Koram raises his hand and launches a full trio of magical missiles at the Kelpie while Haitith attacks again.
OOC:
Actions 1-3: Act Together (Koram casts Magic Missile w/ 3 actions) + (Haitith strikes)

Rolls

Magic Missile x3 - (3d4+3)

1d20+8 : (10) + 8 = 18

Feb 17, 2023 12:13 pm
Just as Igbork's is about to let loose with another couple of arrows he slips on a rock and the aim goes wide.

And once again the kelpie stands up to Haitith's strikes. Though it can do nothing against Koram's magical missiles which hit it with force. It screams out in anger, evidently never encountered such resistance before.
OOC:
Grom is up.
Feb 17, 2023 6:18 pm
OOC:
@Furmyr Grom had a critical hit on the Kelpie, (unless I missed something). I'll add the extra damage and then post my turn

Rolls

Critical damage - (1d6+3)

(1) + 3 = 4

Feb 17, 2023 6:23 pm
As his Javelin finds it's mark with a satisfying thud, the druid dances excitedly in the water. "yay, yay, foul thing"

Grom pulls another Javelin from his back and hurls it towards the Kelpie.
OOC:
Oh my word! Another Crit!

Once more, Grom jigs in the shallow water, as he pulls off the third of his four Javelins from his back, "Sister Cinder blesses me, Grandfather Eiwa watches over me"

Rolls

Thrown Javelin - (1d20+1)

(9) + 1 = 10

Damage (if relevant) - (1d6+3)

OOC:
I'm going to spend my hero point to re-roll that attack! NB: I've applied the -5 penalty
A little deflated that the last Javelin missed its mark, Grom climbs out of the water, to get a better look where it floated off too

Rolls

Thrown Javelin - (1d20-1)

(8) - 1 = 7

With a primal strength Grom throws another javelin at the kelpie and it hits it right in the neck, ending its life.
OOC:
For your last crit I just doubled damage. I think doubling is more effective than rolling twice. Especially at higher levels.

Cool, thanks GM. Pretty please can I keep my Hero Point, then? :-)

Harbinna Farwander
"Wow! That thing was hideous, then beautiful and then hideous again!" Harbinna exclaims and scurries up on shore.

She looks like she shivers as the cold air hits her wet clothes. "We should find a place to set down camp and get a fire running."
OOC:
Sure. You don't need to use hero points to hit a floating corpse.
Feb 19, 2023 6:51 pm
Agreed! But let's first see whether this Kelpie collected the belongings of its previous victims Igbork grunts.
He searches the Kelpie's body as well as the ground where the Kelpie was standing

Rolls

Searching for Treasure (Perception) - (1d20+8)

(3) + 8 = 11

Feb 20, 2023 7:11 am
Koram asks Haitith to help Igbork with the search. "Yes, a fire would be good, but we should get moving early tomorrow. This delay will only serve to let danger draw closer to our Following."

Rolls

Haitith Perceives (seeks) - (1d20+4)

(20) + 4 = 24

Feb 20, 2023 11:07 am
Igbork realizes the biggest problem with searching the kelpie's body is that is has no pockets. Luckily Koram is able to find a lair a little bit down the beach. There you find a runestone, a small vial containing some strange clear fluid, an alabaster pendant that gives off magical aura and a lump of amber worth 5 gp.
OOC:

To identify the rune you need to make an Arcana, Nature, Occultism or Religion check with DC 19.
To identify the liquid you need to make an Arcana, Nature, Occultism or Religion check with DC 16.

Koram takes a look over the items brought back by Haitith. He seems to grasp what two of the magical items are, but he's unsure of the third. He shows it to Haitith. "Any idea what this is?" he asks the dragon. Haitith shakes his head fervently and Koram passes it to anyone else that would like to have a look.

"Let me see, Koram, perhaps I can identify the sigil"

Rolls

Nature check - (1d20+5)

(13) + 5 = 18

Feb 22, 2023 10:26 am
You're also able to find a good place for the following to rest for the night. This will be one of the last chances to gather water outside of rain for a while.
OOC:
The liquid turns out to be an Oil of Potency.

The pendant is a Crying Angel Pendant

The rune seems to confuse the both of you for the moment. There are people in the following that could identify it Habrinna, Argakoa the Songsinger or Nakta the Healer.

Rolls

Harbinna, Nature identify - (1d20+5)

(3) + 5 = 8

Feb 26, 2023 12:16 am
Do you think those things belonged to the explorer that possibly perished here? Igbork asks Harbinna.
He also fills his waterskin to the brim and shows the rune to Nakta.

When the group settles down he'll note that he thinks that the following seems to have made good progress and that he thinks that you've let the Burning Mammoths way behind you

Harbinna Farwander
"Probably," Harbinna replies. "This is the place his notes ended. At least no more explorers will fall to it."

Letsua
Letsua agrees with Igbork. "We have made good time, and you have left behind clues to confound them. Beyond the occational scouting party I hope we have left them behind for the time being. We still need to make our way to Red Cat Cave, and you need to set a new course."
OOC:
It wil take several days to go further, so do you want to take the most direct route to the caves or will you go via the forest or veer north first?
Mar 1, 2023 9:06 pm
Igbork studies the map of the region.
I think it would be best for us if we just headed straight to the Red Cat Cave.
Everything else would give our pursuers time to catch up. What do you all think?
Mar 2, 2023 9:57 am
"We have nothing to gain by going off the direct path, at least as far as I can see. Getting the Following to safety is the only priority - I agree with Igbork."
