"Me!?" Theo squeaks, his voice breaking from nerves and making him blush.
"Oh, er. Yeah." He declares trying to sound confident as he remembers who he is and what his father would say in such a situation.
There is a bit of jostling for position as Daryl --looking exhausted-- drops back in relief, only to have Theo look confusedly at the cut wheat behind and the standing wheat in front. Theo's hunting knife will not do much good clearing the way. His farmer-bodyguards shake their heads in silent scorn at all this cutting. They have just been pushing through the standing stalks and letting their ward walk the cut path.
You can continue the tiring work of cutting the path, or spread the lesser effort and have everyone just push through, or maybe you can go back to cutting right at the end to make more noise and create a more impressive entrance for the village's mayor's son. However you do it, it is easy enough to make enough noise to make it clear you are not sneaking up on anyone. Given that
they are apparently trying to go unnoticed by the baron, too much noise from you could spoil their plan, or make them angry that you risked doing so.
