OOC Thread for Beta

Oct 14, 2022 5:38 pm
Hey all, I’m putting this here as a means for the adventuring group Beta to have OOC chats amongst themselves.

I’ve set permissions to this sub-forum so that those in the other group can read about your adventures and can look at your posts, but they cannot post in this sub-forum.

Please test out your permissions at your convenience.

I’ve done the same for the Alpha group, too.

Adventuring Group Beta (you are all welcome to rename your group as you see fit) consists of the following adventurers:
- Seyala (eladrin elf [is this eladrin from nightmares or dreams?] fighter), run by @tibbius
- Breathe (acidic half-ooze [not sure who their dam was] druid), run by @Khulod
- Oie-ao (starling druid), run by @Ranimara
- Yi'gga (variant human undead patron warlock), run by @ZeroCool

We are still awaiting a character concept from @HeavyDuty03

Looks good. I checked my Alpha clearances and I can read but not post.

Awesome! Thanks for confirming that!

The permissions look good to me too!

Seyala knows Oie-ao as someone who doesn't bow to the nonsense of little gods, no mightier than the heads of the eladrin seasonal courts. Seyala wouldn't submit to the Winter Queen's will, he has great respect for a mortal who finds power without taking on the burden of placating a local spirit. He wonders what Oie-ao would answer, if Seyala asked "Do you think these little gods are outcast eladrin who've found power like you have?" Maybe, a little, Seyala would like to learn of Oie-ao's source of power, and gain some for himself. @Ranimara

@tibbius Oie-ao knows very little of the world, and would certainly wish to hear stories of Seyala and the Eladrin seasonal courts. For him, he had unknowingly drawn upon the primal magics of Planesgea when he had first fallen from the sky, so it wasn't so much out of rebellion for him, but instead to feel those cosmic energies upon him again. The primal magic of Planesgea itself was the closest he's been able to get so far. But it made him realize that their supposed power comes from the land itself, which anyone can draw from, if they only learn how to hear it. So yeah, he doesn't really believe in the idea of these deities meant to be worshipped.

He carries with him an uncertainty about the world still, but a curiosity to learn more. It feels alien and strange to him still land he longs for home more than anything. But to those who don't know any better, he can come across as mysterious and and god-like thanks to his unnatural beauty and the glow he casts out.

Oie-ao would love to try and teach Tibbius to listen to the land and especially to the stars, just so he can share that beauty he feels is lacking down here. Though he struggles with that still (I'd like for him to thematically start rebuilding that connection to home at level 2, when he gets his Circle of Stars subclass).

And @HeroAmongMen you had mentioned you had some thoughts on connecting Oie-ao's backstory to this adventure? And would this tribe of Dwarves perhaps be appropriate for being the local tribe I had worshipping him in his backstory? Or would there be another group in the area that might work for that? I still want him to be fairly new with wandering out into the world, so he probably hasn't traveled huge distances from that cave he took shelter in/was worshipped in.

This is the tribe that started to worship him as a god.

They used to worship that shadow god from the cave you sheltered in (you had unwittingly settled inside its hallow, and your brightness dispelled the darkness that was its strength, so that being is resentful to Oie-ao).

Sounds perfect, I can definitely work with that. And yeah, I like the idea of Oie-ao sharing that ignorance on the nature of deities and the like. To him, it was just an unpleasant neighbor.

To set up ties...I had an idea for Breathe. Yi'gga was a captive, a slave of some unnamed clan. Perhaps before Breathe became who/what they are today, their dam spent some time with that clan. And perhaps the dam actually treated her with some kindness, so when they meet again, after Breathe awoke, she wants to return the kindness, but since it was such a small memory, Yi'gga is little more than one of those shadow memories that Breathe gets once in a while.

Based on @tibbius post, Seyala wouldn't approve of Yi'gga and the path she's on, but in this case it wasn't 100% her choice. Perhaps they will find common ground after spending some time together.

Sorry, I'm a little confused. Are we jumping right into the first scene already? I had thought we were just working out pre-existing character connections and plot hooks and such for those who needed them. I don't think Oie-ao would have met anybody else yet prior to getting this task due to his isolated living situation near the Dwarven clan. Is there any context on where this scene is taking place?

I was assuming that Seyala / Oie-ao had the character connection discussed above, and that both were for whatever reason at the wyldling clanfire listening to the chief complain of the missing children.

However, equally, Seyala could go with the chief to Oie-ao's cave to plead with the druid/deity for help.

Oh, sorry for misunderstanding! I took that as more of a discussion on their dynamic for after they've met. But yeah, I was imagining Oie-ao might have been beseeched for aid by the Dwarves since they're kind of worshipping him already.

So, I lagged a bit on Breathe's background and Dam identity because I wanted to give anyone a change to know its Dam but you are the first one to bite. Anyhow I welcome the idea. Breathe's Dam was one of the clan's gatherers. A young male human named Kragg who spent a lot of time away foraging alone. This was to hide his druidic powers (that you don't know about yet, but Breathe inherited). Kragg died when the ooze sire suffocated him by dropping on his head. Hence Breathe was made.

Breathe is the ooze inside the Dam and has shattered memories of its host and some of its abilities (there's no way of knowing how powerful a druid Kragg was and what god-destroying feats he has under his modest hide belt, but our beloved DM may exploit this gap in memory to his heart's desire.) As Breathe only gained sentience a few weeks before the start of the adventure it is still coming to grasps with its new existence. The whole world is an unknown to it, including other sentient beings and their customs. So Yi'gga acting as its caretaker is beneficial. One things is abundantly clear though; Breathe is always hungry.

@Ranimara oh heck yes this will be fun.

I can't wait to see how they all interact. :)

Sorry for the long wait everyone! Davros the Hunter should (hopefully) be accepted soon after some adjustments to the weapons and such. Looking forward to posting soon!

Regarding the request for "survival roles" Yi'gga is not speckled for the wilds. She's a face if anything. She's willing to help, but my Wis mod is 0. I have Stealth and social skills.

To answer the DM's question, it sounds like Davros has stepped up for the Leader role in the expedition. Oie-ao is on the lookout for dangers (and he'll help with foraging when they stop to rest), Seyala and Breathe are foraging as they travel, and Yi'gga is along for the ride until situations for her particular social skills pop up.

That's what I interpreted from the replies so far, at least. Does that sound right?

I concur.
