Yea, I’m writing up an initial post. The scene from the advert is more like a prologue and the game will start with the orcs finished raiding and bringing the prisoners (incl players) and spoils back to the… well… somewhere

Awesome. Maybe the Orcs are taking everyone to their Fortress and the Orc Chieftain is the one who led the raiding party. Veronica tried running away from them but as there was probably a lot of them, they quickly surrounded her before placing manacles and a neck collar around her in their victorious capture of her so she doesn't know what they plan to do with her yet. She expects the worst though: enslavement, torture and other things.

That’s something similar to what I had in mind. I think I’ll get the first GM post up but will have it locked until people can get more finished with their characters. But it will give y’all something to think about and develop your first goal.

I think Veronica's goal would definitely be to escape unless she is taken as a slave by the Orc Chieftain or something making it harder for her to escape but she'll fight Fang and nail to escape as she has heard from others that females are usually enslaved to the Orcs as pleasure slave pets while others are sold at the slave market to other races like Gnolls and Goblins and Giants and stuff. But her goal is to try and escape by any means necessary.

Ok I posted the opening scene. This is a good time to agree on a goal. Some obvious ones might be to escape, survive the journey… something else.
Additionally, there is no rush to get started as it is New Year’s Eve but we can talk about what we are thinking about for strategy as well.

Veronica's goals are definitely to survive the journey and try to escape after encountering the Chieftain and arriving to their Stronghold/Keep. She'll probably end up trying to steal things from her captors too. Whatever happens after the escape is up to her and the others.
Wonder what happened to those two prisoners at the bonfire though. Hope the Orcs didn't make them fight or eat them or whatever. I hope they at least give the prisoners water to drink even if they don't get food. Veronica doesn't have to breathe but needs to drink and she gets her nourishment from the life energy of others though she can eat regular food.

Btw, what type of Orcs are these, are they the green World of Warcraft type orcs, black orcs or what? Just curious.

Iron would've worked better for her considering she is an Arcane trickster rogue but the Orcs probably weren't thinking about that at the moment.

Laying low to survive the journey is fine by me! Being bound at the moment makes a means of escape quite difficult.

But the orcs followed the beast. By now many more orcs had arrived and were scouring the area. One cast a net that just barely caught the wolf. Dennan went back to cut his friend free. He narrowly managed to do so while fending off oncoming orcs; the beast bolted to safely. But there were just too many orcs for Dennan to face. He was captured, for the first time he was not free, suffering the same fate as his people almost a decade ago.

And the first rolls of the game!! This is a good time to go over rolls and stuff. I may roll for everyone if it will make posting smoother, additionally, in combat I will probably give enemy HP and AC for most encounters so you can narrate your hits and misses as you see fit (or leave it to me and I will narrate of course). Really it helps so you don’t accidentally attack someone that someone else just killed.

Ok, you will be able to cut the bonds pretty easily so no need to roll there. If you are going to your weapons I would want either a stealth roll or an athletics roll depending on if you are trying to slip over there or sprint. Same goes for getting to the tree line.

Yep. Btw, Veronica already grabbed her backpack and weapons but I posted that she grabbed other weapons, magical artifacts and gold and mentioned to Dennan if he finds a bag of holding, they can place all the extra stuff in it.

I thought of who would be the worst to spot you taking some of the loot. We are kinda entering combat here to give a refrence to how much action you can do at a time. if you want to try something creative I don’t tend to be too harsh on rulings if it seems possible.

Btw, I actually have a question DM Baron, Are the Stone Tusk Orcs the ones who captured our party and the other prisoners or is that another Orc tribe? Just curious. I know they are pig faced Orcs, I just didn't know what they were called.

You were captured by thousand axe orcs. Stone tusk orcs are the ones attacking them. I realize it got a little confusing with orcs attacking orcs.

Dropping out of combat. The Stone Tusk orc realized he didn’t want to die and went to rally more orcs from the battleground. Most the fighting g is over now with the Thousand Axe orcs routed and dispersed into the woods. The fleeing orcs avoided the magical fire springing to life and thusly the prisoners.

I don’t see that as a Dhampir ability so assume it’s the stealth ability. If I missed something that makes it literally invisible, let me know.

Those are 8 mile hexes, so if you forced March, you could make it 3 hexes at a normal pace or nearly 4 at a fast pace (penalty to wis checks) for clear hexes. Mountains/forest I would consider difficult terrain (1/2 speed), hills or light woods would be half difficult (3/4 speed). Does that seem fair? The rules only really account for difficult and open so 3/4 speed is made up and wanted to make sure it made sense.

Moved us forward to mid day. Dennan had a great hunt, there’s birds in the forest; as well as orcs. The prisoners are in a much better place with Laylas attending to them.
Depending on what happens I might move forward again in time till the next decision point :). Are we resting for the night here or moving on after lunch?

Depends on what everyone wants to do. Veronica would probably want to rest and move on the next morning since they didn't get to when they got captured by the Orcs. Since there are only the three of them, they could take turns keeping watch too.

Speaking of editing. I accidentally said Veronica and Layla saved Dennan from a Thousand Axe orc. But I think I got confused. It was a Stone Tusk orc. I went back and edited that. Dennan may know these orc pretty well, but I can't keep 'em strait. LOL!

Ok it sounds like we are coming to a plan. I will need what route you are taking, and what everyone is doing on the hike.
Some things could be:

Veronica will definitely keep a silent but vigilant watch and she's good at being sneaky and stealthy being a rogue so she'll definitely be doing that. Don't know what else she would be doing as she doesn't know how to forage or cover tracks. Lol.

So with the distance and it being mid-day, I don’t think you make it to either the road or Verge before nightfall. You can continue through the night, but that would start to drain the prisoners.
As it’s the edge of the mountains, I think the prisoners can make the trek straight to verge with rest. If you go toward the road you will lose the cover of the trees about the time of the travel day ends.

I can think of decent reasons for both paths, and there’s not like a "right answer" im looking for.
For streams, while there aren’t rivers, this is woodland and some that you are familiar with. I think we can make an assumption you know of a few spots to get a drink. It’s a good question though. I will be checking food and water for other journeys.

I have to say, I am really enjoying the pace and party we have. I went with a smaller group to keep the pace up and was a little nervous about three vs two but this game has covered more ground already than many of my previous games. (Some of them went on months longer).
I think part of it is that you all are making decisions pretty quickly about what you want to do/go AND the communication of intent so I can narrate quicker from scene to scene.
I know we keep saying awesome job so maybe I’ll leave it with in having a blast (not something a lot of DMs get to say all the time)

Quick question everyone regarding how the forum works. I quite often make edits right after posting because I misspelled something or wrote something extra unclearly. Do you guys get notified multiple times when I make these minor edits (assuming you have notifications being sent to your emails like I do)? If so I apologize.
All the previous times I've made edits the timestamp appears to be the same even if the edit was a few minutes later. I notice that by default the checkbox that says "this is a minor edit" is checked. I just made a more major edit because I remembered that Dennan wanted to ask Veronica a question about the scene outside, since she spent some time out there alone. In this latest edit (because it was more than minor) I unchecked that box. Did you get notified about that major change at least?

Okay Baron, to move things along OOC, Dennan will relay all that Sebastian told him to Veronica, and Layla for that matter, and tell them of the sealed letter and Sebastian's contacts in Threshold. He'll suggest he and Veronica try to stealthily follow Antonic at night. Maybe they'll spot him being up to no good. He might leave town to meet with orcs or orcs will sneak in to meet him. If it seems like Antonic goes into the manor for shady business perhaps they could sneak in there. I dunno, what do you think Amber?

Ok, so for the house, it’s essentially like a long hall with the back half having a second floor that you can’t see into from the ground. You assume most the guards that are not completely asleep off in some barracks are in the hall (based on previous theifing experience)

I was trying to establish the time back in Verge for Veronica since she was waiting around. So if my math ic correct she’s in the same time as you (~45 minutes since you left town). I said assume because I don’t know that she knows you left, though thinking on it now, if she saw the others leave she would have seen you so that doesn’t make sense.

I tend to agree with Dennan if I’m honest. I think splitting the party has been going on long enough. I’m going to post but the next one I think it best if we link everyone back up. I think we can assume that you have heard or could easily get from the town some rumors of a recluse(s) that lives in a tower fitting the location and description. People attribute misfortunes especially regarding the water to them. Saying they cursed the water or some other mystical superstition.

What is everyone thinking? I was thinking just get a meal and ask for a room (hopefully we have cash) and be prepared to hit the town hall tomorrow early, trying to scope out what's going on prior to the afternoon's general open court.

I looked back and our last payment was 4gp for ten people for a meal in Mr. Alefast's tavern. So, Dennan still has plenty. He has at least 6 GP and a few gems worth 10 GP each. We should be good.
