to mark with any means of leaving their foul scent. No doubt every community of gnolls has a 'Two Trees', and a 'Three Trees', and probably even a 'Many Trees', unique to that of other groups only by the reek of piss they've laid upon the ground and surrounding area.
"Of this, I can be of no aid. But where we men seek answers off evidences of things like proper names, our smaller friends care little of such. I think it would be of little difficulty to merely request the help of some of our more keen eyed friends above"
, to which the druid points to the sky, "and merely ask they look for a group of gnolls of the size and number you've described, and who seem to make their way to, and take interest in, any particular clump of foliage containing two or three trees. You can be fairly certain you've found the place then.
"If further proof is needed, you say that this gnoll who calls himself 'Mudclaw', who robbed you of your inventory, instructed you to tell another named 'Rattlethorn' to meet them at said trees. Then no doubt once 'Rattlethorn' recieves her instructions, another group of gnolls would make their way from the ruins and head to said clump of vegetation shortly after, and this would certainly give proof that you've found your dagger's hiding spot.
"I can put word to some of my more keen eyed avian friends, asking them to monitor any movements of gnolls of the size you describe, and report back should any take interest in a copse of two or three trees. Within a day or two, I should hope to have the answers you you seek, Eltrezar."

The druid turns to head back inside his home without so much as a further word of goodbye, but stops and turns back, his finger up as if remembering something. "Speaking of trees, your potions of Tree Shape and Cure Light Wounds are coming along nicely. They should be ready to pick up on the 21st of this month. As I need to do little more than make sure they're left to ferment unmolested, I am able to take any further requests you may have at the moment and will begin working on them shortly."

The Druid's offers of help surprises the wizard, and his face shows it! With each offer of assistance, his jaw drops yet again. He quickly reaches for his purse and drops another two coins in the donation box. Hrmph! "Why yes, that would be most helpful, to discover the whereabouts of these nasty gnolls! As for potions, perhaps something to hide us from the more natural beasts that have tried to eat us in the days of late?"
OOC:
Lubab is indeed downstairs and listening to Gilly's tales.

Eltrezar is requesting Potions of Invisibility to Animals
