Q puts his hand up in the air to attract the Captain's attention. "No need for that Captain. It's possible to travel through the Astral Sea using only one's thought. I believe, I can travel 200 feet per minute. Provided the log book is not too far away, I would have plenty of air surrounding me to retireive the log book. Perhaps, the crew could use their weapons and those of the ship to pick off any debris that might be headed my way."

"Interesting suggestion, Q. Any other suggestions from you all?"

Johnny’s snot comes up in a wide grin as Frug mentions throwing someone through space, but changes suddenly as a thought crossing the plains of his mind. "Capt’n, what be the distance our gravity extends from our hull? Could it be we try an’ grab the logbook in our gravity, then one of us could stroll out to grab the treasure."

OOC:
You are in wildspace. Not the astral sea right now. Wildspace has solar systems, what is in between all the solar systems/realms is the Astral sea.

OOC:
There is nothing really solid to walk on. You would bounce up and down around the gravity plane. So retrieving the logbook is the challenge.

"I might have a simple spell for it, captain," Acaelia suggests. "If we can get close enough at about 30ft, I can call forth a magical hand which could retrieve the logbook. No one needs to do any dangerous tricks at all."

"I think I might be able to shapeshift into one of those electrical eels we saw. They live out here, and don't need air or gravity. I could probably go in, grab it and come back out, between all the debris."

Torch thinks a bit.

"Acaelia's plan sounds great, but can we get that close with all this rubble?"

Frug thinks on the matter, and says, "Well, I think that Acaelia's plan has the most merit. Torch, yours is second, and mine is third, just based on what I understand of our surroundings now.

"I am going to devise a pros and cons list, and then we will vote among those three options:"

Which plan do we choose? Public

Johnny shuffles his feet a little sad his idea wasn’t considered, ‘Not one for thinking, one for doing.’ he reminds himself.

After 3 of the 5 of the senior officer select Acaelia's plan, Frug says, "Thanks for your input, everyone! Looks like we will be going with Acaelia's plan."

Frug notices Johnny's sadness, and he puts his hand on the minotaur's knee and says, "It might have been a good plan, but there are a lot more logistics to consider in your scenario. Mage Hand might be a more direct means of acquiring what we came to get."
OOC:
He put it on the back of his knee, since Frug is so small, especially compared to this minotaur. It would have been a hand on the shipmate's shoulder if he could reach.

"Aye, Captain" Torch makes ready to help navigate the debris field.

Johnny brightens up at Frug’s gesture, "Onboard Capt’n, let’s be doing this Buckos."

You position the ship right next to the debris field and Acaelia's mage hand retrieves the logbook with ease. Johnny whos depressed mood has his back to the mage hand, sees another ship appears. Its sleek frame is painted in a wild shade of pink and is designed to resemble an immense squid. Starlight reflects off the ship’s hull—illuminating two turret-mounted ballistas rotating slowly to face your ship.

OOC:

The adventure want me to skip directly to when they bord your ship, and they will do that when they are within 5 feet of you. But if you come up with a clever idear then I'm all for it :D
Hf = Hammerhead front
Hm = Hammerhead mid
Hr = Hammerhead rear
Sf = Squid Ship front
Sr = Squid Ship mid
Sr = Squid Ship rear
Grey circle = The degreisfield from the salvaged ship.

Captain, what are your orders?
OOC:
You have the initiative
Sep 9, 2022 11:07 am
It only takes a few seconds for Johnny to recognise an approaching ship, "Me Buckos, looks like we have a little company." Raising a ham like hand he points the squid ship out. A split second later he is making his way towards one of their ships forward weapons.
OOC:
So by the maps side on we can bring three weapons on target, but we are a bigger target. We could fake being trapped, then attempt to swing around them as they prepare to board.

Torch is cheering Acaelia on, using the druidcraft cantrip to make little firefly sparkles, when she hears Johnny's tone. She turns to look, the sparkles fade. "Company, eh? You think they like fireworks?" Torch's palms heat.

OOC:
remember that you have 10 illusion sailors that can use their actions to operate the ship's weapons. Like if 3 crew mans the ballista it can fire each round
Sep 9, 2022 6:47 pm
Frug's head snaps towards the side of the ship where those creatures come from.

He says, "Acaelia, hold onto that book! Quick, spellcasters, what spells have you prepared?

"Torch, you take 4 sailors with you to the mangonel on the bow, aim and fire at them as many times as you can!

"Johnny, you take two sailors with you and man the ballista. I want you to have the ballista pointing to the starboard side, and once we strafe the enemy ship, I want you to fire that ballista right at their hull. Have the crewman with you turn and load the ballista, and Johnny, I want you firing repeatedly towards them.

"Acaelia, you take 4 sailors with you to the mangonel on the stern, aim and fire at them as many times as you can once we finish our strafing run!

"Q, I want you to be on a collision-course with that enemy ship. At the last possible moment, I want you to divert away, and then take the most direct path from that point back to our final destination.

"Everyone has their orders!"

With that, he climbs to the highest vantage point and watches and thinks.

"Be ready for a change in orders at any possible moment! This is what we came here for, folks!"
Sep 9, 2022 7:13 pm
"Aye aye, Captain!" Acaelia salutes formally. Quite a pleasant surprise that Frug takes the lead and doesn't leave the stressful situation to democracy. "Light, Fire Bolt, Mage Hand and my own customized Mage Armor always at the ready sir. As are Absorb Elements, Burning Hands, Magic Missile, Protection from Evil & Good and Shield!"

Remembering her first training on the Academy, and the horrible things that the space pirates could do to her - cannibalism was among them, she shudders - she instantly casts her Mage Armor, which sheds a teal colored armor of light around her. Even sturdier than before.

"Alright! Sailors you, you, you and you! You've heard the captain! To the stern. Get that mangonel loaded!" delegating the physical work was something she was used to.
OOC:
Casts mage armor (which activates Arcane Ward) and heads to the stern of the ship

"As everyone goes to battle stations, what do any of you know about squid ships?"
Sep 9, 2022 10:59 pm
Already halfway across the deck as Frug calls out his orders, a smile upon his lips both from confidence in his new Captain and finally getting to engage some foe. His hands quickly checking arms before snatching up a sailor seated on the deck, "You heard the Capt’n all hands on deck." He spots a board chested sailor and points to him, "I like the cut of your jib Raider, with me."

Dumping the sailor unceremoniously Johnny organises his team, "Raider your loading, Sharpe Eyes you aim. To it."
