Vice tries to use what he's learned so far to help the crew add what speed they can.

The energetic gnome runs to Faeris who is preparing the ballista aboard the Zarantyr. He asks how they can speed up the ship. Faeris notices the winds change and suggests pulling the ship up to ride the air current. As the ships enter this air you feel the lurch of the vessel. The air is turbulent, but you seem to be moving faster. The enemy vessels remain steady, but are unable to gain on you.

Gzizmix hears clicks and winding of gears below deck. Upon inspection, he realizes the spell has allowed the clockwork mechanisms that control Cyre’s aim are being checked. The turrets rotate quicker and begin to move more freely as the old grease works its way back into gears.

Edit: Three more successes before two fails

Weekly rerolls are still an option and reset tomorrow.

37 is up with Gzizmix on deck.

OOC:
Using weekly reroll, thanks for the reminder, and can I use arcana instead of strait wisdom? If not then reduce the roll by 1

Rolls

Arcana - (1d20+4)

(14) + 4 = 18

37 will attempt to judge wind and angles, and see if he can offer advice on how to make best use of any tailwinds and maneuver to keep the opposing ships at bay by leading them to fight against the winds, even going so far as to draw on whatever guidance he can.

Rolls

Nature (INT) + Guidance - (1d20+4+1d4)

(19) + (3) + 4 = 26

Captain Vren is impressed by the warforge’s advice. You easily sense changes in the atmosphere and the captain takes full advantage of this. Riding updrafts, dodging through clouds, you finally notice the ships falling into the distance just a bit.

Gzizmix will pay for divine protection and guidance before encouraging Cyre with whatever idea he feels inspired to share about to to make the elemental move the ship better

Arcana + Guidance - (1d20+4+1d4)

Sloane has been feverishly working on something in Cyre’s elemental matrix as Gzizmix checks in on her. The room is in chaos with docents rearranged and the elemental matrix now only connected to the port side. Sloane’s curly hair is wild with sweat. She wipes her brow and says, "Alright, this might be crazy, but it’s worth a shot.", she lays her hand on a lever, "Let’s hope whoever you’re praying to is on our side."

She pulls the lever and a flash of pale blue light flows from the crystal and out of the port side of Cyre. Rather than a ring, the elemental forms a half moon in the four spires on the port side. "HA HA!!" she exclaims and punches Gzizmix in the arm, "We’re not out of the woods yet."

She quickly explains that she’s disconnected Cyre from the ring, since she has no idea how to reintegrate the Colossus. "We’re gonna need a pilot."

One more success before two fails.

Malbor is up with Kleber on deck.
Aug 22, 2023 4:32 am
Malbor decides that with his initial plan to help having failed, he goes below decks to where the elemental resides.
He makes a plea to the elemental.

"I know we ask much, but as we have helped you, now I ask you to help us. If we don't evade the ship that is chasing us, it will catch and destroy us. Both our fates will be worse than that which you already experienced."

Malbor feels the lurch of the ship and makes his way to the wheelhouse, to see if he can help there.

Persuasion - (1d20+6)

Malbor hears a relaxed breath fill the matrix room and knows the elemental is in agreement. Those on deck see the elemental half moon intensify. As Malbor reaches wheel house, Faeris relays a message from the captain. "Do what you can to move the Cyre astern. Any speed you give will help. Remember not to overdo it."

Malbor sees the glowing yellow crystals of Cyre’s wheel and takes hold of them. Concentrating he gives the command to Cyre’s elemental, "Astern".

The Cyre’s bow begins to yaw to port as the cables tethering the two vessels slacken. Having all the thrust on port presents a challenge. However, the Zarantyr’s Light speeds up to re-engage the tethers and correct the yaw. Captain Vren takes advantage of the newly acquired speed to put distance between you and your pursuers until they drop off beyond the horizon. The Captain diverts his course to evade their spying eyes.

Malbor finds the concentration manageable as he has the elemental’s trust, but still becomes mentally exhausted after a couple hours. With the pursuers long vanished from view, the captain hides the ships in a low cloud to discuss the remaining day of travel.

"You certainly have talent Malbor. If you can keep that speed for even a few hours tomorrow, we should be able to reach New Cyre by midday. Get some rest. Let me know if you’re willing to try again in the morning."
OOC:
You have succeeded in your escape.

You have one day of travel till New Cyre.

Malbor, if you wish to help by controlling Cyre, I’ll need an animal handling check with a DC 10+2 for every hour you wish to pilot. Eg, if you choose to pilot for 3 hours, the DC will be 16 (10+6).

On a fail you take 1 level of exhaustion. On a fail of 5 or more, you take 2 levels of exhaustion. On a fail of 10 or more, you take 2 levels of exhaustion and 3d6 psychic damage.

Even on a fail, each hour you assist will take an hour off tomorrow’s travel.

I hope that makes sense. Let me know your decision. Feel free to discuss.

Animal Handling (DC 14) - (1d20+0)

(18) = 18

Out of necessity, Captain Vren keeps a brisk pace for the rest of the day and finds an out of the way forest to conceal the two ships. The next morning, he waits for daybreak to conceal the rings of the vessels and begins a dash toward New Cyre.

With Malbor’s aid, the captain is able to keep an even faster pace and soon you approach the Seawall Mountains. Just past midday, Camran, still showing signs of the stress from this hectic trip, calls out that he has spotted the two ships on the horizon once more. However, only a few minutes later, the city of New Cyre comes into view. Once under the protection of the city’s defences, the crew of the Zarantyr begin to relax and prepare to land.

The Zarantyr tows Cyre ir’Wynarn to the eastern side of the city and begins the process of settling her into an awaiting cradle. Sloane shuts down the half-noon elemental ring and a team of elves secure the massive warship into place. From the wheel atop the deck, Malbor has an incredible view over the small city. The area you’re in appears to be industrial with smiths, mills and armouries seen nearby. Surrounding the dry dock are ballistae and mangonels manned by city guards. It’s clear the secret is out.

A crowd begins to gather to watch with excitement.
OOC:
Btw, I needed two hours of Malbor’s help or they would have caught you again.
Aug 25, 2023 3:25 pm
Vice peers over the edge of the ship at the crowd, and weapons, below. "Guys, I think our fame may have preceded us."
Aug 25, 2023 4:07 pm
Gzizmix ponders the best means to ensure Cyre is not abused any further. The first step it to get into contact with the local temple to Aureon as he doubts there is much he can do on his own. Looking over the crowd he check for signs of allies or enemies. This has not been a simple adventure....
Aug 25, 2023 5:23 pm
37 stays with Cyre. "Much is happening, and you are unlike any other warforged. People are -- expectedly -- curious. I intend to stay with you, so you are not alone. At least until we have more information about what is next for all of us."
Aug 25, 2023 8:09 pm
Standing on the deck of Zaratyr's deck Kleber scans the scene. The crowd, the city guards armed with siege weapons and finnaly the Cyre itself.
"What a welcome, I had expected some fanfare, but seeing it firsthand makes it feel even more grand. Hope I don't regret this later"
Aug 26, 2023 3:04 am
Malbor says quietly to his new-found friends.

"We should stay together. We can not possibly know what dangers lie amongst so many."
Aug 26, 2023 3:06 am
Lady d’Cannith
A team sets up a gangway to an adjacent building. Shortly after, Lady Rayna d’Cannith arrives and boards Cyre, escorted by a group of heavily armed guards. A beaming smile on her face, she addresses Earic first, "Well done, Earic! When none of my guards returned, we feared the worst."

Earic Finnini
"Wait, NONE of the guards? There were three that were to return.", Earic looks around at your group and sighs.

"We have much to discuss. We should go to the general’s quarters for some privacy. We’ve set the bodies of Cyre’s fallen in the lower hold."

Lady d’Cannith nods and sends the soldiers to retrieve those below. Earic leads her to the General’s cabin. Here he breaks down everything that happened in the week you’ve been away. He hesitates as he comes to part of his vision, "She mustn’t be harmed, my Lady…", he says cautiously, while referring to Cyre as a person for the first time.
Aug 28, 2023 12:45 pm
Hearing about the guards' disappearance, Kleber's mind drifts back to the elf who had promised that one day he would retrieve the braces. The ranger wonder if a hired kidnapper would keep such oaths.

He follows the group to the cabin and stays put, leaning on the wall, as sitting on the dead captain's chair on the middle would feel strange. While Earic explains the current situation, Kleber examines Canith's face, pondering how the lady will handle the man's request.

Internally, he wishes to assist Cyre; the other options he can think of are too harsh to impose on what the half-orc can only see as a kid trapped in a warship as a body.
