Chapter 10 - The Basement

Seeing Cody now actually hurt, Al turn the splinter around and then runs at the spider, trying to skewer it with the strange weapon

The large splinter reveals to be of difficult manoeuvrability for Alana, who struggles to use it effectively against the monstrous spider.

Alice stands up and grabs the fallen nail. She charges at the spider with a battle cry.
"How dare you, you hairy fat-butt!!!"The charge hits the spider on the abdomen - the nail scratching a deep cut in it. The spider crouches defensively, with a moment of tremor.

Cody shakes his head to try to keep it together despite the strong bite suffered.Cody is overwhelmed by being face to face with the horrific giant insect, and is incapable to react to the aggression!

Alice grins, feeling the adrenaline rush from her last successful hit, and getting cocky.
"How did you like that, fat-butt?"

She tries again to stab the spider. This time she gets the angle wrong, and the nail slides on the curved abdomen of the thing.

Al is now really mad. She stabs at the spider over and over, trying to finally puncture it's darn armor!

The Spider creates a barrage to Al's blow with its many legs, making it hard for her to hit. It is slowed down by Alice's attack, but still efficient in defending itself.

Cody grimaces in pain at the bite, hoping he hasn't been poisoned. Get your act together!Finally he reacts, refusing to be overwhelmed by this thing and encouraged by his friends' attacks.

He tries to poke the spider's eyes with his hands!Cody's fingers burst two of the spider's eyes, causing a black ichor to spray him in the face! His fingers do not stop there, as the head of the arachnid gives in under the pressure and Cody finds his hands buried into the head up to the wrist!

The spider starts spasming incontrollably, lashing out with the eight legs in all directions, then flops lifeless, splayed like a huge, horrible hairy rug.

"YYY-YUCK!!!" shouts Cody freeing his hands, and starts frantically to clean them on his jeans.

Logan finishes his long climb and sees the dead spider. Everyone flops to the ground in exhaustion, catching breath after the ordeal.

"Jeez... you killed it... with your hands?!?" she says between pants, incredulous.

"Gosh darn it!", Al exclaims. "That was awesome! Cody, you're a real monster hunter!"

Exhausted and concerned for his friends, Logan doesn't say a word. He simply walks over to Cody and begins to check his arm out.

Cody is still spitting out the blackish stuff that sprayed him. He shows his arm to Logan. It is red and puffy where the spider mandibles have bitten, but the skin does not seem pierced anywhere. Cody's trademark leather jacket must have protected him.

"Oh, man! I even swallowed some of this stuff!! BLEURGH!" he seems more worried about the various bodily liquids he's been in contact with, than about his bitten arm.

Looking at Cody's bite, Logan can see that he is unlikely to have been poisoned. Normally the skin should be pierced for the toxic substance to seep through. But here, there is no open wound.
There is inflammation around the bite spot, but that seems due to the strong pinch of the thing's superstrong mandibles...

Looking at Cody's arm, Logan has a relieved expression on his face. I think you'll be okay. I don't see any bite marks, so I doubt any of its poison got into your system. It does look like it pinched the hell out of your arm, so you'll definitely have the Mother of all bruises. First chance we get, I'd wash your arm, especially around the area of your arm...just to be safe.

Satisfied that Cody is okay, Logan turns his attention to the next important task...finding Needler. Logan starts to look around the area of where they are currently at.
