Silene's hand flares up with light as she replenishes the fire. She holds the shovel out for its original owner to retrieve.

Gala retrieves the shovel

"We could keep going this way, or we can test the ooze theory." Ramiel shrugs non-nonchalantly. "There is also another skeleton at the dry fork that we have not examined. I think we should do that before we go further."

I'm all fer investigatin' as much as we can.
Sep 13, 2016 11:21 pm
"Skeleton it is then" Béke concurs. "But let's make it quick, I believe our real work lies behind the door."

You guys make your way to the fork and exit the water. The skeletal remains of a robed humanoid leans against the wall at the entrance of this chamber, its bony hand clutching a yellowed piece of paper and a lantern by its side. The entire ceiling of this chasm drips downward with hundreds of stalactites of various sizes. At the end of the chamber, laying on a raised platform, is an exquisite warhammer that glows blue in the darkness and emits a faint humming noise that reverberates softly throughout the chamber.

"Well that looks a little too important to be sitting in the middle of a cave." Ramiel said with a grin, pointing at the exquisite hammer. "Before we do that though. . ."

The nobleman leans over the skeleton and removes the paper from its crumbling fingers, trying to decipher if the woman left an important note before she died.

Ramiel picks up the scroll and upon unrolling it sees, hastily written, beautifully script. Being half-elf, he recognizes the words as elvish. "The chamber ahead is packed with darkmantles. They caught us unaware. Too many to fight off. I managed to escape the attack but my wounds are fatal. Dying here, in sight of Storm's Herald, makes my failure even more bitter. Retrieve the hammer and bring it to Lord Stormkirk. He will reward you handsomely." turning the scroll over, you find it is a scroll of silence.
Sep 14, 2016 3:49 am
"Thought so." Ramiel smirked knowingly. "There hammer is not unprotected."
OOC:
What race was the girl who asked us to look for her grandmother back at the tavern? And what do I know of darkmantles?
Sep 14, 2016 4:07 am
OOC:
Sorry, I didn't put what she was when I introduced her, she was an elf.
For the darkmantle knowledge roll an arcana check.
Sep 14, 2016 5:25 am
"This right here might be the missing grandmother. . .from the looks of her handwriting, she was probably an elf." Ramiel mused.

What are Dark Mantles? - (1d20+3)

HypCo sent a note to Sampai
Sep 14, 2016 5:45 am
"As for the darkmantles, they are flying squids that attach themselves to the ceiling and drop on unsuspecting foes. I don't know how many of them there are in this cave, but I am guessing enough to kill this poor woman and her friends. They hunt through echolocation, so if they can't hear us. . ." Ramiel turned over the note once more and looked at the scroll of silence. "The good lady here left us a scroll of silence. It should effectively blind the stupid things, possibly allowing us to reach that hammer without being attacked."
OOC:
How far is the hammer?
Sep 14, 2016 5:54 am
OOC:
It is about 125 feet away. The only reason you can see it is because of the blue glow that emanates from it.
Sep 14, 2016 2:43 pm
"I don't think the spell can protect us for that far of a distance. However, should we be attacked by the darkmantles, it might render them blind for a few minutes. What should we do?" Ramiel continued.

"Like, maybe we need more light," offers Silene. She takes a torch from her pack and lights it with the flames around her hand. She then throws the torch down the passageway as far as she can.
Sep 14, 2016 7:05 pm
Silene tosses the lit torch, sending it about 20 or so feet. As soon as it clatters onto the ground, in a split second, you see barely a blur swoop down then swoop back up.
Sep 14, 2016 8:57 pm
OOC:
Was the torch taken, or is it still lying on the ground?
Silene says, "That kinda gives me an idea." She tests her theory by pinching her last two fingers upon her thumb, with her pointer and middle fingers held up, and makes the quiet guttural sound. Through her Druidcraft, this sound emits 30 feet down the passageway, like a small rabbit is on the ground.
Sep 14, 2016 9:06 pm
The sound of a small rabbit echoes through the chamber, as soon as it does, three darkmantles swoop down. After a few seconds of trying to get the sound they realize nothing is there they swoop back up.
OOC:
The torch was attempted to be taken but the fire dissuaded the darkmantle.
Sep 14, 2016 10:27 pm
"I wonder if a loud enough sound would distract them from any sounds that we may make. Would anyone happen to have some way to make a continuous loud noise"
