Edith reaches to the table beside and finds a solid granite ball, flat on one edge, a decorative paperweight with the words "Welcome to Providence!" stamped on it.

Waiting on John..

OOC:
Edith, go ahead and make your move, John seems to be dazed.
Aug 15, 2022 2:31 pm
Edith hears screaming and it takes a few moments to realize that the screaming is coming from her. She can't get past this thing that's standing in the middle of the room. It no longer looks like the James she adored, but ugly and evil. She was so repelled that she turned to run before remembering Tommy. If it got past her who would protect Tommy?

She wills herself to stay in place and look around. Finding a solid granite ball, flat on one edge, a decorative paperweight with the words "Welcome to Providence!" stamped on it, she grabs it and throws it.

Rolls

Throw - (1d100)

(12) = 12

OOC:
Question, are you randomly throwing or aiming at a particular part of the body? You can target with a penalty die (rolling another d10 for the ‘tens’ and taking the worst result)

Note damage is 1d4 + half/Damage bonus (1d4 / 2)
Aug 17, 2022 3:15 pm
OOC:
She's not aiming at any particular part of the body, but just aiming to hit the thing.
Aug 17, 2022 5:14 pm
OOC:
OK, without aiming, that's a hit to the right arm. Can I have a damage roll (2d4 (second roll will be halved)

Humphrey is an educated fellow and what he is seeing doesn’t make sense. Dead and mutilated corpses cannot move. This is a fact. He must be hallucinating or something.

Desperate to clear his vision he takes off his glasses and begins rubbing his eyes vigorously. Maybe, a little to vigorously because when he opens his eyes again he can only see red. "My eyes!"he screams adding his voice to the sounds of terror around him. "I can’t see!"

He stumbles around with his arms outstretched looking for something to grab hold of to orient himself.
OOC:
I’m not sure what Humphrey can do at this point. I suppose he’s groping around for something like and umbrella or cane to swing around and try to defend himself, if that’s even possible. I’ll do a luck roll to move things along but feel free to ignore it.

Rolls

Luck - (1d100)

(95) = 95

As Edith's paperweight hits the thing in the arm and there is suddenly a flash of pale blue light, the spiral scars that cross what were once the arms, legs and torso of Gardiner begin to glow and the stone falls harmlessly to the ground.

Humphrey reaches around blindly but finds nothing to grab.
OOC:
William, you're up !
Aug 19, 2022 2:49 am
As quick as he's able, William grabs the tarp underneath their former friend, and tugs as hard as he's able. "Hopefully, he loses his balance and we can get him back down," he says to the others. "I don't care what the pulps say, nothing should come back from beyond!"
OOC:
Not sure what to roll for this. Is this just physical strength, or would this tie into a specific skill?

Strength sounds good, though John is on the tarp as well. I'm going to roll the punch he requested in his absence.

John Brawl - (1d100)

(47) = 47

OOC:
As John is build 1 and Gardiner is build 0, the Gardiner-Thing has a penalty die to react. It attempts to dodge.

It fails, so John's punch connects with the face.

Rolls

dodge - (1d100)

(61) = 61

penalty - (1d10)

(3) = 3

damage - (1d4, 1d4)

1d4 : (4) = 4

1d4 : (2) = 2

Aug 19, 2022 10:27 am
As you already identified, there are no spiral scars on the thing's head and face and John's punch seems to have an effect as his fist connects with its nose with a satisfying crunch. It stumbles back momentarily.

Strength - (1d100)

(9) = 9

Seeing what William is doing, John steps off the tarp. Grabbing the edge in two tight fists, he yanks as hard as he can and the gardiner-thing is swept off its feet to thud down on its back. It is momentarily motionless..

Then its head tilts back and the throat wound opens and the thick blood parts. From within, a terrible whistle pipes a dreadful tune.
OOC:
Everyone make a POW roll please.
