He snorts hearing that "Hard pass, that thing would body me in minutes, and I don't want mine carcass hanging with those others"

"I really just question why, was this construct made for battlefield clean up?" Mordaky had a look of disgust, but also quizzical curiosity on his face.

Gzizmix and 37 recognize the construct as a cadaver collector. They were commonly used during the Last War by various armies and generals to gather bodies of fallen enemy soldiers for research and other foul rituals. Many were left unaccounted for to continue they duty endlessly.

Kleber is also knowledgeable in the collector’s purpose. He eyes the twenty-five foot tall mammoth with an healthy level of respect. You are aware that if left undisturbed to their task, they are not normally violent. However, they are among the most powerful constructs known and few have survived a direct encounter with one.

Gzizmix makes notes of it's locating in the journal to pass along to others so this thing can be deactivated at a later date.

37 taps a fingertip against his chin with a light ringing sound. "You know, thinking about it... can anyone see what condition those corpses are in? Have they been out here for two years and the collector is just now getting to them? Or are they recent kills?"
Mar 24, 2023 12:23 am
Core says to 37, "Nothing here rots. Those corpses are probably the same as the moment they died."
Mar 24, 2023 1:01 am
"I've heard that, but I don't know that I believe it," 37 replies thoughtfully. "There has to be a way to tell..."

Malbor mutters to himself at a level that only those closest to him could hear.

"Sometimes it is difficult to tell my waking moments from my nightmares."
Mar 24, 2023 7:35 am
Core slows the cart to a stop at the edge of the field of wreckage. The collector lumbers along sloth-like in its search for more bodies. It pays you no mind while it does so.

The black cloud is nearly over head now, only just slightly north of your location. You survey the rest of the scene in front of you. all around, there’s scattered remnants of hardware. You recognize broken fragments of ballistae and see several other bodies the collector hasn’t snatched up yet.

Earic peers out the window of the cart. He sneers at the construct. "Filthy contraptions. Only the darkest of generals are willing to use those things.", He makes some notes in his journal and surveys the debris field. Theres a note of excitement in his voice as he continues, "Those bodies are most definitely adorned in airship uniforms. We must be close! Do we dare step out to look around?". His hand is already on the latch to the door as he looks expectantly to the rest of those inside the cart.

Kleber mulls over the idea "Fine, but if that giant" he points at the collector walking nearby "even looks at us we must leave" the half-orc looks into Earic's eyes, making sure the man understands that fighting such a powerful construct is not an option
Mar 24, 2023 11:55 am
My concern is if that thing recognizes or even cares about the difference between a current and future corpse. Let's stay away from it

Earic Finnini
Earic nods in agreement with Kleber. "Yes, yes. That would be wise. We need to find proof this wreckage is of the Cyre."

He cautiously opens the cart door and makes his way out into the site. He starts picking through the various items he finds. It’s clear he’s keeping a very wide berth of the construct and ensuring what he’s doing is not disturbing it.
OOC:
For those that want to join the search, give me a perception check. For those looking for clues of the Cyre’s whereabouts, give me an investigation check.

Vice quietly says "Earic, what exactly should we be looking for?"

37 will climb out of the carriage and follow Earic, hoping the fact he is a fellow construct will help prevent the collector from being interested in them.

Core is quiet and doesn't leave the cart. He is prepared to move should the giant take any interest. He makes sure the cart isn't in its path.
Mar 24, 2023 6:27 pm
Malbor stays with the cart, standing up on the roof to be able to get the best view of the surrounding area that he can.

The presence of the macabre collector is a distraction to several of the group. The fear it may change its demeanour prevents a thorough search. However, Kleber has a keen interest in the site. Maybe it’s the call of gold from the possible salvage, but takes note of several items of interest. He takes note of the fact many of the items are in small impact craters as if they had fallen from a great height. Many of the items show signs of scorching or damage from an explosion. He recognizes the pock marked area is not a crash site, but rather where items from the craft must have been thrown from above.

He finds a ceremonial bell engraved with the name ’Cyre ir’Wynarn’. Earic is ecstatic with the discovery. "This confirms the soarwood trail we’ve been following is indeed from the Cyre", he’s giddy with excitement as he sketches it into his journal.

Kleber also finds a very large cylindrical iron tube buried half in the ground. Earic sets the bell carefully in the cart and return to look at Kleber’s discovery. Despite being heavily damaged from the fall, Earic is in awe of it. "That’s an elemental cannon! I didn’t believe they actually existed.", he begins circling around the object, inspecting it. "You see, you put an iron missile in there and once triggered, the elemental launches it through this tube. They’re even more accurate than a ballista and far more damaging. Would it be possible to extract it and bring it back with us?"

As Kleber continues to check on the construct, he makes note of one especially fine dressed body impaled on its back. Earic is too distracted by the cannon to take much notice at the moment.

"We got enough looks coming onto town with the cart. Cant imagine the attention we would draw hauling in an acient weapon of war." Vice says, looking at the cylinder
