Hi Everybody. Bogged down with work today and won't be able to post detailed character gen stuff til tonight. Thumbnail sketch - I'm picturing my character coming from a plane where sentient motile vegetation is the dominant life form. Their world has been suffering from a creeping blight for several centuries that has slowly but inexorably rendered the land and seas barren and infertile. Scholars, theologians and arcanologists tried to find ways to reverse the phenomenon to no avail, while the rulers selectively hybridized new sprouts in an effort to produce a 'chosen one' that might deliver the people and world from the cataclysm. My character would be one of these 'chosen few,' the last survivor, who carries with them the burden of, and sense of responsibility for, the failed hopes and expectations of an entire world.
Addendum: They arrived in the city courtesy of a planar travelling Collector, who maintains a private menagerie of flora and fauna from dead worlds. In exchange for providing their own sprouts to populate the collectors menagerie and assistance collecting other specimen, the character was given passage to the City. The knowledge that somewhere, out there, a fragment of their lost world and people still exist is what keeps them going; and the search for the identity of the mysterious collector and the whereabouts of the menagerie is everpresent in their mind.
Note: For simplicity's sake, I've used they/their for this character in the blurb above as a placeholder for the term a civilization which is essentially hermaphroditic and self-generating would actually use (tentatively
zhe /zhir). I'll use the 'correct' pronoun TBD later.
