Yeah that's fair. The layout is the weakest part of the book. The actual rules start on pg. 120. The only goal is to kill the bbeg before you die or become corrupted. Anubis wants to kill you all, and you want to kill him first. The rounds go as follows:
1. Declare type of action (Legendary, Mythic or Titanic). The type of action determines the results of your dice.
2. Build your dice pool. Dice come from your storm rating and lightning dice pool, charging or draining weapons and/or blights, or from your Gifts.
3. Roll all your dice. The results depend on the type of action chosen in step 1.
4. Push forward. This is the dealing damage and spending tokens phase. Spend Lightning tokens to deal damage or create blights. Rarely you will spend Might tokens on Gifts that help you deal damage or create blights.
Its very abstract, but try to think of the mechanics these ways. Storm dice represent your round-to-round strength for a single turn. Lightning tokens represent your overall success: the more you have, the better you are doing. Always use actions that grant you dice before you roll, and use abilities for spending tokens after you roll.
If there's anything else I can try to explain better let me know!
