OOC:
Not sure which is which. I'll head toward the top of the map, which is north, I presume.

OOC:
I forgot to add the map, sorry about that. The northern branch is good. I’ll post after my girl’s gymnastics class.

You walk 80 feet down a corridor, take a right, and after your first step, Mrak becomes motionless and suspended as if in mid-air, and he cannot breathe.

The person immediately behind him realizes what has happened to Mrak: he steps into, and is engulfed by, a gelatinous cube!
OOC:
Combat starts. Players have first action, first-come, first-served, and then the ooze will act.

Mrak, since you are engulfed, an option for you would be to use your action to roll a Strength check to see if you can escape the cube unassisted. I am open to creative solutions, also.

Kevin curses and then starts to form a connection Mrak and a free space behind them

Then I do so.

Alright, Mrak is not engulfed by the ooze. Upon further, though quick, inspection, you all realize that the ooze is about 10 feet away from the person who was behind Mrak in the marching order before being put into the back, and it takes up the entirety of the space (in other words, it is a 10-foot cube of ooze).
OOC:
How do you all proceed? Kevin still has an interaction, a bonus action, and a move; and the rest of you still have your full turns (including Mrak).

Once Mrak is free, Kevin grabs a handful of ballbearings and toss them into the cube. It makes it easier to see and then take a step back
OOC:
I would imagine it looks something like this

"It is just minding its own business, keeping things clean down here."
Alin peers into the creature looking for any undissolved objects

"A beautiful ooze specimen," the druid pronounced. "Either we find a way to make it move or find another way around. I'd hate to kill it unless necessary."

Ghillie recalled what he knew of these creatures to find possible ways of prodding the gelatinous ooze to move away and ahead of them.

Mrak raises a javelin and motions to the others to clear the way. He's clearly upset about what happened.

The gelatinous cube moves 5 feet away from you all, and then slowly slides in that direction for 20 feet (5 feet per round), and then starts to slide back towards you all, 5 feet per round.
OOC:
Do you move out of the way? Attack it?

At the back, Gunnar has trouble seeing exactly what's going on. He sees Mrak in attack position, but hears Alin talking about something mind it's own business. He has yet to understand what the gelatinous cube is.

"What's happening up there, lads? Something need killing?"

OOC:
Does Ghillie's Nature roll provide any insight into the creature's behaviour and possible ways to exploit/influence it??
Jun 6, 2022 9:51 pm
OOC:
Based on what you know about oozes, you suspect that it is not behaving naturally.

When you hear Alin's suggestion about it cleaning the place, you have heard of this use for oozes like this one in the nation of Droaam - it is kind of like a Roomba, of sorts.

"A gelatinous cube, dwarf-friend, but it doesn't seem aggressive. It isn't moving naturally. It may be controlled to clean these halls. Putting aside the fact that someone wants these ruins spick and span, let's see which way it's going generally: away from or toward us."

Ghillie looked to see how dusty and dirty the way they'd just come from was and compared it to how the floor looked ahead of them which the ooze had slid over.

Perception - (1d20+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

Gunnar backs up to give the men in front of him some space to move in case things turn ugly and keeps his axe at the ready.

"A gelatinous cube? I thought those things were just fairy tales the old-timers told the wee dwarves to keep us from going down the off-limit tunnels."
Jun 7, 2022 11:19 pm
"I would suppose they are not actually cube shaped in natural caves, there would be little point in that. I could be wrong about cleaning though, it could be guarding the tunnel, sliding back and forth endlessly. That seems rather dull." Alin ponders "Krinn, must we go down this particular tunnel?"
Jun 8, 2022 5:56 am
Kevin grunts an affirmative as Alin querries Krinn

Perhaps I can move the cube behind us with the same trik I used on Mrak
