OOC:

I’d like to look around in the level/story we’re at.

If there are signs that something has come front the outside to here, it must have moved further. There must be tracks we‘re able to follow.

Do you see, Eddisham? Something was here. But where did it go?
Jan 18, 2023 1:59 am
The dust andd mud that covered the floor has been disturbed but little else. Looking around the room you see a likness carved into the ceiling in the center of the rool. The face appears elfin but has a wildness that is enhances by two fangs barely visible and animal like ears poking out of here hair. Around th rooms are several large caskets of odd sizes and shapes. Tho top of each depicst a creature with the sides showing that same creature performing various things with the woman above.
As you circle the single smoth floored roomyou find stairs leading down behind the smallest of the stone caskets. The mud on the stairs is also disturbed with foot ptints. A weak breeze bring the sent of earth and a hit of fire from below.
Jan 18, 2023 4:15 pm
"We are up above the river, here," says Eddisham, "it must have flooded high to leave this mud here on the floor." He looks closely at the footprints. What are they?

The few clear footprints are a mix of humanoid and skeletal.
Eddisham extends his senses and feels a dark corrupting energy that seems to be covering like an oily film over a much fainter and older sense of natural strength, much like you feel in deep forests. The dark everyone are below but the getting of natural vitality is all around you.
Jan 18, 2023 6:25 pm
I watch Eddisham closing his eyes. He takes deep breathes. His eyelids flicker a little. He seems to sense something I‘m not able to feel.

After a few moments he opens his eyes.

"Eddisham, what was that? What did you feel?", I ask.
OOC:

I ask him, as player-knowledge is not character-knowledge. But I assume he‘ll tell to me. No need to repeat, what we as players already know.
"So, here is life and down there is … death?", I ask and point to the stairs.

"Should we really go down there? If yes, then we should be really alert!"
OOC:

I don‘t know if it‘s a good idea, if we two walk down theses stairs without more support

OOC:
I was planning something bigger but since two of the characters are idle I will scale it back. Not saying it will be easy just possible.
You can also just go back and report. This is good new information.

OOC:

I'd go all in, if that's okay. Shmautz must get his honor back - even if that means, that he won't survive this adventure.

tibbius / Eddisham?

OOC:
I think Eddisham is a thrill seeker.
"Yes," says the elf with a laugh, "by all means, let's be cautious."

He gestures with his hand, a glowing orb appears above his head. Its harsh white light diminishes the gloom in this odd room, casts weird shadows from the caskets.

"We should be able to proceed in good light, anyway," he adds.
OOC:
We're not in combat, so he takes a moment to Focus on this spell.

With the witchlight illuminating your way you dessend into to the first floor. The magical light reveals bars at the base of the stairs that have been ripped appart to allow passage up and down. The room beyond is simpe bare stone with a few tablets allong the walls. Sevreal have been smashed, form the inside, revealing them to be burrial niches. The stone from the shattered covers litters the muddy floor of what must have once been an impressive chamber. From the names on the tables there seem to be several families that used this building and you note a few names cross over indicating that there were some intermarrying between them. As you look around the room you see the main door stil intackt but behind the stairs you just came down is another set of stairs that have had the stone covering forcefully removed to grant acess to the deeper level of this mauselium.
OOC:
I willl ontinue down later this weekend unless I hear from you.
Jan 21, 2023 9:47 am
"By G'ar-Field. The undead which are lurking around outside must have escaped from these chambers.
Did the Commander Martinell in the castle ever mention these families?"
OOC:
Is his name written on one of the chambers?
Did any of us have some 'lore' on this?
I wander around in the room and examine the the chambers and their names. My imagination goes wild and I can "see" that very moment, when something made all these break out. The hands and feet thrusting fromt the inside to be free again.
I shiver ...
OOC:
Can I use my enigmatic eye here (minor magic item) to get a glimpse of the past - maybe to see more about "who was here and did this".
"Here, the other stairway. Let's get down there. I can see in the dark - I'd go first, okay?"
Jan 21, 2023 3:18 pm
"Good by me," says Eddisham. He gestures for Shmautz to precede him.

As Shmautz examines the room he recognizes any of the names but takes note of the family names. Shahro, Tromemre, and Gallois. Leaning your forehead against one of the tablets a series of images of a boy advancing through manhood to old age passes through your thought only to be shattered by a dark flash. Smaautz sees a large figure stepping over the ruined bars followed by a cloaked figure with a staff. The robed figure "says" something and the hulking figure continues its destructive descent by ripping the gate to the lower stairs apart. An un known "time" later Smautz "sees" darkness seeping up out of the lower stairwell as coldness seeps into his body and the vision breaks.
Bracing yourselves you gingerly step over the ruins of the gate and head down the stairs. At the bottom is another door. This one is solid metal though the lock holding it in place is twisted allowing you to push it open. As the light spills into the room beyond you see movement to the side as a massive paw slams thought the little light and into Eddisham.
Eddisham blinks his eyes as he comes back from his vision. His hand just about to push the door open and he reaches out stopping his companion. Though the door is still in the doorway its shattered lock has doubtlessly allowed your light into the room alerting its current occupant.
Jan 23, 2023 3:45 pm
Eddisham takes a step back. He gestures to Shmautz to do so also. "Dangerous beast!" he hisses. "Ambush!"
Jan 26, 2023 6:59 am
Feeling like being somewhere far away behind a dark curtain, I hear Eddisham's voice. His words are pulling me back to reality. Leaving the coldness behind, I cut the surface to my consciousness.

I leap back off the door, staring at it.
I shiver, and an angry squeak leaves my throat.

"What was that!?"

I draw my dagger, knowing that it is little help against otherworldly powers. Though I feel a little safer feeling the handle in my paw.

"There's darkness behind it. I mean ... not just the absence of light, but a deep and cold darkness. I saw figures passing this door in a dream ..." ... and I whisper the facts I was able to recall to Eddisham.
OOC:
Sorry for the delay.

Are we really ambushed, or was that a "passive magical alarm system"?

What is the impression we currently have, despite the visions of what might be behind the door?
Jan 26, 2023 1:23 pm
OOC:
Shmautz was walking with Eddisham and about to enter the next room when Ed stopped and grabbed Shmautz to stop him. Ed has a touch of precognition which prevents anything from surprising him so he has a vision. I will mark those better in the future. I just thought it would be interesting for both to get the message so you could react
Eddisham is a bit suprised that Shmautz shared his vision. That hardly ever happens.

The door is currently shut and there are no signs of anything beyond other than the pervasive chill emanating from somewhere beyond the door.
Jan 29, 2023 7:43 pm
OOC:
Thank you for clearifying. I was not sure about the situation.
"Thank you. You just saved me from harm.", I say and slowly squint my eyes.

"And now? I can feel that there is something behind this door. Maybe not directly behind and maybe not awaiting us, but at least well prepared to handle unbidden guests."
OOC:
Have we already examined and searched this place well enough?
We're standing in a stairway in front of a door, right. I assume the stairway is 'just wide enough', but not ending in a hall or bigger room befor the door.
But is there something special (besides its magical alarm-alike mechanism), that we can use?
Doubtful I look around.
Jan 29, 2023 10:00 pm
The simple stone stairway turned, gain back to tht front of the mausoleum then turned again. The simple and sturdy metal bound 4'x8' door is closed but not tightly and not latched so that a simple push can open it. Nothing of note is evident in the stairway of the landing in front of the door. No sound is heard but the disturbed dirt on tht floor indicates recent passage.

Psybermagi says:

OOC:
Can we tell if the direction? In / Out / Undefined?
I look at the ground and then whisper:

"Do you think, we should just wait behind the door wings? Maybe the two I saw in my vision come out again soon. We hide, and when they're away, we slip in.

The dirt is simply disturbed and you are unable to determine which way they passed, in our out.
The narrow landing and stairwell give no place to hide. Hiding would be possible on the first floor with it's decorations.

"I have another idea," Eddisham says quietly. He Focuses for a few moments. If nothing interrupts, he makes a certain gesture with his fingers while he and Shmautz stand on the stairs at a distance from the door.
