Recruiting: D&D5e - Living Kingdom: Grand Contest

✅ The Pitch:
It is a time of celebration in the land. King Verhes has announced a month-long festival. Everyone is invited to the capital to partake. There are games, leisure activities, and feasts aplenty, But the thing that has drawn you is The Grand Contest of Champions. A grand quest that involves traveling across the kingdom, with an ultimate prize: lands and royal title for the champions that complete the quest before the end of the month.

Your challenge is to receive the blessing of The Seven Ancient Sages. Each Sage has created a challenge for any who would try their luck. A test of wits, skills, endurance. Will you prove your mettle and claim glory? Or be found wanting, sent home in defeat and disgrace?

However, rumors circulate. There is a growing unrest in the Living Kingdom. Whispers of a dark power building its influence on the fringes of the kingdom. In the dark corners of the local taverns, the common folk whisper of conspiracy. They say the Contest of Champions is a ruse to draw the villains out into the light.

✅ Adult Content or Controversial Themes. Light to Moderate. It won't be a central theme, beyond the inherent pulp violence baked into D&D. I am not shy about it but we will have a lines and veils conversation in the thread once players join.

✅ Character Creation. Starting at 3rd level. All rolls should be done in thread. Stats are 4d6, reroll 1s once, keep 3. HP is roll once or average, your choice can be made after the roll. All official D&D Races and Classes are allowed. Warforged are extremely rare but not forbidden. If a feature is setting specific (like Dragon Marks for example) you may be the only one of your kind in the world. Be prepared to discuss it.

✅ Game Duration and Post Frequency. I am asking for 4 posts a week. Preferably spread out to approx. every other day. I get busy on weekends so might get skipped on occasion. Other times i will post often. Sorry in advance if that is annoying, but I'm just being up front.

✅ Specialized Software and Resources. None.

✅ Player Experience Requirements. Some experience preferred. Willing to accept noobs.

I have an idea for a bard, almost like a journalist, who is working on a story where he is embedded in a team of champions to "capture the real experience these heroes go through first hand." What do you think?

Is this meant to be a typical "we are all part of one adventuring party" game or more of a "we are all trying to win on our own and might occasionally team up" kind of game?

It is an interesting idea, but I was thinking more that everyone involved was going for the prize. You could do both though. Be a reporter giving a first hand account who tries to win the prize and become a lord.
It will be a "one party" type game. The Living Kingdom is a very "Good" society in D&D terms. Honor, Teamwork, and Community are virtues the king and the sages appreciate. Plus there are plenty of titles to go around. Anyone who completes the challenge gets one, so backstabbing isn't necessary.

Oh yeah he's definitely be part of the team and get the prize. He's just adamant that the heroics be chronicled for publication so the world will know the trials and tribulations that are encountered in this most glorious of competitions. You suspect he might even have a book deal lined up. 😜

Yes. You would make our 5th. I have no resriction on official classes, so build what you want.

I've clicked on the "join the game" button text (it's not a button but merely an hyperlink) but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Regardless you are invited now. With the game full I've closed it to applications for now.

But other times it fails with a cancel.



There seems to be a timing issue. Logging as a bug.

We had a player go MIA. That means there is one spot available if anyone wants to apply. I'll keep applications closed and send an invite to the first person who claims the spot. We are still in the first scene so jumping in shouldn't be a problem.

Party makeup is Warforged Bladesinger, Changeling Lore Bard, Tabaxi Fey Warlock, Herengon Oath of the Crown Paladin.
