Here's the obligatory OOC thread. Feel free to post your basic character concept here. You would all have been part of the same following, maybe your entire life, so feel free to include what the other players would know about you. It's a tight knit community with some 70 members.

Name: Igbork Armbreaker
Class: Rogue
Okay. So Igbork would be known to be someone to leave the village for days or weeks in order to scout, lay ambushes, infiltrate another tribe's camp or spy at newcomers in the area. Someone who'd go from zero to a hundred if the situation calls for it but not malicious or choleric.
He has a wife and two daughter, all of whom he genuinely loves and cares for. In camp he's usually friendly with everyone as he sees them as extended family and therefore cares for and trusts them. He's known for his brisk, sometimes borderline abrasive humour. Apart from spending time with his family his favourite pasttimes include drinking beer and tinkering with his equipment
His body is covered in tattooed spiral shapes. When he is asked about them he will tell a different story to whoever asks. Sometimes he says he got a vision to get them tattooed, sometimes he'll says that they're camouflage and another time he'll tell that they are ancient writing.
So we have:
-A wild order druid
-A fighter
-An oracle
-A summoner
-A sorcerer
-and me as a rogue
So I think it may be better if I make Igbork more into a melee character or at least a melee-flexible character. What do you think? I'm new to PF and PF 2e so I may be wrong here and therefore open for suggestions ^^

Name: Atticus Crownguard
Class: Fighter
House: Musk Ox
Even though he's been in the tribe for a few years, Atticus feels like he was born into the tribe. Thus, there's nothing he wouldn't do for his adopted family. With a near fearless or border-line reckless zeal, Atticus will protect them all.
Never one to shrink away from work, Atticus will gladly accept any task...be it a hunt, scouting, raiding, or even the more mundane tasks at the village. When we was first brought into the tribe, Atticus couldn't see the beauty for all of the darkness that surrounded him. Gradually with the help of his new found family he finally saw the light.
Now that he's at a better place in his heart and mind, Atticus is ready to start a family.

Callow (female tiefling, demon-blooded sorcerer, Sarkorian Survivor background)
Callow's very birth was a curse on her family and home, heralded by strange omens. Her mother died bringing her into the world. Her father never forgave her and the village never trusted her, especially when her strange, tainted magical abilities began to emerge. When her father was slain the fearful folk decided to no longer tolerate her presence, and Callow was dragged to the highest hill and tied to a copper pole as a storm rumbled overhead, to be executed and purified by lightning-strike. Thankfully, a weary warrior who had seen enough senseless bloodshed in the Worldwound came upon her as she struggled and cut her free, and the two of them travelled together to the west.
For all her tainted origins, Callow is a ray of sunshine. Enthusiastic, curious and sweet-natured, she finds the Realm no less a harsh and dangerous place than the Worldwound, but at least here the threats are of flesh and blood, tusk and hide, not hellfire, tentatacles and acid-dripping maws. She works as a forager for the following, though she is easily distracted and swept up in Koram's schemes and Keshka's visions.
It seems like our druid may spend some time in a form with claws and fangs and the summoner's pet may be a melee combatant in addition to the fighter, so there should be some people to flank with if you go melee, but enough bodies to block if you wanted to choose ranged instead. But I'm not sure how sneak attack works in PF2e... like you I'm new to the system.
Is the Pathfinder sheet usable for PF2e characters, or should we fill in a blank one ourselves?

You could use the Pathfinder character sheet. It is not ideal for the situation. Looking through the public repository of character sheets I found the following:

Naatkinson made that original sheet - in the meantime, he's made an arguably better one if anyone is interested in using it (not sure why he hasn't added it to the official list yet). It has more automation and fillable fields in it.

Name: Koram (,Dragon-tongue? Dragon-tamer? not sure yet)
Class: Summoner
Eidolon: Dragon - melee with breath weapon
Koram is young, energetic, and excited - perfect traits for bringing in new members to join the Following. Having been recruited himself only a few years back, he knows the welcoming nature of the Tusk and has been happy to find a family within their ranks. Though initially there was some worry, and even fear, amongst the Following due to his friend, Haitith. For reasons unknown to Koram, he has found an ability to call forth the physical manifestation of Haitith, an ancient dragon, whose soul floats across the astral plane. Though cantankerous and claiming to often be bored of human folly, Haitith seems to like his jaunts to the material plane and is a steadfast friend to Koram. Haitith's assistance with the herd, and a few solid years of NOT eating fellow members of the Tusk, has earned both Koram and Haitith a respected position among his people. Koram only hopes he can share the bounty of this family and their way of life with others that wish to join them.
Koram is known for his optimism and friendliness, though his decisions are guided by learned pragmatism. He cares deeply for the Following and genuinely seeks to recruit those whose passions and goals align with those that allow their Following to thrive within the Realm. Haitith is a grump, and tries to pretend to not care about anyone but Koram and himself, but that's mostly for show - ancient dragon spirit / big ego, typical.
I don't see most people in the tribe really understanding the Summoner/Eidolon thing, and those except the most wise in the tribe probably will assume Koram just befriended/tamed a young dragon.
-----------------
I think the group makeup look pretty good. Haitith will definitely be up front a lot in melee, while Koram will have limited arcane magic while shooting a crossbow from the back line. As a recruiter for the Following, I'll invest a little into face skills (though not a lot, since the AP hints they won't be put to use overly much).

Name: Jon
Class: Champion
Background: Megafauna Hunter
Born to a pair of Kellid herders recruited into the tribe a generation ago, the Broken Tusk tribe had learned of Jon's talents, the first time he had taken down a wandering wolf all on his own. Not too grand of a feat, one that most of the hardy northerners among the recruits could do... were Jon not 12 and wielding all but a wooden board when he done it. A hearty, jovial, and scarily strong child even among the toughest of the Broken Tusk's runts, the young lad proved himself highly skilled at taking down most game with the combination of a quick wit, an inspiring attitude, and a surprising skill at wielding boards of all kind even against the dangers of the tundra.
Even as he grew into maturity and, with it, earned a place among the hunters of the tribe for his muscle and his smile, Jon would do his best to be a friend to all of the Broken Tusk's members. Sharing many a drink with men like Igrook, Atticus and Koram over many stories told and retold in varying degrees of inebriation, without ever missing a beat in accompanying Callow out for an adventure or two, Jon holds a reputation as a cheerful protector, wielding nothing but a massive shield and a massive heart as he journeys onward to aid his people lead a happy, peaceful life.
Never fear, my friends! I ditched the Monk/Barbarian idea as soon as I noticed Champion has an interesting feat I could build around. So, since I can't escape charisma, I'll be building a tanky, healy Champion, and I promise this time I'm locking it in xD
I assume taking Everstand Stance is okay? If not, I can switch to a shield/gauntlet style instead. One thing I do have to ask is the religious faith around the Broken Tusk: do we worship any one god in specific?

I've been beating my head against PF2e all day, and I'm afraid it's not clicking for me. It's too particular and fussy. I'm going to have to withdraw my concept. Have fun everyone!

The Broken Tusk’s patron deity is Sister Cinder, goddess of fire and wisdom. Long ago, when the world was shrouded in ash after a great cataclysm, Sister Cinder bestowed a divine light upon the Broken Tusk’s ancestors. The light enabled her followers to cut through the veil of darkness and help restore the world’s natural order, as well as to discern right from wrong. In other parts of the world, Sister Cinder is known as Sarenrae.
Though Sarenrae (or Sister Cinder as they call her) is the most revered, there's also some who worship Gozreh, Erastil and Desna.

The four houses are pretty similar, mostly different in which animals they identify themselves with. Each house has three animals that embody courage, cleverness and resilience.
Falcon House includes hares and glyptodons. Falcon House boasts many of the best tattooists in the following, who use porcupine needles and herbal salves to apply stick‑and‑poke healing marks over achy joints and internal injuries.
Moose House includes bears and ravens. Members of the Moose House tend to brand their faces and bodies with thick, solid lines tattoos.
Musk Ox House includes saber-toothet tigers and bighorn sheep. In Musk Ox House, it’s customary for members to gift their housefellows pieces of ivory carved into the shapes of animals—what many southerners call a "zoic fetish"—to parents of newborn children.
Otter House includes wolves and aurochs. Scarification is most common in Otter House, whose master scar‑etchers use specially treated beaver claws to carve lines along and around facial features to enhance the senses, commonly the eyes, nose, and ears.
Piercings and other pieces of worn jewelry present a popular alternative for Tusks who are hesitant to permanently mark their flesh, and body paint mixed from pigments and river clay are a temporary alternative to skin marking.

Koram has been submitted! He will be in Otter House.
I have a really cool (imo) plan for him, to grow his reputation AND his Eidolon until he becomes the first Mammoth Lord to mount a fully-grown dragon.
Also, will take the free archetype for Swashbuckler. The 'One for All' feat it has access to will allow me to use Diplomacy for 'Aid Another' towards my Eidolon from 30ft away and call out battle commands like a pokemon trainer. "Haitith, Breath Weapon NOW!" heh

Looking forward to getting the last two characters. Hopefully can start quickly after that. If anyone has art for their character feel free to post it here. Trying to decide what to do about battlemap, is it worth it learning the onboard map or is it enough with a screenshot of the situation between rounds?

PF2e in my experience relies very heavily on placement on a map. As long as it's updated and we're able to call out where we're going/what we're doing, it should probably be fine.
I will say, I've been learning On the Fly Battle Maps for my own game and its really handy, but I've also seen people use Google Slides very successfully in recent games.

I submitted Atticus for approval. Could you look it over and see if I missed anything so far? It's my 1st creation, so I'm betting I forgot something.
I still need to buy Weapons and armor, but I'm not sure what to pick. I'm thinking that he still has his long sword from his old life. What else would from his newbie would fit?

You should have an armor, I suggest based on your Dexterity to get Hide or Scale armor.
I also suggest getting a ranged weapon for those tricky situations with flying enemies. Or enemies on other side of natural hinders. Could go longbow, but it isn't the most effective at short range. Possibly a thrown weapon could be good for you. If there's money left over, I always try to get at least one minor healing potion or elixir of life.
The usual adventurer's pack is a good mix of useful items.
I won't micromanage and punish for you because you didn't think of winter boots at character creation. I will assume the standard adventuring gear will be suited for the colder climate.

Sounds great! I made the final corrections on my sheet as well as gear. Any wealth that was left over would've been spent on helping the clan..etc.

Read up and found that if both summoner and eidolon are subject to the same source of healing or damage, it is only applied once. Koram/Haitith weren't hurt quite as bad as I thought.

Don't worry. That 1 means you manage to ruin it before anything dangerous can happen. Had it been an attempt to disarm it however.

Sorry for being a bit behind with posting
I'm currently quite busy and until Monday I'll be at the Nova Rock music festival.
After that I should have more time.

I'm on vacation until August 15th. I'll probably post from time to time but it'll be inconsistent.

Remind you that you have Hero Points. I would have awarded a new hero point at the beginning of the month, but I think everyone is full up with 3 right now.

I'm looking at a halfling cloistered cleric of Pulura named Artesia. Would she be a good fit? Background is a circuit judge from Guns & Gear.

You will be far off the beaten path as a Circuit Judge. But we could reflavor it a little. There is little crime among the followings, but I guess there might be some cases were some mediation and ruling may be needed.
Apr 16, 2023 3:12 pm
Thank you, C1nder, glad to be here! Furmyr, if you would prefer I go another background path, I can easily do so.

It's fine. Will make it work, but you also gain a free Arcehtype feat at level 2 since we're using the Free Archetype variant rule.

Okies, I will add that to her sheet and then she is ready to join when you find a place to insert her.

The game seems to have slowed down lately, with few posts. Is people still around? Or is it the hexploration that isn't quite working in PbP forum? Or something else that has killed interest?
Jan 31, 2024 9:08 am
I'm definitely still here, trying not to hog the spotlight and give others a chance to give direction on what we're doing. I have noticed the slowdown though. I think hexploration works fine in pbp - just my opinion.

Hey gang, glad to be here! Quick question as my brain cycles through options ... what roles do we have covered?
For example a Cloistered Cleric plays alot differently than a Warpriest. Is the Summoner's eidolon melee or support, and is our druid more caster or wildhape?
I'm fine playing melee, just want to know if we need beefy tank melee, or hard-hitting melee damage.

Welcome, ZeroPrime! My PC, Grom is a Druid - the PC we lost was a melee warrior. I'd just give you Jospeh Campbell's advice - "Follow you bliss!" :-)
Apr 10, 2024 10:06 pm
I'm likely going with a Fighter-Beastmaster ... an aspiring Mammoth Lord. Likely a member of Musk Ox House, but who misses Grandfather Eiwa deeply.
Mechanically, a spear and shield fighter, who rides a wooly rhinoceros. The mounts large size, plus reach from the spear, fighter AoO, and shoves from the shield should be able to keep attackers from our back line.

@C1NDER Question for you. Do you have a second sheet for Haitith? Or do you just manually track, or input their attacks, etc?
Apr 11, 2024 10:21 am
I added a section to the bottom of Koram's sheet for Haitith's stuff. I often will manually update it, but I've been particularly lazy on this character, choosing instead to screenshot the eidolon's stat block and inserting it as an image at the bottom of my sheet. The stat block is from my Pathbuilder sheet.

@ZeroPrime I approved your character. We can retcon and say you came along with Pakano if you'd like to get into the game sooner.

So close on the will save! Is Grimm close enough to need a save as well? I would assume Grom is outside with Grimm ... (being Large the Rhino was unlikely to be able to slip into the cave) ... but that's up to you. Heh.
Apr 12, 2024 4:10 pm
That's a good point. Grimm is definitively outside, and out of the area of effect. Anyone who hasn't posted that the went into the cave can also stay out of reach.

That's fine. Real life takes priority. Thanks for letting us know :)
And I must apologize for this hazard. If I have one complaint about PF2e is that Hazards are a bit too lethal. I will try to do something about this going forward. It has been a recurring theme in my two real life game that the only thing that threaten to TPK us has been hazards.

Greetings everyone! Thanks for the invite. I am new to Pathfinder 2e and I am following the remaster book. I haven't fully gotten accustomed to the rules but I do love to learn and play more Pathfinder 2e. As for setting, I know some very basic information and the Realm of the Mammoth Lords is entirely new to me for which I am really excited to play this game. What is everyone playing as?

Very well, I am making a fighter then. I would love to read the entire post about what has been going on, but it will take time. A summary of what has happened will be really helpful. Also, do I have to make level 1 character or what level is the game currently in?

Currently Level 3.
The group is part of the Broken Mammoth following. A group that long ago broke apart from a group called the Burning Mammoths. The group started as scouts in training, mostly helping out for the annual Night of the Green Moon ritual. As the characters gather food and resources for their following and prepare for the ceremony, they discover clues that suggest their group might not be alone. Sure enough, an advance war party from a rival following disrupts the Green Moon ceremony.
They learn that their attackers are the Burning Mammoths, which hasn't been seen in over a generation. During the attack the group's rival scout, a young man named Pakano disappears.
The Broken Tusks flee the mighty Burning Mammoth following and head east. Grandfather Eiwa, the following's elder informs the characters that the nearby Red Cat Cave shelters a powerful artifact that can help the Broken Tusks. The characters explore the cave and learn from the ghost of a slain guardian beast that the artifact is gone.
The following must retrace their old route to hopefully find the artifact. They have reason to believe the artifact might lie somewhere in the mythical Lost Mammoth Valley. They have been told that the entrance is to the east.
All this is complicated by the Burning Mammoth trailing the group and they have had a few encounters with advanced scouts. From them they have learned that the Burning Mammoth is led by a woman named Ivarsa. And that Pakano has joined with them and been sent ahead for a secret mission.

So, I watched some lore videos and downloaded the Quest for Frozen flame players guide. After watching that and going through the players guide, I find the premise very interesting. Going through the possible backgrounds, I liked the ex-Mendevian crusader but I didn't like the benefits it gave, so I went for a common background from Player core. I am thinking that my character was a blacksmith's apprentice back on Mendev who tried to help the crusaders by repairing their weapons. When they were fighting a prolonged siege, he was given a sword and a shield and sent to defend the walls. He survived that and got some more essential training, but was next sent to the battlefield. This exposed him to the horrors of the war, and he almost lost his sanity. After losing his comrades in the battle, he deserted and ran away to the realm of the Mammoth Lords. Unable to survive in the harsh weather and on the brink of death, he collapsed but was rescued by the Broken Task's Moose house, who helped him recover and heal. Now he is trying to find footing in the midst of two worlds. He yearns for modern society but is scared to go back to Mendev but he is grateful to the Broken Task. Being a blacksmith's apprentice, he has helped craft many tools for Moose house. Thoughts?
I have stated the character in Pathbuilder and I will transfer them here. Do I start with some money, or is the starting 15 gp the only thing I get?

You either get 30 gp or 20 gp and a level 1 permanent item. Not that many level 1 items to choose from, but some armors are technically level 1. So could get you a half-plate for example.

The Burning Mammoth have been a recurring thorn in your side. They attacked during the Green Moon Ceremony and you have encountered their scouts here and there. Once trying to poison the water upriver from you and last time in the craggy hills to the east. You know they are still behind you.
Back when Alignment was a thing, Quicklings were Chaotic Evil, so they are not playful pranksters, but more sinister. Shaggy knows about them so he'll be able to inform you just how vile they can be.

Sorry for lack of updates in main thread. Last few days have been hell at work. One colleague got a kidney stone, one had to go to another department and last one is on vacation so I'm stuck holding the fort myself. Barely have had the time and energy to post in the games I am player in.

Don't forget the reactions available with our Broken Tusk Pendants - can use it to get +1 AC vs a melee attack from an animal.
Aug 17, 2024 5:36 am
Wow, I didn't know about the Broken Tusk pendant. What does it give? +1 AC if you use it as reaction?
Aug 17, 2024 9:26 am
yes, v. animals.
Detailed HERE
I don't see why the new folks wouldn't also have them, as I believe they are a right of passage within the Following. @Furmyr ?

Yes, I had actually forgotten about that pendant myself. You can all have one of them as members of the following and part of the scouts.

Tomas has +7. We can do this as a group. Someone leads while the others focus on looking non-aggressive.

Aid can be a good idea. It's a DC 15 check and gives a +2 or better depending on your expertise level.

I'll add an Aid check to my last post - Looks like Tomas might be the best one to take the lead :D

A couple of questions. Since 1 week has passed, does it mean, Iroven is fully healed? Also, I was thinking about repairing the Shield; do you want me roll? Any idea what's the DC and how many times can I roll?

Yeah, you would all be back to full health. Most groups I've been handwave out of combat healing in Pathfinder 2e when there is no rush anymore. It will take a few hours at most with Treat Wound action.
Repair will be a Craft DC based on the items level. Since it is a level 0 shield with a Repair DC of 14. With a success you repair 5 hp on a crit success you repair 10 hp. Each attempt takes 10 minutes.

Since almost a week has past, I will make 4 repair rolls on the Breaking tusk thread to emulate that he is repairing in his downtime while travelling with the camp.
Thanks to the dice gods, it seems with even 4 attempts, the shield was not fully repaired. Can I make repair rolls every day while we are doing hexcrawl?

You can do several each day. It's 10 minutes per attempt so you probably travel for 8 hours, then some work to set up camp and hunting and forraging for food. So you have at least a few hours each day.

The ice isn't unstable so much as it counts as uneven ground. That means you need to make an acrobatics check not to fall. You are not in danger of falling through the ice. I know that on the battlemap it looks more precarious than it really is. Should be solid ice.
But I imagine ice being immune to ice damage, and could ineed strengthen it. But it won't do anything about the slipperyness of ice.

Let's say with around 100 feet you are at 90 feet. With 30 feet speed you can reach him in 3 actions.

Koram & Haitith - Level 4 Advancement
-------------------------------------------
HP: 47 -> 60
AC: 17 -> 18
Class Feat - Tandem Movement: For one action, Koram and Haitith can each stride up to their speed.
Free Archetype Feat - One for All: For one action, designate an ally within 30 feet to bolster their efforts. This counts a sufficient preparation to Aid that ally and can always use Diplomacy on the roll. Doing so also gives Koram 'panache'
Skill Feat - Intimidating Glare: Demoralize with a single action without the need to speak.
+1 lvl 2 spell known and use per day
Haitith Gains:
AC: 19 -> 20

Do we need anything in particular for the cave? Extra rope? Torches? I'll have Tomas load Light as on of his cantrips

Once again, my wife and I are on our way to Walt Disney World, Dec 1-6. Please bot me as necessary during that time. Thank you!

Great! Enjoy your trip, @WhtKnt. Do your characters get completely healed if you level up?
Nov 28, 2024 11:53 am
You are all healed up. At this point your medicine skill should be sufficient to get everyone back on your feet when in a non dangerous situation. It's just when you are in the danger of sudden assault we'll go hour by hour.

I will level up Artesia before I leave, just falling behind with the American holiday.

I'm back, but I walked into a hornet's nest of busy with the holidays. I will try to get something posted in the next day or so.

Okay, I fell waaaay behind, but Artesia is now up-to-date except for hit points. I can't recall how we generate hit points. Was it maximum each level or average?
Dec 13, 2024 6:25 am
Hit points go up a set amount each level in PF2e, based on your class. For example, Clerics always gain 8 + their CON modifier each level.

Okay, then. Artesia is (finally) up to date. Sorry that took as long as it did.

No worries. It is a busy time of year for a lot of us. You forgot to upgrade your AC, but I have fixed it. Looks right now :)
