At ease σ cadets: OOC and character generation
Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.
Other dice code is when making an attack roll, by adding AC14 to the description it will show a green check box when the AC meet.
Likewise with spell DC and if/when you cast a spell or other effects that are going have the enemy make a save, roll an unmodded DC roll. If it is a clear success, then you have the narrative, likewise if it is a clear failure. If it is within -1/+3 then I have the narrative as I know the mods
Rolls
Spell save CON (unmodded) DC12 - (1d20)
(6) = 6
I already have a good grasp of the character I would like to play. So let's start building her.
Edit:
Guess I rolled exactly pointbuy.
I could use pointbuy as a backup right, should/if I want to tweak a bit (not sure yet if I do)?

I’ll build my character tonight or tomorrow.

I was going with a Bard type.
I think he underestimated how high these seas go, but he will have fun regardless!
Ranged though and eventuallly going AT
Based on this and the recruitment thread
Player | Class | Sub class | Race | Archetype |
Calexico_Night | Druid | Circle of Wildfire | Variant Human | Druid Magic |
HeroAmongMen | Rogue | Swashbuckler | Svirfneblin | Melee DPS |
Verrain | Ranger | ? | Aarakocra | Archer |
Mathfuric | Bard | ? | Tabaxi | Arcane Magic? (I am not a bard expert) |
Cettish | Rogue | Arcane Trickster | Half-Elf or Human | Archer |
Looking at this table, I could also switch class. I don't really mind doubles, but I think it is more fun to avoid them.
That would prevent Hero and me having the same class.
And it would also prevent Verrain and me having an archer build.
Fixes two "double positions".
I assume this is ok with @runekyndig ? (not sure if you picked characters or players when selecting for this game).
Based on group balance I would be going for a tank-type then and still keep quite a bit of the character's base idea
(Abjuration Wizard also comes to mind, not sure how that relates to the bard class though).
This is a published adventure, make the characters you want. Me asking for concepts was just as much a prescreening of the potential players. Do the get the premiss of the game, or are there incomming space monkies?
At this point I am leaning towards the wizard as well, but lets compare notes @HeroAmongMen
Then hopefully we can have things set up soon :)
This was my original character idea.
She is an rogue with a short bow and will go Arcane Trickster.
She really isn't a good student, but her rich noble family send her to Spelljammer Academy in the hope she would learn some discipline.
Or rather, that is her story...
Pro's: original idea, art fits the setting best, rogues are cool
Con's: party balance, it certainly is not my firt rogue

A daughter of one of the noble families of Waterdeep. The only child to inherit her father's estate and titles.
She was being educated for it, prepared, set up.
Until thugs killed her mother. And her father remarried.
And a son was born... a son who would have priority to the estate and the title, for that is how it works in this family.
She suddenly had no future left, except the future of being a pawn in a political marriage.
She left and joined the Spelljammer Academy. Determined, with the aid of her magic, to never let anything be taken away from her again...
Pro's: everyone will have a unique character, the idea is very much growing on me
Con's: party balance? tankiness?

A paladin to Selune from Cormyr.
She applied to join the ranks of the Purple Dragons knights, but failed.
Seeking to use her talents elsewhere, she joined spelljammer academy, quite uncertain about her skills and trusting on her godess.
Pro's: very reliable as a tank, party balance, everyone will have a unique character
Con's: needs more work on the personality department

She seeks further dark secrets by conversing with ancient beings in the cosmos, but she will learn to rely on her crew, even if she sees them as inferior beings.

You are native to the forgotten realms, and in one way or another you have signed up for the Spelljammer academy, with the very real possibility that you will go out to the starts and not come back.
If this is not what you thought, then accept my apology, and if it is definitely not what you signed up for, then I'll pick one from the waiting list to take your spot.
Acaelia of house Talmost of Waterdeep

(I intend to cycle through multiple sets of pronouns in descriptive storytelling text.)

Acaelia of house Talmost of Waterdeep

Say Hi to Johnny Kidd.
A duelling Warforged Pirate who can not recall any memory before 10 years ago, when he was rebooted by a famous Gnome Pirate/Inventor Henry Avery.
He has sailed the seas for 9 years defending his ‘Captain’, where he garnished the nickname ‘The Kid’ for his simple view of the world.
About a year ago the crew turned on Henry when Johnny was ashore collecting a new longsword, upon his return he found a few assassins in waiting. Battered from the attack Johnny retreated and has been on the run since attempting to find the killers of Henry. After a year of running he final found a possible clue that the crew maybe pirating in Wildspace and the Astral Sea.
And you are cadets at an academy, not pirates
I think it's the baddies go now?
I think it's the baddies go now?
Maybe I should watch it again, and Farscape as well.
In the other game, a goblin deliberately used a long bow, too big for her and Boatswain Tarto ordered her to get a short bow instead. There this part of the adventure made perfect sense so I am keeping it :)
On top of that, I can see that he has been logged in within the last day.
I have a waiting list of other interested players and I have just contacted the first on that list.
Character creation is 4d6 drop low, with pointbuy as backup
Rases are native to the forgotten realms setting
level 1
Standart equipment +50gp (that 50 gp must be spent or forfeit.) Starting equipment can be sold at ½ listed prise
You will be another cadet that Boatswain Tarto has an assignment for. Your cadet has completed the orientation tasks as the rest of the group is just finishing.
Thanks for the invite, DM, I'll start rolling up my character

Quintis Fabia "Q" is from an Imaskari artificer family that made its way to Lantan after the collapse of High Imaskar more than a dozen years ago. During the sojourn from the east shores of the Sea of the Fallen Stars, Q met and befriended a renegade Githyanki pirate called Dyl'a'th who told him about the Spelljammer Academy upon which Q has now set his heart

Did you like the story?
Is there anything I as a GM can do to improve?
We can end this adventure here if you like or we can continue to chapter 2. (There are a total of 4 chapters)
If you are unhappy with your character, now is the time to introduce another cadet.
If there are a few players from this or the other game that decide not to continue, I will merge the two games into one. They have just ended the encounter with the Neogi Hatchlings.
When we start chapter 2, your character will be level 2. Your character sheet will be filled out (yours are, but in the other game I have a player who is slacking)
Questions? Comments?
I love your DM style, and I’m really enjoying my character so far.
I plan to continue, assuming you will have me.
I'd like to carry on :-)
It's one of the better one I am in, at GP. I'd love to continue.
And I realized a mistake I made in the bug fight...
@runekyndig :
I had completely forgotten that I have Shield as a spell and had it memorized.
But these events could have gone differently if I had remebered, although probably a bit more complex.
(If I had shielded it the first attack would be, the second would probably not be ignored and take me down to 1 HP, but still standing).
Not sure how you want to deal with these things in the future. Do note that I also have Absorb Elements and now I picked Feather Fall, but don't have FF memorized atm. If it is too much of a hassle I am also fine replacing the reactions with more PBP friendly spells.
Reactions are always tricky in PBP
But don't expect me to keep track of your abilities, spells and hitpoints.
I forgot. Stupid. Lessons learned. That what level 1 is for :)
HP roll . . .

Would you like to try out the new background idea? DND one has a slightly different take of the character creation, where the stat increase comes from the backgrounds and where the background gives a 1st-level feet
If we all agree to try this out, you will lose your background feature, but get a 1st-level feet instead. If your rase is on the list, then you loose your current racial features, but gain the new ones instead.
We will also use the new inspiration rules.
This decision must be unanimous. If we don't all agree, then we won't make this conversion at all.
Should we try the playtest?
Like to DND one playtest
No clue what this is. But I am all for testing things
They will also give out more inspiration as humans start with inspiration at the end of a long rest
I have skimmed through the document you have linked to. It would be fun to try out.
don't feel pressured into something you are uncomfortable with. In the other spelljammer academy group, someone voted no to the new stuff and that was it. There is time enough to play around the play-test-rules.
I am now human variant which is 2x a +1 and a feat.
New human is a level 1 feat.
Now my chosen feat is no longer valid as a level 1 feat, but I have seen a close replacement for it (and now I consider it, I wonder why I didn't pick it sooner), so that is OK.
Also, based on the background I guess that is +1 to a stat compared to var. human and an extra level 1 feat.
Not entirely sure if I like the stat distribution on the example noble though. I am not even sure where I put the spare +1 besides INT.
Can you take a look, @runekyndig?

I can see someone has voted to stick to what we know. So we stick to the normal rules. In retrospect, I think it would be best to play around with the playtest with brand new characters as there are some understandable confusions
I am cutting down on games I play in, but I really love this one, so I'd love to stay in this game.
So if you play with me in another game which I dropped from, please know that I did so because I can keep my focus on this game then.
Making only 3-4 posts a day is easier than keeping up with 10 games. I hope you understand.

Also, really loving all the Trek references. Haha.
Just as a heads up I will be away for a week on holiday from 10th to 18th October, will be a bit distracted to be posting during this period :)
I really struggled in deciding whether to take the roguish archetype of Mastermind or Swashbuckler.
After some consideration, Frug decided to lead from the front, so he is officially a swashbuckler.
I took average HP, also.
It would give a new dynamic to the game as we now would be more people, there would also be some Class ε vs Class σ tention that could be interesting. But I will not force it on you guys into something you didn't sign up for, hence the poll
Merging the two games
I would make a brand new game and invite you all to it if we go ahead with the merger
Yet on the other hand the cross team rivalry and competition would add some real fun to the experience.

Lvl3 HP - (1d10)
