Round 3 Player Phase!!!
OOC:
Calliope's down and bleeding out, but there are only two baddies left! Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the area is in complete darkness now, so the humans in the party are blind (disadvantage on their attacks, and attacks against them have advantage).

Please ignore the colored diamonds this time, I forgot to change the Dragonshield's. Both remaining enemies are just on the front line!

With the lights out dieter pauses and waits for the right moment. He can’t see so he relies on his other senses to tell him when to strike..now Dieter swipes his sword forward. Feeling no contact he instinctively moves his wrist in a tear drop pattern that would cause the tip of his sword to change direction from swinging left to right and bypass a shield hitting the opponents chest. Dieter is rewarded by a moment of resistance against his blade tip than the sensation of deep slicing.

Sheemish dwarf heritage lets him see even with the lights out. And he knows somethings wrong. Moving quickly to calliope he administers first aid quickly. It’s surprising what heated metal and metal adhesive can do in the right hands.

Stella focuses her fire on the remaining foe one with the shield. She grits her teeth to keep from trembling in the dark as Calliope falls and further injuries as dealt, then draws an arrow of radiant stardust arrow and fires it into the creature, narrowly hitting it above its shield.

(Dragonshield takes 15 radiant damage.)

Round 3 Summary

The two remaining kobolds fight to the bitter end. The dragonshield nearly drives his short blade home into Runeson's side, but once again Dieter's interposing shield spares the paladin (again Dieter's Protection fighting style turns a hit into a miss!). The move costs Dieter though, for as he deflects the dragonshield's blow, the other kobold springs up into the air to drive its dagger down deep into the top of the fighter's shield arm (Dieter takes 10 piercing damage). The wound hurts, but Dieter is tough enough to slay his evil aggressor and still remain standing.

Sheemish works with his healing materials to get Calliope back on her feet as the fight continues just mere feet away. Stella buys them some time and space with a shining arrow that hits the kobold hard. Somehow, the tough little critter manages to keep itself up, going practically berserk in its efforts to kill the party all on its own.

Struggling to get a clear shot at this last enemy, Imoen drops her bow and pulls out a pair of daggers, then sprints forward to attack at close range. Her first dagger misses, but she manages to stab the kobold in its scaled foot (dealing 3 damage), distracting it enough for Calliope - risen like an avenging angel with burnt and bloody wings - to unleash a torrent of wildfire that finally ends the dragonshield.

The fight took only moments, but as lights from the last spells die down, the party is left considerably winded and wounded. For all their size and obnoxious yipping, these kobolds fought with devious cunning and determination. No wonder any miners who might have heard or glimpsed the monsters thought they were devils.

It takes only a few minutes more for Draco (and Calliope's wildfire spirit, if she recalled it) to return to the group.

Investigation of the kobolds' corpses yields a moderate amount of treasure (party gains 60 gold pieces), some crude arms and equipment - none of it worth keeping - and a peculiar glass vial containing only a miniscule portion of a slimy green liquid.

Peering around the corner where the kobolds came from shows the 'Dead End 2' as marked on the map. The veins of ore showing from the walls here are streaked with the same green slime found in the glass vial the kobolds had on them.

Dieter pants "I-I can’t see, someone get a light" Dieter touches his arm and his hand comes back wet in the dark "I’m hurt pretty bad" he leans against the stone wall for support "form a parameter!" he waves his good hand in a circle over his head to reinforce his point.

I take a Healer's Kit from Stella, thanking her and use it on my wounds while keeping an eye out.
"Thank you Stella, you are a life saver. You did very well in this fight."

Upon using the healers kit, I take asmall rest with the rest of the group and heal to my max HP.

"Lavarandar's Lantern!" Stella says, a dim stream of stars escaping her lips.

Trying to ignore her own wounds, she looks around at the heavily injured group, opens her healer's kit full of herbs and salves, and begins her work, staunching wounds and bandaging injuries.
OOC:
Everyone but Dieter can regain 1d6+7 HP from Healer feat
Draco enters Stella's telepathic range. What did you find? It gives images of the kobold that tried to attack it. Thank you. Hmm...They could be following you. Head back that way, but don't enter the branches and keep out of reach. We need some time to rest, She asks the constellation.

She eyes the green slime with suspicion. "I bet on my lucky stars that's what's causing the crisis. And my unlucky stars...I wonder how it works...In any case, I think you all need some more time to recuperate."
OOC:
Short rest?

Taking a much-needed break after the battle in order to bind wounds and mend gear, the party rests more easily knowing that Draco (and Calliope's wildfire spirit?) is out there keeping an eye on things and misleading any kobolds it encounters.

After an hour of rest in the mine, everyone feels considerably better about continuing the dangerous investigation.
OOC:
Short Rest achieved! Also, everyone gets Inspiration!
Jan 27, 2023 7:16 pm
OOC:
Imoen's healed up to full! Thanks, Stella!
As the group gets ready to continue, Imoen holds up a handful of rune-inscribed arrows. "Do you think these are any good? They're not broken at least, and fletching's fine. Maybe we can give the next batch of mini lizard-dudes a taste of their own medicine!"

Near the end of their rest, Stelle feels Draco's presence dissipate, as the druidic magic animating it depletes.

She sighs. Bye, Draco. she looks towards Sheemish. I guess I'll stick with an owl next time. Or maybe a centaur. Ooh! Or a faerie!

Stella's eyes light up at seeing the arrows. "Ah! These will be quite useful! They look pretty rare, though, so only if we need them." She takes six of them and leave Imoen with one. "If we face any more of these things with fire arrows, definitely focus fire on them." She chuckles. "Heh. Fire." Then winces a bit at the pain still at her stomach.

"Well, shall we continue?"

Dieter gets up from the hard rock he was napping on "you know I feel a lot better"
OOC:
Dieter heals 20 pts using 3d10 to a total of 23/25.

Despite having seen a kobold scout through Draco's eyes, the party doesn't encounter any others as they investigate the mine's main level. And so after the better part of an hour they arrive at the so-called 'transition shaft', which seems to be a wooden elevator contraption. The platform itself is currently out of sight, presumably at the bottom of the shaft. Part of the contraption includes a wheel that can be turned to lift the platform, but it looks like it will need some well-applied strength to get it moving.
OOC:
Two can work the wheel at the same time. If you want to try to move it, go ahead and make a DC 15 Athletics check. If two people are doing it, only one creature makes the check, but does so with advantage.
There's also a large bloodstain on the ground at the shaft's edge, still slightly wet. This blood must have been spilt within the last day or two.
Jan 30, 2023 9:55 pm
Dieter makes his way to the wheel and motions for someone to help him

Between Dieter and Runeson the wheel turns easily, and soon the platform ascends to their level. There are two more half-dried bloody puddles staining its wooden deck.
Jan 31, 2023 5:22 am
Dieter puts his hands on his hips "You know…. I’ve been trying to ignore the blood stains but I guess I have to acknowledge them, everyone there are various puddles of blood at different stages of clotting and drying. Don’t slip and mind the gap onto the platform." he then half bows and extends an arm out to the platform
