Rolls

OOC:

All valid points:
h - hellhound. I will control it and it will share initiative with enemy but go just before them. That is until Anguis have tamed it

Thorem is sucked in, but you see him and could
A creature within 5 feet of the cube can take an action to pull a creature or object out of the cube. He will also be able to try to break out by himself as an action.
If both cases it will be a Str check, but I will not spoil the DC yet.

Round 1, Anguis, Bellow, Mal - your turn. Threm is surprised. and you understand that cube is a creature that has been waiting for it's pray and now start moving toward rest of you
OOC:
D20 have helped with logic - the fact that Youth turn is after cube should reflect that he also almost bumped into the cube and were almost as surprised as Thorem
nameinitiativestatus
Thorem 14 Surprised, inside cube, can't breathe (talk) and is restrained
Anguis 13 Around the table more than 30 feet from cube
Bellow 9 -
Mal 6 -
Hellhound 4 -
Cube 4 -
Yoth 3 -
Apr 6, 2022 6:07 am
OOC:
Thorem mumbles and flaps arms. NOT. Just has a surprised look. That was Thorem's turn.
Apr 6, 2022 7:34 am
He heads around the table to H4. To check, in case this isn't some kind of evil witchery like last time, Anguis does the only logical thing. He hauls a javelin at the cube.

Not magic!

Rolls

Javelin to hit - (1d20+5)

(5) + 5 = 10

Javelin damage - (1d6+3piercing)

(1) + 3 = 4

Apr 6, 2022 12:30 pm
that looks bad.
Move to J 11 and pull Thorem out.

It won't let go!

Rolls

Strength - (D20+3)

(5) + 3 = 8

Apr 7, 2022 4:45 pm
Mal will stay back and say, "YOTH, RUN! HOLD ON, THOREM!"

He will take out a javelin, drop his maul, and tie the rope to it.
OOC:
Action: Use an Object (tie the rope ot the javelin)
No movement used, no bonus action used

My plan is to use my long-limbedness to place the javelin near Thorem's hands, and then pull him out, if possible.

We will see if the plan will work.
Apr 7, 2022 5:17 pm
I will do this in two posts. First your and hellhound turn
OOC:
@HeroAmongMen I'm rather inflexible DM I must admit. I know DnD rules allow during combat PC "an action that you improvise" but it requires communication between DM.
When you describe an action not detailed elsewhere in the rules, the GM tells you whether that action is possible and what kind of roll you need to make, if any, to determine success or failure.
I would in most cases say it is not possible just because I I'm such a weak DM that am not ready to assume responsibility for the decision.
More over I believe that Help action exists there to cover most of the improvised RP actions.
When Bellow put his arms into the cube to poll out Thorem, he realises the same thing THorem have realised - inside is full of acid. You take (3d6) acid damage despite you fail to pull Thorem out
Meanwhile Anguis javelin hits the creature and you see it suffers some pain (-4hp)
Hellhound however does not seem to be willing to attack the cube - it stay where it was looking around (dodge) snuffing

Rolls

Acid damage to Bellow - (3d6)

(522) = 9

Apr 7, 2022 5:21 pm
OOC:
Ack. Since the cube isn't square and doesn't fill the square, of course Thorem receives a bonus for trying to escape! (NOT!).
Apr 7, 2022 5:26 pm
At the start of cube turn Throem takes 6d6 acid damage
Cube moves 5 feet up trying to "swallow Yoth and then 10 feet right, trying to swallow Bellow.
Yoth and Bellow must make DC12 dex save throw (Bellow with advantage) to avoid being swallowed by bumping 5 feet away.
On failed save you are swallowed (engulfed) and take damage as listed
OOC:
I will update map after dex saves.
nameinitiativestatus
Thorem 14inside cube, can't breathe (talk) and is restrained
Anguis 13 Around the table more than 30 feet from cube
Bellow 9 ???TBC???
Mal 6 -
Hellhound 4 -
Cube 4 Status -4 hp, Thorem inside it
Yoth 3 ???TBC???

Rolls

Acid damage to Thorem - (6d6)

(345641) = 23

Possible damage to Yoth - (3d6)

(446) = 14

Possible damage to Bellow - (3d6)

(214) = 7

Apr 7, 2022 5:33 pm
OOC:

The cube takes up its entire space - this is from monster description. It does take all 10x10 feet square (and actually all of 10x10x10 feet cube)

My apologies again for battle map not being able to reflect that just as it does not reflect that any player and especially hellhound is not round

Apr 7, 2022 5:36 pm
OOC:
Im going to roll the save, then come back and edit the post based on the results.

Dex save successful. Yoth gets bumped 5 feet. Then cube moves 10' away, which would be out of melee range. I assume that means Yoth can make an opportunity attack. He will use the censer. Another roll, then back for another edit.

That looks Ike a hit. I'll roll damage along with Yoth's other actions.

Yoth will cast Guiding Bolt on the cube. Ranged spell attack - roll included below. Then Yoth will move away, up and to the left on the map, moving 25' away if possible.

Looks like Guiding Bolt hits. Damage roll included. Next attack by anyone against cube has Advantage.

Ok. That's Yoth's turn..

Reaction: Opportunity attack vs cube
Action: Cast spell Guiding Bolt
Move: Move 25' to space F5 on map

Rolls

Dex save to avoid engulf - (1d20)

(13) = 13

Attack of opportunity w/censer - (1d20+3)

(17) + 3 = 20

Censer damage (bludgeon) - (1d8+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

Censer damage (radiant) - (1d8)

(5) = 5

Guiding Bolt to-hit - (1d20+5)

(11) + 5 = 16

Guiding Bolt damage - (4d6)

(5226) = 15

Apr 7, 2022 5:43 pm
SInce it is almost impossible for bellow to fail dex I'm posting the new map and you all could submit your turns - Thorem his 1st turn ationc anad everybody else their 2nd round actions
Note: You see engulfed Thorem moving together with cube

OOC:
YOUR TURN, everybody
Apr 7, 2022 5:48 pm
Escape. Does Thorem take damage from exiting?

Obviously with a 6. Thorem doesn't escape with a 1 rolled. Disadvantage roll does matter.
Last edited April 7, 2022 5:50 pm

Rolls

STR check to escape and disadvantage roll if needed - (1d20+5, 1d20+5)

1d20+5 : (1) + 5 = 6

1d20+5 : (17) + 5 = 22

Apr 7, 2022 6:01 pm
OOC:
Thorem do not take any damage for anything he does inside cube. He will only take damage if still inside by cube's turn
And no you do not have disadvantage on Str checks
[ +- ] restrained
Apr 7, 2022 6:03 pm
Late dex save to avoid swalllow.
Success as predicted.
I try again to pull Thorem out.
Last edited April 7, 2022 6:05 pm

Rolls

Dex - (D20+2)

(17) + 2 = 19

Dex adv - (D20+2)

(8) + 2 = 10

Str pull - (D20+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

Apr 7, 2022 6:19 pm
Once Mal finishes the knot to tie the rope to the javelin, Mal will throw the javelin, aiming to have the javelin hit near Thorem so that Thorem can try to grab the javelin or rope. He will grab the rope once he sees that the creature is hit with the javelin (hopefully so) to , or grab the rope to pull the javelin back if he misses.
OOC:
Action: Attack gelatinous cube with javelin
No move, no bonus action.
Last edited April 7, 2022 6:28 pm

Rolls

Javelin to hit vs gel. cube (w/ adv. from Yoth) - (1d20+6, 1d20+6, 1d6+4)

1d20+6 : (18) + 6 = 24

1d20+6 : (3) + 6 = 9

1d6+4 : (4) + 4 = 8
