Chapter 4: Master Of Puppets

Jul 13, 2022 6:29 pm
The group successfully returns to the camp but everything is mysterious. The people here either do their usual tasks or dig a pit at a site that hasn't been examined until now.
They don't react to calling, waving or touches. They just wander around without any interaction whatsoever.
You look around and try to decide what to do...
OOC:
So far you haven't had the chance to thoroughly search the camp. You just observed that everyone seems to be... not here, at least with their mind

OOC:
Did our stay at the druids' count as a long rest?
Melianne watches the camp in fear, tension in her posture obvious. "I told you we should've gone back," she mutters quietly, clutching her hands in each other - although her words sound less accusatory and more concerned. She tries, unsuccessfully, to wave her hand before one of the worker's eyes. "They are digging, so it must be some kind of magic from... below?.. Oh no, Hjalmar!"

The moment she remembers the archeologist, the dancer abandons the rest of the group and runs further into the camp, trying to find him or Astrid.

"Well, this all seems ominously like what that dessicated old bastard we found in the temple was trying to do to me - 'You are worthy to serve,' and all that. We're sure we destroyed that thing, right? Think there's another one around?"
Jul 15, 2022 10:13 pm
Well, this was an unwelcome, albeit fascinating development. Aravel had heard some of the exploits of the group and that there had been some form of undead somesuch underground in the old ruins. Sadly he had not had a chance to look there himself. Something they could rectify shortly.
"Perhaps another look at the site where you encountered said ancient individual would be prudent? If not there, I would venture a guess the locals are trying to excavate the entrance to this ahhh, new location."
Jul 16, 2022 5:30 am
OOC:
Is anyone missing among the camp inhabitants?
"This must be some powerful, evil magic," says Krenmuth, suddenly aware how obvious that sounds. "It looks to me that whoever, or whatever, is down there wants to get out. But I think the first thing we need to do is find a way to free our people."

The cleric gets a pained look on his face. "Could an artifact from the ruins be responsible for this?"
Jul 16, 2022 12:42 pm
Tharadin's hairs stand up as he watches the camp inhabitants moving around like fleshy automatons. "I don't know about magics, but if one of you can point the thing out I can break it." he says gruffly. "What could have done this?"
Jul 17, 2022 11:56 pm
Melianne runs to the archeologists' camp but doesn't find either Hjalmar or Astrid.
She looks at the people digging the pit but no one looks even closely like the two archeologists.
As you have a look around you notice that two people seem to be guarding the entrance to the temple you investigated previously. You think you recognize them as two guards who watched over the northern entrance to the camp. They are as non responsive as the others but are carrying spears. As soon as you near them they thrust their spears at you. Luckily you can easily avoid their attack but nevertheless they probably won't let you past them voluntarily...

Krenmuth investigates the camp a bit. Apart from the archeologists some people he knows are missing but they could be on a reconnaissance mission.
He has a look at the building where Korsak's office is located. Korsak doesn't seem to be here or elsewhere in the camp. Very mysterious.

Melianne is distraught after finding no sign of the archeologists, and stops in the clearing before the temple, just out of reach of the two guards. "Maybe it is the strange contraption that we found below?" She bites her lip, eyeing the doors, an idea forming in her mind. "We never figured out what it was for... It looked like an orrery and was protected by magical barrier no one found a way to break." The last words are directed towards Aravel and Tharadin, as she realizes neither of them probably knows the details. "And there was also a scepter with a green gem the mummy had. I gave it to Korsak afterwards."

The dancer sighs, pulling at her silks. "It's probably one of these at fault. Are we... going to fight our way into the temple?" There is a surprisingly bloodthirsty note in her words; perhaps where it comes to personal causes, Melianne's pacifism takes a backseat.

Krenmuth says to Melianne, "If someone doesn't want us back in the temple, then I think that's where we have to go."

Then the cleric tells the group, "Several people are missing, including the archeologists, and that can't be a coincidence. First, though, I'd like to help these people here if we can. I am going to walk through the camp to search for the source of this evil magic. This will take several minutes. Would anyone mind looking for the items we brought up?"
OOC:
Action: Krenmuth casts Detect Evil and Good, then walks through the camp and digging site.

"Trying to locate those items is a good start. That mummified creature also mentioned a High Mage, who may also be up and about. Let's take our time, and try to rule out everything we can. Lead on, Wavewarden."

If Krenmuth's spell won't help, I also have Detect Magic.
"It certainly won't hurt! But unless the scepter is at Korsak's office or wherever the archeologists' tent is, then it's probably with him... And he is missing too." Melianne follows after the Wavewarden, looking around for a while before shifting to mostly staring under her feet, disheartened by the unnatural way the camp inhabitants are behaving. "The Tree back at Owl-Claw-Clan mentioned a descent, so to speak, and a druid told me of an ancient city underground, underneath these digging sites. Maybe all of the missing people are there, down below..." She shivers.

OOC:

.
Melianne searches for Rada and Phann and finds them digging at the site, Rada holding a bucket and Phann shoveling dirt into it, both with the same empty look as everyone else.

Krenmuth meanwhile investigates the camp.
The sceptre of the mummy is not in Korsak's office and so he can't investigate it but he can make out two sources of evil.
The dug up temple where you fought the undead irradiates pure evil. The feeling is so strong that he thinks he can see black and green swirls from the corner of his eyes when he looks at the temple
And when Krenmuth walks over the dig site he has a sinking feeling in his stomach region but it's very weak. Probably the soil is still shielding most of the evil influence from below.
Jul 19, 2022 6:50 pm
"Yees, yees, ancients cities far below are what I'm here for!" Aravel said with confidence to Melianne.
"The elven ones though, but these may have clues to them. So let's be off. As for killing the guards, the poor folk are under the influence of a spell, so let's not harm them, eh? A sleep spell hopefully will suffice."

The young races are susceptible to such simple magics, after all..
Jul 20, 2022 5:11 am
Krenmuth is pained as he stops by the dig site. "The evil below this place should stay where it is. Can anyone think of an idea to impede our friends' digging efforts? I would hate for them to succeed while we're underground."
Jul 20, 2022 6:00 am
Annika shrugs. "We could just take their tools off them. They're not going to get very far digging with their hands. They might become violent if we interfere with their work, though - I think it's probably safest to leave them be, and return as quickly as we can."
Jul 20, 2022 9:24 pm
"These ancient cities are elven," Melianne replies to Aravel while Annika and Krenmuth discuss what to do about the digging process. "According to the druid, this region had a number of kingdoms, their territories spanning all the way to the mountains. A settlement of one of these kingdoms is allegedly below us, somewhere... This kingdom had a crest of three flower petals, if it tells anything to you?"
OOC:
(Nothing to offer for stopping the digging.)

So to summarize:
-You came back to the camp and everyone is mindlessly digging at a spot that hasn't been investigated beforehand
-A few people are missing, most notably Hjalmar, Astrid and Korsak
-What's also missing is the sceptre that the mummy in the temple was carrying.
-The entrance to the temple that you've already cleared out is guarded by two workers carrying spears. While they won't pose much of a threat to seasoned adventurers like you, they will try to hinder you from entering the temple.

If you try to wrangle tools from one of the workers they will try to hold on to it but won't fight. You will be able to get the tools from them after all but as soon as you let them go they will try to get another shovel or pickaxe and continue working.
You could try to collect all tools and "disarm" the workers in order to stop the digging or try to find the source of the mind control which probably is in the dug-out temple before the workers dig up whatever is below the soil...
Jul 26, 2022 6:24 am
"Annika, I agree. I think we need to head underground as soon as possible. But I just thought of something that might help."

Krenmuth address the group. "Wouldn't it slow the workers down if the dirt was turned into mud? Does anyone have any spells to make that happen?"
Jul 27, 2022 12:58 pm
Melianne taps a finger on her chin, thinking. "I only have magical herbs which will make spikes sprout from the ground, but I fear that it will not dissuade someone hypnotized and will only make them hurt themselves in the process. I can also heat up metal, but it would only work for one tool at a time, and only if it had a metal grip... Afraid I've got nothing." She sighs.
Jul 27, 2022 2:55 pm
Annika shakes her head. "Sorry. That's not my kind of magic."
Jul 29, 2022 12:26 pm
OOC:
If you want to go the 'muddy road' remember that there is a river nearby. You could form a bucket chain or something like that if you like.
Jul 29, 2022 9:30 pm
OOC:
I think the getting water from the river to muddy up the dig site would take too much time. I think Krenmuth would prefer more immediate action, since it appears some of the camp's inhabitants are missing and in danger.
Jul 29, 2022 10:12 pm
OOC:
Agree. Melianne is already worried about Hjalmar, she would prefer to look for the missing people over blocking the dig site.

Unless anyone has a spell for the mud plan, I propose we just confiscate most accessible of their tools and then go into the temple.
Aug 1, 2022 5:47 pm
OOC:
It will likely take them days if not weeks to excavate whatever is below, so we have plenty of time while avoiding a confrontation that might arise from confiscating their tools.

Sounds like we're all agreed to just leave them to their digging for now. Let's go!

You decide to leave the digging folks alone. You guess that after all they'll probably need at least a few days to excavate whatever is down there.

When you approach the entrance to the temple, the two people guarding the temple swing their spears in front of you.
They are clothed in leather armor and you recognize them as guards who watched over the northern entrance.
Their movements are stiff, nearly robotic, and they have the same empty look on their face.
If you want to enter the temple you will have to deal with them somehow.
OOC:
This is not a combat situation btw.
You will have no problem to get past them but depending on how you do it, no one, them, you or all of you could get hurt
Aug 3, 2022 3:07 pm
With a dismissive sniff, Aravel casts his sleep spell at the two gaurds..
Aug 3, 2022 7:51 pm
Aravel casts his spell and the two guards just drop down to the floor on their faces. You bind them with a rope you find lying around.

The way into the temple is free.
You can easily open the doors and look inside.
The temple is still as you left it but flares with green flames now line the walls and light up the interior.
Aug 6, 2022 3:25 am
Melianne barely spares a glance towards the now snoring guards as she slips inside the familiar temple hall. The atmosphere here is quite more ominous now, thanks to the green flames, but the dancer shakes off the apprehension and heads towards the eastern door, intending to poke her head in the corridor behind it. "We can go the same way we did back then, I think," she tells her companions pensively. "Main door is likely blocked. Or guarded..."
OOC:
She is checking #3 door on the old map, and refers to #2 as main. Did the archeologists clear any rubble?

Melianne slowly walks through the main hall the the door and peers through the doorframe.
Here too, torches with green flames line the wall.
She feels a tingling in her nose and it smells the same way as when a thunderstorm is about to start
But another detail catches her attention: A pile of bricks is neatly stacked at the left side of the corridor and she's pretty sure that it wasn't there when the group explored the ruins before.
The door on the right side of the corridor is open and a green, pulsing light shines through it.

Now that he was down here and with some proper lighting, Aravel studied the walls and architecture.
"Hmmmmm. Fascinating..."
OOC:
Aravel uses Historical Knowledge.
Quote:
When you enter a ruin or dungeon, you can correctly ascertain its original purpose and determine its builders, whether those were dwarves, elves, humans, yuan-ti, or some other known race. In addition, you can determine the monetary value of art objects more than a century old.
Aug 10, 2022 8:27 am
Krenmuth investigates walls. Here too he can see paintings and glyphs but they are very faded.
Submission and sacrifice seem to be the main theme of these paintings, just like in the rest of the temple.
The bricks have marks that seem to indicate that they've recently been worked on.

Aravel meanwhile has a look at the structure. It seems to have served two purposes: Worship and power channeling.
The structure would be impressive if it hadn't those pesky signs of being built by humans. They were clearly inspired by elves but the elegant ways of elven craftsmanship are overshadowed by the clunky human way of building structures
Aug 10, 2022 1:13 pm
Melianne has no interest in examining the horrible engravings once again, but she is hesitant to proceed without her companions - so she remains by the hallway door, nervously tapping her foot while waiting for Aravel and Krenmuth. "Do you think the orrery has anything to do with this?" She aks Annika as they both examine the green glow. "Korsak said they couldn't do anything about the barrier..."

"I wouldn't be surprised if they knocked through the back wall to bypass the barrier. I don't think the orrery by itself would be controlling all these people... but I suppose it could be channelling the influence of one of those undead monsters." Annika sighs. "Only one way to find out. Let's start with the pool room." She heads for the side corridor.
Aug 11, 2022 5:21 am
Krenmuth follows Annika. He keeps his thoughts to himself, since he is still bothered by the mystery of his dream. Maybe the wizard I dreamed of down here?
Aug 11, 2022 1:27 pm
As you all have a look into the pool room you see that some things have changed.
Apparently the wall was breached in order to get to the orrery behind the forcefield. An opening wide enough to let one person walk through was created.
Behind the opening you can see Astrid, Hjalmar and Korsak. While the two archeologists are frozen in place, Korsak seems to be a bit more lively. He has the sceptre you retrieved from the mummy in his hands. He holds it into the orrery and the jewel at it's top sheds a green pulsing light into the surroundings. Meanwhile his whole body constantly shifts.
His head turns to you and through clenched teeth he says: I. could. need. your. help.
It. Has. Taken. Control. Over. Everyone.

The way he talks somehow seems to affect you. You look at the orrery and think about the choices that led you here...

Melianne quickly glances around, confused by the sudden appearance of a ghostly voice and somewhat mistrustful of it. Her suspicion and startlement only grow when Annika pushes past her to attack the orrery, and the dancer instinctively tries to take a step back.

"Who... Who is talking? Show yourself!" Melianne draws her rapier, although she has no idea where to point it. "Who are you?!"
Aug 16, 2022 9:25 pm
Melianne swings her rapier through empty space as the dark energy of the eldritch blast flies by. The bolt of darkness carves a path of destruction through the delicate arms of the orrery and then hits the central orb.
A web of cracks appears on the surface of the orb, sickly green light shining through it.
What have you done!? Oh wait you won't escape! You're coming with me! a female voice hisses.
The cracks widen, the green light grows blindingly bright so that it hurts your eyes when you look at it. The sphere explodes with a load shattering noise, the whole room is bathed in light so bright that you can't see anything and it feels as if a wave of ice cold water sloshes all over you.
You feel like you are falling backwards and await the impact. The impact comes but even though it felt like falling over backwards you land on your feet.
The light is gone and it's completely dark. The air is moist and you hear some faint dripping sounds.
Aug 17, 2022 4:33 am
Melianne yelps and stumbles around, disoriented by the feeling of a fall which isn't a fall at all, as well as the sudden darkness surrounding her now. She stills after a moment, nervously looking around, trying to see anything in the inky blackness. "...Hello? Annika? Krenmuth?" Firebird calls out hesitantly, her hand with the rapier trembling slightly. "Anyone? Where are we?" She twirls around, attempting to figure out where the sound of dripping liquid is coming from, then stops. "Oh, right, I can give us light!"

She waves her free hand, summoning familiar colorful spheres of light to float around her, hopefully enough to dispel the darkness.

The lights illuminate the room. You are in a small chamber with a high ceiling that is just large enough to hold 10 or so people.
The walls are made from smooth stone blocks.
Rusted iron rings are fixed to the wall and iron manacles are hanging from some of them.
The room has one door that is made from heavily rusted iron bars. You could probably easily break them.
Astrid and Hjalmar lie in the floor, breathing but unconscious.
Korsak sits in a corner, the sceptre he held lying beside him.
He squints his eyes and looks at you.
Well.... That was one way to break the curse... he says with a weak voice
Aug 17, 2022 9:07 am
Annika was looking around the room in the darkness, but has to shield her eyes against the sudden light.

"Yes, I find violence usually works," she responds to Korsak. "Any idea where we are?"
Aug 17, 2022 3:13 pm
Korsak slowly moves his head left and right.
Looks like a dungeon cell... But where this dungeon is hard to tell. My guess is that it belongs to the ruins we are excavating.
When I...*cough* *cough*
Korsak has a short coughing fit. He stands up while leaning against the wall
As I was interacting with the sceptre I felt that someone is trapped in the ruins. And that someone wants out. Your destruction of the orrery thwarted that plan. At least for now. So I guess we are somewhere in the ruin complex. Probably underground...
I guess we should look for a way out. Is this door open?
Aug 17, 2022 6:02 pm
"I will check it," Krenmuth says as recovers from his disorientation. "Thank Valkur we are all here. I heard water dripping. Do we know where that's coming from?"

Krenmuth walks to the door. "Melianne, would you please move the lights this way?" He looks through the bars to see what's on the other side, then he tries to push (and pull) open the door. "No point in making more noise than necessary."

Melianne's ball of light sheds light through the bars and casts long shadows on the floor in front of the door.
Krenmuth peers through the bars. On the other side is another cell pretty similiar to the one you are in. The door is closed and corroded too and a skeleton is leaning at the wall there. Other than that he can't make out any significant details
Krenmuth grabs a bar of the door and the metal begins to crumble as he pushes and pulls it. With little effort he can break it off. Seems like this cell isn't really hard to escape from...
Aug 20, 2022 2:34 am
Melianne stands up on her tiptoes and peeks over Krenmuth's shoulder at the other cell, her lights floating idly behind them as the dancer squints into the darkness and winces at the sight of the skeletal remains. "This is horrible," she whispers and then carefully tries to touch the cell bars as well, to feel their state for herself. "Was us being transported here the doing of the voices which spoke earlier? Are they the ones who Korsak felt were trapped here?"

She pauses, then glances around the cells. "...And are there any three petals anywhere?" The question is something of a non-sequitur, so Melianne quickly adds: "The Tree advised me to look for them if I... fall underground."
Aug 20, 2022 8:36 am
Annika arches an eyebrow. "I don't expect to find many flowers down here, but we'll keep an eye out. My main worry is that our enemy, whoever this trapped creature may be, can send us straight to jail - even though the jail itself may not be in a condition to hold us, that's a degree of magic more powerful than anything we've faced before."
Aug 20, 2022 4:07 pm
Aravel arched an imperious eyebrow at Melianne at the mention of three petals, but instead of engaging that line of questioning her elegantle bowed over to pick up the broken scepter for further study. It seemed likely it held the power of transportation that got them here. Rather disconcertingly, he was well aware that the rest of the complex held no way to reach the surface, hence the excavation effort. Then again, he could breathe, so not all was lost just yet. Over the scepter he glanced down his nose at Annika.

"And, pray tell, what exactly did you face before?"
Aug 20, 2022 7:25 pm
"Not real flowers, a crest. I mentioned it to Aravel while we were walking towards the dig site: there were once elven kingdoms in this land, and one of them had a city somewhere in the area of this temple. It had a crest of three petals, directed towards one center point, similar to a flower." She gestures with her hand in the air, trying to indicate the image, and the glowing lights rearrange in the air trying to follow ther hand movement. "It will lead the way back to light, according to the Tree."

The dancer anxiously watches as Aravel moves to pick up the sceptre, but doing this gives her another thought and Melianne curses under her breath. "Astrid, Hjalmar! We should check on them." She hastily walks over to the two unconscious archaeologists, dropping to her knees next to them and examining their state. "Korsak, do you need any help as well?"

But it also spoke of a High Mage, similarly entombed down here - it would fit for that to be the greater magical threat that I believe we now face."
Aug 22, 2022 10:03 pm
"How wonderful!" Aravel exclaimed unironically.
"Such an individual may have a wealth of knowledge on the ancient elven civilization I seek."
Aug 23, 2022 1:48 am
"Yes, undoubtedly. And while you're chatting about history, perhaps you could also ask them nicely to stop enslaving the local populace? I'm sure they won't mind."
Aug 23, 2022 11:17 am
"Hmmmm?" Aravel looked up, distracted from his musings on the line of questioning he would employ.
"Well I'm sure we can come to some form of arrangement."

I only ever heard one voice... he says slowly in response to Melianne's question...but yes I think it was her. On a positive note I think her influence on the camp is broken. At least for now. This transport wasn't a carefully calculated plan but a panic reaction.
He stretches a bit and produces a crystal from behind the belt that holds together his robe. He mutters Luminos and the crystal lights up.
I'm fine I think. How are Astrid and Hjalmar?

Melianne checks both of them. While she is very concerned about them and very keen to help she is no doctor. She can only see that both are breathing and don't seem to be wounded. She rubs their temples with sage from her pouch and holds it under their noses but they don't wake up
She lays both down in a way that is as comfortably as possible on a stone floor. That's all she can do for the moment. Hopefully they'll be fine.

While Melianne treats the two archeologists Korsak talks to the others
I think we need to explore this buidling. If we wait here we will be doomed either by starvation or by the being that brought us here. If the being is a competent mage practitioner she may have some of her tools lying around here. Maybe even something that gets us out here again.

He watches as Melianne moves the archeologists into a more comfortable position.
Don't worry if they don't wake up yet. I will watch over them until they do. he calmly states

While you decide on what to do you hear a rattling sound echoing through the corridor in front of the cell. It starts faintly but seems to grow louder
Aug 30, 2022 10:29 pm
Krenmuth whispers, "Does anyone have a mirror to look around the corner?"
Aug 31, 2022 5:06 pm
"Alright..." Melianne sighs quietly in response to Korsak, but seems hesitant to pull away from the unconscious archeologists as long as no one else makes a move to leave the cells. It's only when Krenmuth speaks up that the dancer finally leaves their side, after carefully brushing away Hjalmar's hair from his face and whispering something which is probably a wish for protection and good luck.

"I have one," once standing, she reaches into her satchel and produces an ornate steel mirror which she then hands over to the Wavewarden. "Do you want me to keep the lights? I can also try to detect magic, although I'm not sure if it would be useful with so many sources of it around."

"Thank you. Save the Detect Magic spell. I need the lights placed at ceiling level and in the other corridor." Krenmuth holds the mirror with his left hand and angles it around the corner. He holds his war hammer in his right hand in case a foe needs bludgeoning.
Sep 2, 2022 10:05 am
Krenmuth peeks around the corner with the mirror.

To the left and right side of the corridor are more cells. At the far end is a double door. One wing is missing and the other is being opened by.... skeletons! With slow scuffling steps they advance towards your cell.
Krenmuth isn't sure how many there are exactly but there are at least six of them. They wear rusted chainmail and are armed with spears and swords.
It won't be long until they reach your cell...

Sep 9, 2022 5:50 pm
"Skeletons. I see at least six. I’ll hit hit the first one that rounds the corner." Krenmuth readies his war hammer.
Sep 10, 2022 1:22 pm

Melianne follows Krenmuth's example and quickly draws her rapier, striking at the first undead in her line of sight. Krenmuth runs his warhammer into the chest of the first skeleton he sees. He can hear a crunching sound underneath the rusted chainmail it's wearing and some ribs fall down on the ground.
Melianne meanwhile stabs her rapier at the second skeleton in front of the door. She hits the jaw bone and sends it flying to the opposite side of the corridor.

The skeletons in turn try to charge into the room but are held back by the cleric and the bard. The first two stab at Melianne and Krenmuth while the three skeleton behind them draw small crossbows and shower the group with bolts...

Krenmuth is hit hard by the sword of his opponent. Two bolts hit too with one of them hitting Aravel and the other one grazing Annika

With the fight beginning you hear the clanking and rattling sounds of the skeletons but somehow you think you hear a very loud but regular clanking sound from further down the corridor

"Understood!" The dancer moves away to let Annika pass, taking a position behind the warlock woman.

She then reaches for her war horn and simultaneously points her hand towards the skeletons. The dancing lights above flicker, turning into clouds of sparkling magic, before disintegrating completely and leaving the room illuminated only by Korsak's crystal. Instead, the strings of magic wrap themselves around Melianne's extended arm as she declares: "You will not win this fight! Return to whence you came!" And the aura of colorful, rainbow light surrounds the undead.

As Melianne withdraws from the frontline a skeleton stabs at her with its sword, scratching her back a bit.
Her spell then illuminates three of the skeletons, shedding dim, colourful light at the surroundings.

Annika meanwhile tries to stab the skeleton that attacked Melianne but misses. It mockingly rattles with its jaw but the bolt that Annika shoots immediately after her first attack shatters the skull of the skeleton.

Krenmuth's attack misses entirely, as well as Aravel's arrow.

The skeletons retaliate:
Annika has no problem to dodge the sword attacks aimed at her but a crossbow bolt from the back row hits her shoulder.
Krenmuth is stabbed by one of the skeletons. He bows down a bit due to the pain, which luckily puts him out of harms way by a bolt shot at him.
Aravel meanwhile is hit by another crossbow bolt.

Meanwhile the clanking sound you heard earlier is growing louder. You even think you can feel the ground shake a bit

Annika pierces the spine of the opponent in front of her, which leads to the collapse of the skeleton.
The moment Krenmuth was hit a thunderous wave erupts from him and shatters the skeleton in front of him.
The skeleton behind it draws its sword and takes its place. Krenmuth tries to hit it but fails.
Aravel tries to retaliate but his arrow just hits the wall on the opposite side.
Melianne calls out to Aravel. Hold out, your wounds will get better
Tharadin meanwhile throws a javelin at one of the skeletons and hits it
One skeleton stabs at Krenmuth and the other two fire at Krenmuth and Aravel.

While Krenmuth can deflect the sword blow he is hit by the bolt.
Aravel's wounds close but are promptly reopened by the other crossbow bolt.

Suddenly you discover the source of the sound you heard earlier. A giant skeleton emerges in front of the cell, pushes the other skeletons to the side and looks down at you with a giant axe in its boney hands
