Venemar sees if he can detect evil beyond the door. The freed slaves had said there would be three guards there but the ability has a range of 60ft. He checks to see if there are any enemies close.

Venemar, you do sense evil beyond the portal.

The Magus, an older man, trudged along the large band of warriors without much commentary after the previous battle. He had helped by knocking a few foes unconscious, but those who knew the man also knew he had few such powerful incantations at his disposal. He kept quiet before the bronze door, looking around erratically, his excited mind over-interpreting every sound and water drop as a potential threat. He sweat profusely in his silence, the tension of this incursion reaching an unbearable point. He attempted to control himself, but his breathing suggested he was not having great success despite his endeavours.
OOC:
Not sure I understood. Is the bronze door locked ? In any case, there's not much Albionus can do. He's down to a single 1st level spell of limited usefulness under present circumstances.

OOC:
The door does not seem to be locked, but Venemar senses evil from just beyond.
May 24, 2023 8:36 am
"So," the robe clad man's voice whispered a tad too loudly for comfort, "are you brawny folks going to open that? They're only three sea devils in there, and we've a small army here."
OOC:
Not wanting to put pressure, but Albionus is neurotically concerned with the risk that our warband might get pinned within these slimy corridors. He feels speed is of the essence.

Blind monkey breath hold a piece of his cloth in his hand and open the door quickly, firing 3 shuriken to the first enemy he sees.

You eat dust, baddies !

Venemar rushes in after Blind Monkey, drawing his sword. He will attack the first Sahuagin he encounters.
OOC:

OOC:
With this crowd, three guards should not be a challenge.
The door is opened, surprising the guards, who are taken without much of a struggle and with no losses. You have entered an area of plain, dressed stone with archways leading north, east, and west. A stone bench runs along the south wall. Set in the north wall, next to the northbound archway, is a metal gate sealing off another opening to the north. To the east of the gate a mechanism, with a wheel, chains, and various pulleys, is attached to the wall.

"Well done! Well done!", the magus exclaimed nervously, patting random warriors on the back for yet another challenge overcome. "Now let us look at this mechanism..." he stated, as he approached, not ready to touch anything as of yet.
OOC:
Looking at the map, is it obvious that the wheel operates the metal door, while the NW and W doors are "ordinary" doors? We were told that a human prisoner was kept here, correct? Can anything be seen through the NE door, the one that looks like a portcullis or a barred passage?
Jun 2, 2023 3:53 pm
Blind Monkey retrieves his shuriken and wipe them clean.
Jun 2, 2023 5:37 pm
OOC:
Yes, the wheel operates the portcullis over the NE passage. The room beyond the portal is deep and dark, but there is something moving at the back of the long, narrow chamber.
Jun 2, 2023 6:28 pm
Blind Monkey goes there prudently trying to find out what is moving there.

Calm, we don't harm you want.

"Captain Venemar, do you sense the taint of foul intentions beyond the portcullis?" Albionus asked, as he hesitated to touch the winch mechanism. He whispered towards his ill-tempered avian familiar. "What say you, Archibald. Can your owl eyes pierce the darkness?"
OOC:
Hoping the familiar or Venemar can tell more about whatever lurks in the dark.

Venemar wipes his sword clean before returning it to its sheath. He moves towards the mechanism while peering into the gloom, trying to make out what is moving at the end of the chamber. He tries to see if he can detect evil, both at the end of the chamber and also beyond the portcullis.
"Let me see, but this ability only detects evil within sixty feet."

Archibald hoots once, and Venemar reaches out with his ability but finds no evil lurking in the darkness.
Jun 6, 2023 1:39 pm
Albionus looked at his owl with a puzzled expression.
OOC:
I believe we had established that OSRIC familiars can't speak, but here, Archibald had been able to convey some information about what it had been able to see. Can Albionus interpret the sens of Archibald's solitary hoot?
Jun 6, 2023 4:12 pm
Albionus gets the sense that there is a single creature waiting in the darkness, humanoid in form. It appears to be huddled in a far corner.

Blind monkey advanced gently toin the cell hand up

No harm we want, if help we can, we do !
