Rules says:
FAMILY TRADE
Growing up, you were probably exposed to a Family Trade. Perhaps you learned your way around a forge from your father, who was a smith. Maybe your mother was a weaver and taught you how to make and mend clothing. Whatever it was,
you picked up some knowledge of this craft and gain Advantage in situations where you can put it to use. Choose some sort of Family Trade for your character; your Game Master will then decide how it will be applicable during gameplay.

Your Trade is the thing your character grew up being exposed to or participating in. Is can be a profession, life style, or other general situation. While it grants advantage on things related to the trade it has more to do with knowledge, familiarity, and experience than actual skill and ability.
Ex a merchant trade would give advantage to understand how to make a deal that is advantageous but not necessarily give advantage to close the deal. That is Charisma, a trait.
Ex a street urchin trade mean you know how city underlife works and where a good hiding place might be but does not make you good at hiding in the moment or moving quietly. That would be Stealth, a trait.
