OOC:
Anyone who wants to try to learn about the dust packet, roll an arcana check.
Aug 15, 2016 6:44 am
After spending two full minutes on repairing the satchel, Ramiel takes a bit of the fine dust that spilled and ran the grains between his fingers.
OOC:
Yes, one per tear I think.

Rolls

Arcana - (1d20+3)

(11) + 3 = 14

Ramiel, after spending a bit more time with the dust, it finally clicks. This is the driest dust he has ever felt, so dry it feels like it saps the moisture out of his hands and immediate surrounding air. Unrelated to the dust, you get an odd sensation coming from the northern tunnel.
OOC:
Dust of Dryness: This small packet contains 8 pinches of dust. You can use an action to sprinkle a pinch of it over water. The dust turns a cube of water 15 feet on a side into one marble-sized pellet, which floats or rests near where the dust was sprinkled. The pellet's weight is negligible. Someone can use an action to smash the pellet against a hard surface, causing the pellet to shatter and release the water the dust absorbed. Doing so ends that pellet's magic.
An elemental composed mostly of water that is exposed to a pinch of the dust must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 10d6 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

"Hmm. . ." Ramiel takes a look at the north with his half-elven eyes. What is this uneasy feeling?

Rolls

Arcana check the north - (1d20+3)

(18) + 3 = 21

Ramiel stares intently at the north, for a few seconds. What is this unease everyone is feeling? Staring at the empty hallway, it start to feel a little pointless, but then, for a split second the air shimmers and shines, barely noticable. It clicks once again for Ramiel, that is an alarm spell.

"Whoever set up this place has that tunnel warded with an alarm spell." Ramiel said, pointing to the northern tunnel. "I have no means of disabling that spell short of triggering it, so I would suggest that we go that way. . .last."

"Whoa, maybe they don't want us going that way," says Silene, marveling at her newfound revelation. "But, like, what's the reason? Is that where they live?"
Aug 16, 2016 12:52 am
"Or that there is something bad that comes from that direction." Ramiel mused. "Perhaps something that shows up periodically, but can be beaten back? Just guessing, really."

Sheathing her blade Béke looks intently at the area where Ramiel indicated. "Good eyes, Ramiel. Perhaps when the time comes we can set a trap for whoever may be alerted with such an alarm."

"Shall we continue on then?"
Aug 16, 2016 3:24 am
"I say we go this way." Ramiel said as he headed south. "I am not exactly thrilled to get wet just yet."

Béke nods in agreement..

You guys start making your way down, getting about 50 feet before coming into view of a room. Rows of long tables hog most of the space in this filthy room. Dozens of metal cages sit atop the tables, most containing rats of all shapes and sizes. The air is filled with the sound of chittering and the foul smell of rat droppings.
As you approach the entrance, a voice squeaks in your head, "Stay your weapons! Nibbles wishes to speak with you. Perhaps we can help each other out?"
Aug 16, 2016 5:26 am
"Well would you look at that. A rat that communicates through telepathy." Ramiel said in wonder. "This Rat-King guy might have terrible handwriting, but he is good at what he does. . .Unless, well this Nibbles might just BE the Rat-King. It would certainly explain the handwriting."

"Whoa," says Silene, a dark tone in her voice. "Not good. This is not good." She repeats the mantra, shaking her head, and the flame in her hand flares brightly.
Aug 16, 2016 6:24 am
You hear the voice echo through your head again "Please, I assure you I am not the rat-king. Perhaps it isn't the best situation, but I can guarantee it could get a LOT worse. I say that not as a threat but as a hopeful deterrent. We have a common goal, we both want the rat-king gone."
Aug 16, 2016 6:56 am
"Is that right? Why don't you show yourself first?" Ramiel asks, unsure which of these hundreds of rats is actually Nibbles. "So we can discuss this like proper gentlemen."
Aug 16, 2016 7:22 am
You hear the voice again, but not in your head this time, this time it is audible "Very well." and with that you see a shimmer of light as a rat sitting on a table at the entrance comes into view. The first thing that immediately catches your attention is he is an albino rat with an unusually large cranium. "My name is Nibbles Pinkerton, I was chosen by the rat-king to become second in command. In which, I was awakened and given magical augmentations, giving me heightened intelligence; attributing to my nickname 'Brains'. However, for the past few week, the rat-king has buried himself in his latest experiments, neglecting me in the process. The rat-king has slowly descended into madness and, at least I think, his schemes should be stopped. Luckily, you lot come along, allowing me the opportunity to switch allegiances. I offer information in exchange for allowing me to join you at least until the surface."

"I am not dreaming in my room right now, right? That fiery grog is something else." Ramiel is unable to advert his gaze from the talking rat.

Silene drifts over to the nearest occupied cage. With her hand held above, she inspects the contraption for the means to open it.
