Disclaimer: Game plot may not be perfectly aligned with Lancer lore as DM has not yet fully grasped the lore. DM is open for any player suggest aimed to improve the plot

Plot
You live on a recently colonized planet Vigna IV. Planet is rich in minerals and you are participating mech piloting training program with goal to protect colony against pirates. It appears however that pirate attack comes sooner than expected. You are informed that pirate party is heading your way hoping to acquire Everests stationed in the training site.
GMS-SP1 "Everest" is plain and unpretentious mech, still superior to the scrap mechs owned by most of pirates.
You are instructed to blow up the Everests before pirates take control of them, but you make a desperate attempt to repeal the attack.

What to expect
- a few deadly combats
- a bit of narrative role-play
- opportunity to learn and explore game rules

What not to expect

- Ability to solve problems through role-play (though you may be able to soften them)
- Proper lore
- DM who knows game rules well
- Combats balanced perfectly according to the rules

I'm recruiting players new to Lancer RPG to do play-test of the crunchy combat mechanics. This will not be a real RPG game, it is planned more as a "learn how to play before play" type of experience.
It will roughly require 3 months to experience a LL0 combat + two LL1 combats + some short narrative in between. Translated to dnd it would be 1) lvl 1 PC combat 2) lvl 3 PC social interaction 3) two combats with a short rest in between

My expectations
Zero experience: I expect players to have never player Lancer RPG before
No knowledge required: You can download free rule book and you could find Lancer 101, a Lancer Tutorial Series on youtube, but I have zero expectation as of how much you will learn by yourself. I'm ready to explore rules together
Commit to invest your time My only expectation is that players will be posting at least 3 times a week and they will find enough time at the beginning of the game to design their own mechs using a very handy web app https://compcon.app/#/pilot_management

Plot
Not-yet-lancers, still a good pilots find themselves in a desperate situation: they are the only people capable to ride a few scrap mechs available at the outpost attacked by enemy forces. You have just enough time to choose weapons and systems of your choice to be installed on the mechs before engaging into the deadly combat. If you manage to survive and save the outpost, you would earn to be Lancer and ride your own mech - the robot that is best suited your piloting style and strategic approach.

Other
Since this will mostly consist of mech (robot your PC is piloting) combat, I don't believe we could have issues with anything Controversial.

How to Apply: By 1st of November it would be enough to just post here or PM.

P.S. My motivation
Let me quote Andrew Girdwood review
Quote:
I was a hundred or so pages in and beginning to wonder I would need to write-up a cheatsheet of rules to keep abreast of the scope of the game.

After some playtesting, I quickly released that Lancer is a phenomenally easy game to play.
Now that's exactly how I felt. And is what I suggest to you - dear players: don't spend your time compiling the pdf in your head, let me just guide you through a playtest game. And help me to better understand the game mechanics by pitting them in use.

I'll be interested in joining

If this develops to a full game, I'd be interested. I don't want to take a learning seat from someone though.

If this will develop into a full game I would certainly recruit open additional recruitment for experienced players. Though honestly my wish is to prepare ground for a more qualified person to DM a full game.

Smart. Do a bit of prepwork, have a spot guaranteed when one of your players steps up to GMing afterwards!

I would definitely like to observe at least as someone hoping to run a game soonish, to see what seems to work well for combat.

This sounds interesting to me. I'm down for it! First experience outside D&D, but willing to dive into mechanics crunchiness

I'd be interested in giving Lancer's mechanics a shakedown to see how it works out in PbP

Status update: game is up and running with first 4 players, but recruitment is still active two more days.
Note that game will be public, so you will be able to get some insight even without joining the game as a player.
