Fading flasks

Dean grabs a nearby jug and infuses it into a alchemy jug, he also creates a set of woodworking tools and attempts to take the chest apart.

He creates acid with his jug, replacing the reloading infusion, and collects it into the available vials, he pours some on the cage, Hoping that it will melt, then he checks on Hawk.
Jun 24, 2022 8:58 am
Acid on the cage works, but slowly. The metal darkens, and while the acid works, gives the chest some attention. By the time he has forced the chests lock, and recovered the rest of his equipment, he checks on the acid. There has been a clear effect, but it is going to need a lot more acid and time to break through.

At this point, he can hear someone coming on the other side of the door. They stop at his door, and he can hear someone working to unlock it.
OOC:
What does Dean do?
Jun 24, 2022 4:37 pm
Dean quickly uses the rest of his 8 ounces of acid on the cage while snuffing out the light in the room and equipping his night-vision goggles. Then he hides somewhere in the room, behind one of the larger furniture pieces. He holds his loaded gun in one hand and a healing root in the other, once the person will enter he will use the root as a distraction, by throwing it across the room.

He silently hopes that Hawk will be already freed by the time the person will enter the room.

OOC:
just to be clear - it will take days to dissolve the enchanted bars with acid. Do you still want to proceed with this plan?
Jun 25, 2022 7:08 pm
OOC:
oh... It's that slow... Then no... Then he will grab the vials ready to throw them at whoever comes inside, after distracting them with something else ... Acid + glass piecies is a really bad combo ...

Dean is hiding behind the work table, with a flask of acid and a loaded gun. The door opens and light from the hallway cast shadows on the floor before Dean. Two shadows look like armoured guards, with helmets and sharp angles on their shoulders (properly armour). The third shadow, is much softer, like a balled man without armour, but in soft comfortable robes.
Hello? This is the right room right? Oh there is the bird, then we are in the right place. An elder voice says.
Show yourself boy! We are not here to harm you.
OOC:
Dean is fully hidden, for now, if you want to attack, then you have the surprise round and then roll initiative.
Jun 26, 2022 5:39 pm
Those are clearly lies ... first Dean Will use his mage hand to slam the door shut behind the man, then in complete darkness he will attempt to manuver his way trough the room towards the comfortably robed man, his plan is to have him at the gunpoint before he even notices the lad...

Hawk
When the new arrivals walk by the caged bird, Hawk will attempt to distract them by spewing atrocities and making as much noise as possible to help Dean with his plan.
OOC:
So... How do you treat point-blank shots in your games?
Jun 27, 2022 9:57 am
OOC:
You have disadvantage when shooting while in melee. Feets like crossbow expert can fix that
Hawk can distract, offering you a help action giving you an advantage on the attack roll on the distracted sage

When you roll attack and initiative then you are committed to this outcome. Untill you do I assume that this is a options discussion

OOC:
Note taken, thanks!
INNITIATIVE
Quote:

we can go with this idea. His bonus round action will be throwing acid at the distracted Sage, when Hawk distracts him.
OOC:
ouch, nat 1...

Rolls

Initiative - (1d20+3)

(1) + 3 = 4

Strength check (attack with acid flask) - (1d20+2)

(9) + 2 = 11

Strength check (attack with acid flask) advantage - (1d20+2)

(8) + 2 = 10

make your attack roll. You have the surprise round

Rolls

Ini: Sage - (1d20+1)

(11) + 1 = 12

Ini: Guards - (1d20+1)

(16) + 1 = 17

i already did, in the last post.... It's 11. Having help didn't help much 😂.... Damn i love how ironic that sounds....

Dean closes the door with his mage hand and tosses the flask of acid. It hit the cealing, but the acid splash all over the sage. He screams in pain and terror. Behind him guards reopens the door and enters the room. The sage points his finger in your direction and utters some arcane words.
Fire sprews forth in your general direction and Dean is only slightly hurt
OOC:
3 fire damage
The guards moves around the table and quickly find Dean hiding, now there is light from the hallway and small items on fire.

alright. Now 4 questions, if you don't mind.
1. is Dean considered in dim light or darkness from his location?
2. Is Hawks cage attached to the stand or is it on a hook?
3. Did the acid distract the sage?
4. Can hawk still efficiently use help action or attack from his cage? Against who?

Dim light, hiding behind a table, akin to prone. That dimlight disadvantage cancelled out the prone advantage

OOC:
2. Is Hawks cage attached to the stand or is it on a hook?
The cage is sitting on the table
Bubbles says:
OOC:
3. Did the acid distract the sage?
The acid almost killed the sage

OOC:
4. Can hawk still efficiently use help action or attack from his cage? Against who?
I would say that he can help once more before they totally ignore him

Alright, last question, would picking up hawks cage be considered an action? (Asking because not all DMS follow the same thing when it comes to specifics...)

yes, as it is not a small object - its about 70x70 cm

Made a quick ugly sketch - but hopefully it gets the idea across

OOC:
Thanks for the nice sketch! Hawk looks pissed... XD
Dean will aim his revolver at the sage and shoot him, while hawk distracts the guards. If it is possible to, move towards Hawk, without provoking an attack of opportunity. Dean would like to do that too.
OOC:
AC 15 HP 24/27

Rolls

Pistol to hit - (1d20+5)

(14) + 5 = 19

Pistol damage - (1d10+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

Dean ends the sages terrible pain by shooting him in the head. The sage is dead
The guards are standing on either side of the table, boxing Dean in, so moving to hawks cage is not possible.
OOC:
Auch! 15 damage, leaving dean with 9 hp

Rolls

Guard 1 AC15 - (1d20+3, 1d8+1)

1d20+3 : (19) + 3 = 22

1d8+1 : (6) + 1 = 7

Guard 2 AC15 - (1d20+3, 1d8+1)

1d20+3 : (12) + 3 = 15

1d8+1 : (7) + 1 = 8

Did hawks help action not work? Or am i missing something? 😅

Now that I look at it, it looks like it did nothing on the 1st round too.... Or did i not do something properly, like call out an action in ooc? Could you please explain? I believe that the problem is obvious from your perspective ....

I'm sorry if this is excessive, i have had a hard week, so I'm trying to figure out everything...

hawks help action, can help you. It can't give them a disadvantage, but it can give you an advantage.
Surprise round, hawk distracted the sage, giving you advantage on the attack. As you hit the AC 10, I didn't roll the advantage
First round, sage cast spell, guards attacked, you killed sage.

Next round: Hawk can distract one guard, giving you an advantage to attack. If you are using ranged attack in melee, you have disadvantage, that the help action negates, resulting in a normal attack, with the pistol.

My intention with this captivity was that you over days freed hawk, and the sage explored the reasons for your unique healing potion abilities. Then with some preparations, you could make your escape. I imagined a kind of Ironman in the Afghanistan caves kind of thing (starting of the first Ironman movie).

You are fighting 2 CR 1/8 guards, but I still fear that this adventure could end soon in a TPK. But it is your turn
