As you grip the crystals, you feel a connection with the elemental at the Zarantyr’s core. This one feels very wild. More like bucking bronco, intelligent and stubborn.

The captain says, "The wheel is more like holding the reins. Use it guide the direction, but you give the command."

He turns off the anchor and you can feel the elemental tense up, awaiting your word. Sensing the tension, you take a moment to calm your nerves before asking the elemental to move ahead. As you do so, you can actually feel the power of the ring course through the vessel and the ships begin to move. You realize the immense mental strain it takes to control it as you guide it first to port, then starboard. You climb higher, all the while in a mental game of tug of war with this powerful entity.

You feel a strange clarity in all of it. The chaos of your mind seems to have prepared you for moments like these. The captain comments "He must like you. Rune would be jealous."

After only twenty minutes, you feel exhausted. The captain says, "Alright Malbor, that was excellent, but you need to take a break."

Vren invites you to stay and watch as he takes over. He runs you through his experiences and recommendations for the controls. You feel you can at least land the airship if you had to.

Could I get another round of perception checks?

Vice watches Malbor at the controls. When they are done he tries to limit his questions; "How was it? Was it difficult? Was it fun? If you become a captain, can I be part of your crew? Did it help take you mind off of . . things?"

Kleber is grateful that Malbor didn't make any mistakes when piloting the ship. If someone asked, it was only by chance that he was holding onto the ship, not because he doubted his comrade's skills.

Malbor admits to himself that he had always been a little jealous of those that guided and controlled the ships he had served on. To now be a person that could do such a thing he felt a pride swell inside him, but he did not let that show.

The third day of your travels begins with dull grey skies. The crew wakes up in better spirits thanks to Vice’s performances the past nights. It’s the talk of the ships, even Cyre compliments the energetic gnome.

The clouds provide decent cover, but the afternoon sun breaks up the clouds and Kleber now spots two vessels near the horizon. The Captain takes a moment to assess the situation. "They appear to be closing on us. We can’t hope to outrun them. We can only try to outsmart them. Should they catch us, we have two options: Stay tethered together and fight as one, very slow vessel, or untether the Cyre in a cloud as cover and use the Zarantyr as an escort. She’ll be a sitting duck, but she has the firepower. Also, slightly in her favour, they likely will want to capture her with as little damage as possible. We likely have four, maybe five hours if we can’t shake them."
OOC:
Roll initiative for a skill challenge. The goal is to evade the vessels. Failure means they catch up. On your turn, tell me how you help the captain, then pick and roll your skill. You’ll need 6 successes before 3 failures to escape.

Wow, sorry, lost this somehow. Feel free to get my attention if this happens
Gzizmix wonders before asking Cyre Would you benefit from a spell as you are a living being? It may only be a little bit as you are much larger but if you think it might help you move faster let me know and explains what his spell can do. He then casts it on the ship either way. (default to cats grace with 2nd option for bears endurance)

You’re unsure what that means though.

Malbor reaches across the intervening sky to touch the minds of the sailors on the other ship. From mind to mind, he searches for the tell-tale signs of a leader.. the consciousness concerned with guiding the ship. Once he locates it, he shifts their perceptions slightly so that their own ship appears in a slightly different location, causing the pursuers to go off course.

Or that is his plan.. but the distance proves to be too great, and the chatter of his own shipmates too loud.

Kleber ascends to the highest point of the ship, observing any shifts in movement from their pursuers and relaying it to the captain, hoping it can help the man steer the ship through a better path. Although looking down makes him feel lightheaded, and he doesn't know enough nautical or aerial terms to make detailed reports.

As the two ships continue to gain, Kleber sits atop the captain’s cabin. He is able to guide the captain through the clouds and into a valley. The ships giving chase are still there, but haven’t gained any ground.

I need five successes before one more fail. Vice is up, with 37 on deck
