OOC:
Yes, Alexander managed to get this thing out of the grave, and it has blood on it :D

Maybe it is a disease of the flesh, they suffer.... Roderick shoos off these dim-witted, decomposing labourers.
"Off you go! Get out of my sight before I order the dogs to tear you apart!! I do not want to see your filthy presence on Rookwood land ever again! You hear?? NOW, GO!!!! "

He turns his back to the withdrawing things, his heart thumping much faster than he wished, in his old chest.

Walking back towards the graveyard, he sees some commotion ahead, near a freshly dug grave. What now? are the young Rookwood making a show of their ineptitude already??

"Alexander?... Claire?... stop frolicking like children! Show some respect for our ancestors! This is a sacred..." he stops in his tracks, spotting Alexander down in the grave, with a strange statue!

Can that be? How? Why here??!!

The others see the octogenarian turn a whiter shade of pale.

OOC:
Right. Claire is being abducted by some weird monster, but Alexander holding a little statue, that's the weird part πŸ˜†
Nov 15, 2022 9:21 am
OOC:
I figured ol' Rod didn't see her: Nathaniel just caught a glimpse, and Rod arrived later on the scene
Nov 15, 2022 4:24 pm
OOC:
Just the statue I think, cbm. CSN: Is the statue small enough to haul out of the grave?
Alexander continues hauling himself up from the grave and points toward the strange figure absconding with his cousin. "That... thing has Claire! Stop right where you are, you lowborn miscreant!"

Yeah yeah, it's a regular sized bust you can carry around. Maybe a bit on the heavy side, but nothing major.

So I guess Roderick is not going to notice it, and Claire is a bit busy being kidnapped. But this guy is taking her away unless someone stops him
Nov 16, 2022 10:53 am
Roderick turns to look in the direction Alexander is pointing at, and sees something dragging Claire away among the grave headstones!

"Claire! No!!"

So that's 2 successes and it doesn't kill you :D

You not only manage to delay the kidnapper, he drops Claire to avoid you

@Dr_B Do you want to describe how that plays out?

OOC:
avec plaisir!
As he calls out the name of Claire in an alarmed desperate tone, Roderick instinctively stomps the ground with one foot. His face becomes ashen and immobile for a brief moment, as if it was a mask made of stone. From under his foot, a strange vibration propels forward, causing the soil to bulge slightly, as if a subterranean creature was moving from his foot towards the kidnapper.

The vibration advances fast zigzagging among the gravestones, eventually reaching an ancient marble statue depicting an angel, that adorns a tomb.

The stone angel cracks at its base with a deep grinding noise, and it topples, its heavy mass falling at the passage of Claire's kidnapping creature! Its stone wing smashes hard against the creature, who loses its footing at the tremendous impact, letting go of Claire.

Roderick straightens, his countenance returning normal, in time to see the creature falling under the statue, and Claire being released!
Nov 18, 2022 5:25 am
Claire scrambles away from her would-be kidnapper, crawling in a panic on all fours through the mud to put any distance between herself and him. Once she is a bit away from him, she struggles to her feet and throws herself into Elias' arms, tears of fear streaking down her face.

Elias
Elias is surprised when Claire flies into his arms crying. The man wasn't paying much attention to what was happening but now, he turns to the creature that is struggling to regain it's footing. He looks at no one next to him, as if waiting for a reply to an unasked question.
OOC:
I think i lost the stats for Elias, but he's body based so let's make him 3/1/1. He is using his curse. Risk being stunned or getting confusing information. Rewards, learning about what is going on, identifying the creature.

Rolled doubles: Fatigue (drop brawl die) + mark
"You there!" Elias stands straight as he shouts to the creature. He doesn't push Claire away, but doing so forces the smaller girl to step back a little... and when she does so, Claire is surprised as she can suddenly see through Elias... Not completely, but for a moment, she was sure she could see the shapes of the tombstones behind him. "Are you with the Ceremony's master?"

Kidnapper
The creature looks furious at Roderick. A fury that runs deeper than than a simple statue falling on him. A statue he knows was Roderick's doing. He's attention is then turned to the stone bust Alexander is holding. He growls at it as he stands up, apparently unaffected by the massive blow he just took. He steps forward in Alexander's and Nathaniel's direction as the cat jumps away from the grave.

But then Elias shouts. The creature looks towards him. "What are you doing there crazy woman? Leave your nephew in peace." The creature explodes angrily pointing to the empty space next to Elias. "Come back here little girl. You must follow me! " He shouts as he prepares to fight his way to get Claire.

Nathaniel step between Claire and the creature "She will do no such thing!" He says, not sure what's goin on, why the creature thinks Elias is Claire's nephew, or where this sudden surge of bravery came from
OOC:
oh man, that monster rolled so well.
Nov 22, 2022 6:50 pm
OOC:
No idea how basically anything works in this game, but I do have 3 Brawl dice. Does that mean I am best off attacking the thing? Maybe pummeling it with my statue?
Alexander stands up slowly to his full height, keeping the pagan bust in both hands until slowing letting it fall to one side. With the creature's gaze falling on the statue, he narrows his own eyes. "Time to teach this interloper what it means to cross the Rookwoods..."
Nov 24, 2022 1:20 pm
OOC:
Ok, sorry for the delay. This is how I think the "boss" should go.

1) Everyone has one action (like the two above) to prevent him from getting Claire.

That could be anything, run, throw the cat at him, make unfounded claims about his mother, drop that bust on his skull, use your curse, etc.

2) You roll whatever you want that matches your action and you tell me how it can go wrong (what is the risk).

Maybe he turns against you and punch you back, maybe he knows something about your mother instead, or the cat isn't very fond of being thrown and he scratches back at you. Up to you :D

3) You can always decide not to oppose him as well, and let it play out as it will. Maybe your character is just frozen in panic, or too far to do anything?

4) I'll sum up the successes and if it is above the secret number, Claire escapes for now. Let me know, in a secret note, if you buy off the risk, or suffer it.

As this is going on, Claire just slowly steps backwards, trying to fade from the attacker's immediate attention...

OOC:
I'm not going to pass up a chance to fastball special a cat! I think one of each die makes sense.Risks would be the cat is no longer our ally (assuming it was in the first place) or his curse activating
Nathaniel looks at the creature in horror, and realizes he has to do something to help. He looks around for anything he can use as a weapon, when his gaze falls upon the cat. He raises an eyebrow "Time for an impromptu expiriment into the hypothetical supernatural properties of this feline." he quickly says before attempting to hurl the cat at their enemy.

Somehow Roderick senses the century old stones of the graveyard... even below the graveyard.

He now calls upon these ancient stone guardians to stop this blasphemous creature, to protect the youngest of the line.
