One of the cool things about playing on GP is the ability to pass secret notes on the forums. I will make use of this feature from time to time (and give no indication to the others that I'm doing so) when it seems like it would be fun to do so. You should each see one below, if not, let me know and we'll try and figure out what I've done wrong.

I use it mostly after perception checks to describe what a character might see that the others don't. You can use it as a whisper if your character wants to keep a secret from some of the other PCs but if you're just whispering to avoid detection or something you can just use regular dialog and mention that you're whispering.

Looks like we have everyone on board. I will have the first post up later this evening!
Jun 21, 2016 10:56 pm
First post is up. How many of you are familiar or have played Lost Mine before?

If there is a lie you have been telling for years, even though it has become second nature, would a deception roll be necessary? Personally I wouldn't think so, but I wanted to know what you think.
Jun 22, 2016 1:19 am
i think that it would just make it a difficult check like with disadvantage ^_^

Rolls
can i tell if your lying - (1d20+4)

For those interested, the last post in this thread describes how to assign an avatar to your character and how to select that avatar when posting.
Jun 22, 2016 1:52 pm
In regards to the last post in the game, do you want me to put a little blurb about Waterdhavian nobility here?
Jun 22, 2016 2:04 pm
Just put up a new post that kind of addresses that. I don't really like to fill in characters' backstories for them so I've merely stated that your family is well known in and around Waterdeep and has been for generations. You can add (or change) as much or as little as you please.
Jun 23, 2016 12:52 am
How do hidden rolls work is there a way to hide them from myself so I do t know if I failed a roll?
Jun 23, 2016 1:14 am
Wow didn't think of that. It would be so cool if you could hide a roll from everyone but the gm.
Jun 23, 2016 1:18 am
When you make a roll you have several options under the "Visibility" menu where you can hide as much or as little information from the others as you'd like. As the GM I will see everything and you will always see everything that you roll. If there comes a time when I need a roll from you that I don't want you to see I'll just make it myself. Feel free to play with the different options here in the OOC thread to see how they work.
Rolls
Hide Nothing - (1d20)
(6) = 6
Hide Roll/Result - (1d20)
Hide Dice & Roll

Colten has sentinel, so disengaging should still provoke an opportunity attack, no?
Jun 24, 2016 1:28 am
You are correct, Sir/Ma'am, sorry I missed that, just saw the first part and didn't turn the page. Doh!
Jun 24, 2016 1:39 am
I guess I'll roll an attack of opportunity here?
Rolls
Opportunity Attack - (1d20+5)
(3) + 5 = 8
Damage - (1d8+5)
(8) + 5 = 13
Jun 24, 2016 1:43 am
Generally you would make all of your attacks in the main thread and describe the action in as little or much detail as you'd like. Still got your main action for the round.
(And yes, it was a miss)

Hey guys, I am just having fun playing Colten as a snobby noble. Tell me in ooc if it gets too much. >.>

No it's perfect ooc my character back story fits so well with the way your playing him I really look forward to our Interaction and I'll fill you in as we go with Kai's story

quick question Szemely I want to put a dose of poison on Coltens sword, but the PHB rules say that it will only last ten min being that Kai is a master of poison I feel that if Kai apply the poison then use one of his candles to coat it with wax and then slip his sword in to its sheath it would hold the poison until he draws his sword and the wax is striped off. That being said I don't think that it would be fair to do this to multiple weapons and it should not last the full 10 mins would i be aloud to do this and how long do you think would be fair.
Jun 27, 2016 4:21 am
After you answer his question, I have one myself. I am really enjoying this group. I am doing one other D&D game but this is my favorite so far. After this adventure, how would you feel about continuing our party's story?

Poison ain't cheap at 100GP per vial - and a vial is only good for one application to a blade (or three pieces of ammunition). I know you character has a background that supports having/working with poison but he should only have a limited supply on him.
2. Candles ain't cheap - ok, they are super cheap, but your character will use one complete candle each time he coats a blade (or three pieces of ammo)
3. Poison's effect only lasts for 1 minute, not 10.
4. What is a Poisoner's Kit?
PHB says:
Poison, Basic. You can use the poison in this vial to coat one slashing or piercing weapon or up to three pieces of ammunition. Applying the poison takes an action. A creature hit by the poisoned weapon or ammunition must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or take 1d4 poison damage. Once applied, the poison retains potency for 1 minute before drying.Jun 27, 2016 9:41 pm

Jun 27, 2016 11:01 pm
Yes I had the one vial and a poison kit so for now I'm out untill I can get some more and I had a couple of candles so I'm good for that but yes I don't want to break the game which is why I asked the question like I said this is my first game... Ever... So I just want to make sure I'm doing it right thanks 😃
Jun 27, 2016 11:06 pm
From my understanding poisoner's kit only helps harvest poison/venom from dead/incapacitated creatures, such as snakes, wyverns, etc. That check is a DC 20 nature check though >.>

@Windtead - So as far as the poison goes, we'll give it full effect once the blade is drawn since it's been sealed in wax. (This is actually my first time dealing with poison in any level of detail as well)
@Sampai - Thanks for the reference. Of the three core books the DMG is the one I haven't spent a whole lot of time with.

We'll give Gareth until tomorrow evening to get an initiative roll in. At that time I'll just roll for him and we'll keep on moving.
Jul 13, 2016 11:27 pm
By the way for those who are interested, Colten hits with a +5 modifier because of +3 dex and +2 dueling style, not due to proficiency.
Jul 14, 2016 12:07 am
I thought it was +2 due to his dashing good looks...
In other news: It appears we may have lost DireHalfling/Gareth. If I don't hear anything from him by this weekend I will drop him out of the game and then we can decide if we want to continue on with four, or recruit someone else to replace him.

In such cases, do you plan to play PC dropouts as NPCs until their inevitable demise with a doom counter of 14 days? :D

At 14 days without contact from a player their PC will die some sort of hilarious death. :-)
I'll generally NPC a character who has held up play for 48 hours, but if that happens two consecutive times, the PC will most likely be booted from the game.
HOWEVER, if a player has something come up IRL and contacts us that they'll be away for a while or busy for a few days, I'll gladly do whatever I can to accommodate them (NPC their character, send them 'home' until the player can play again, etc). It's the lack of contact that'll get PCs booted.

Hey, I rolled the intimidate check yesterday under my old post, just so everyone knows.
Jul 22, 2016 2:40 am
Is it mean for me to think that Gareth should heroically sacrifice himself for Puck or the party? :P
Jul 30, 2016 12:42 am
Gareth has been removed from the game. Shall we recruit another player into the game or continue on with four for now?
Jul 30, 2016 5:54 pm
the Room where in, is the water being held back by a wall of rocks? if so are we at a higher elevation that the goblins?
Jul 30, 2016 6:12 pm
You are currently in the hallway leading into the room (via the bridge) and at the same level as the goblins. The walls are holding back the water behind it. Currently only those with dark vision can actually see the goblins.

I just deleted that post then, since sentinel didn't trigger. Tricky to see how far everyone is this way.

It is hard to keep track of everyone's location without an actual grid of some kind. I have all kinds of notes offline that I've been keeping to try and keep a handle on the details.

Was out of town yesterday and will be busy most of today but WILL have a post up tonight. Sorry for the delay.

Hey to all that I'm in games with Just a heads up I have a couple of camping trips coming up, aug. 26-27 and sep. 2-4
Aug 26, 2016 9:08 pm
No worries, just like to throw out a check once in a while when things start moving a little slowly.
Aug 27, 2016 10:16 pm
yeah i noticed that a week or so ago things in all my games have been slowing down a lot.
Aug 28, 2016 11:50 pm
A lot of games start off pretty quick only to slow a bit once they get started. Also back to school season here in the US, so anyone with kids may be dealing with real life stuff.

Sorry guys I had a post all written out last night and apparently just closed the tab without hitting the post button. :-/
Was just checking to see why there weren't any responses so far and realized that nothing got posted. I'll recreate tomorrow when I get home from work. Apologies.

Was going to give Luka a chance to respond in Barthen's. If there's nothing by tomorrow when I get home from work, I'm going to move the story along. Looks like we're down to three people now as Winstead has gone inactive and will be removed from the game.
Sep 14, 2016 11:21 pm
Most likely. I'll post for a replacement in the next day or two. In the meantime let's get this story moving. (I'm working on a post now).
Sep 16, 2016 4:17 am
Hello everyone, I believe I'm your replacement. Should get a character up tomorrow, and hopefully be in and making a mess of things by the weekend!
EDIT: What've we got in the party? What roles need fillin'? :)

Currently we have:
Sampai, who is playing a human fighter.
Holmag, who is playing a dwarven wizard.
OddEyesGardevoir, who is playing a half-elf cleric (although I haven't heard from OddEyesGardevoir in a while, so we may need yet another replacement)
Everyone is at level 2.

On second thought, maybe it's not a good idea for Colten to sleep in. Perhaps Sir Hallwinter can wake him up? >.>

Just noticed that OddEyesGardevoir has been inactive for two weeks. So they'll be dropped and I'll post for a replacement.

Welcome, Elttat. Take some time to get caught up with the going ons so far and roll up a character in the Character Creation thread. Everyone is at second level at this point.

Colten Duveau - Human Fighter
Etch - Warforged Bloodhunter
Delg - Dwarven Wizard

I'm running a AoR game for some friend tomorrow evening after work, so I MAY not get anything posted for this game until Tuesday (but I'll try to sneak something in late tomorrow).
Oct 7, 2016 10:21 pm
I just realized that Colten cheated with action surge when he fought Klarg, since he shouldn't have action surge yet! Sorry :(
Oct 9, 2016 3:48 pm
Gone and caught myself some sort of weird monkey flu or something and have been mostly out of it since Friday afternoon. I'll get a post up sometime early this week once I've recovered a bit.
Oct 11, 2016 11:49 pm
Yep, thanks, doing better. I'll have something up here tomorrow and we can get this moving along again.

Level 3 is the level of choice for Etch -- here's the critical question -- what kind of Blood Hunter should it be?! The class choices include:
1. Undead Slayer (radiant damage option for crimson rite, as well as bonus damage vs undead)
2. Part-Warlock (access to warlock spells, and melee-focussed pact boons)
3. Potion-Drinker (sort of like potions in the Witcher, access to double-edged boons via special potions; can't share them)
4. Werewolf (yup, not much more needed to say really - it's kind of like a barbarian thing, where your rage mode is wolf-form)
I'm leaning 3 or 4. I have a Pact-Hunter in a face to face game, and the Undead Slayer is cute but it's also the least mechanically interesting (probably the most powerful though).
The potion path is intriguing, but the double-edged nature of the potions makes them difficult to decide if they'd be worth it or not to use - this path is more interesting the more often we short rest (which seems to be every 1-2 battles) as then I can get rid of the potion effect / change my active potion.
The werewolf path is cool, but very strange on a construct. I'd probably want to retheme it in a transformer kind of way instead of a literal werewolf. Which is cool, but maybe a bit too fantastical for the game? I dunno.
Any opinions? I find these kinds of choices difficult, so I welcome considerations/recommendations (mechanical or thematic!).

Dec 16, 2016 3:12 pm
Order of the Lycan it is -- Etch's years spent hunting lycans in the wilds guaranteed that the construct had been bitten more than once. Though made of bone-like sinews and steel, the warforged still contracted the disease. Scholars, if they knew, might have begun to wonder if their theories of a blood-borne affliction were wrong, and instead if lycanthropy was a curse of the soul. At least, they would have if they believed constructs had souls. While afflicted, the disease remained dormant until recently as while the soul was afflicted, the body was not amenable to change. Then, after a particularly brutal battle with a trio of bugbears, Etch was severely damaged. It was then, when the constructs body was so loosely held together, that the affliction found its means to manifest. Etch, however, immediately wrestled control of it, the will of the construct far exceeding the will of a human, and turned it outwards as a newfound power.

Dec 18, 2016 9:30 pm
Colten will be a battlemaster with Disarming Attack, Precision Attack and Trip Attack!
Dec 20, 2016 8:53 pm
Delg will be a divination wizard. Need to level him up work had me really busy in the last two weeks I should be back to posting consistently.

I have a job interview for a dream position at CMU doing research on teaching (I fly out in 11 hours), so I probably won't post until I've gotten back and decompressed (Wed/Thurs).
Feel free to have Etch smash the nearest smashable thing if it's holding up the game :)
